If you don’t drive it commercially which means making money with it, then you’re not a commercial driver and don’t need a cdl, DOT regs don’t apply. I’m retired law enforcement and know the rules. I have a freightliner and use it to haul all my personal equipment. Hope this clears up the confusion I hear all the time.

it was not that hard to do, had to finish the drive line first so you know where you center line of the axle is the set the bed on and line up your center lines the I had to add about 18 inches to the front of the bed to extend it to the cab. hope that helps.?

How does the licensing work on something like that? Do you still need a CDL?

Depends on the weight of the truck, 26,001lbs its CDL territory. Air brakes used to require a CDL but they did away with that. If you leave all the trailer hookups, you'll probably get hassled anytime you pass DOT with non commercial plates.

Hello Hugh, It was a twin screw full size road tractor when I started and it already had the day cab kit on it and I removed the front drive axle and moved the rear axle front , had the title changed from TT to truck and the weight changed from 80K to 17K and licensed for 14k and no CDL needed to drive.

Dale, thanks for the response. Going to bother with another question, if you don't mind. What did you go with ram bed? Is this the best fit for the Pete frame vs the ford, Chevy, etc. Dually beds? Or just personal preference?

Barcin Saiyadian The Pete has a cummings motor, 400 big cam... if it had a cat it would have a ford bed. (dodge/cummings) (Cat/Ford). plus I like Dodge.. ha ha and when you build yours you can use what ever bed you want.... just saying..

The DOT will get you every time you drive this truck on the highway

As long as i does not exceed 26,000 lbs gvw or gcw and not towing more than 10,000# commercially, DoT could care less.

RVs are waved through, so unless this is towing clearly a commercial load it will get checked by DOT at weight station

I am seriously considering doing something like this. At one time this seemed crazy to me....... but now that pickups are 40k and up... and only get like 12MPG....... this makes sense. Im thinking I could put a setup like this together for around 10k. I have a CDL and I would just register it with a commercial plate.
