I’ve had one for a little bit now as well. I’m impressed with it. I got the black micarta. Nitro-V is supposed to be close to AEB-L in edge retention and toughness. I have a couple of handmade AEB-L blades that have really impressed me. People who say it’s like a stainless 52-100 are not wrong.

I was so pleased with mine. The geometry is excellent. Split a single piece of wood & the edge looks like a snake. Has massive deformity / warpage in the blade. Civivi customer service / warranty appears to be nonexistent. Hopefully, they will actually respond. Not holding my breath, though.

Nitro V is pretty well stainless. Curiously, I had 14C28N from Vosteed develop light rust spotting, too. That steel is even more stainless. I'm thinking either there's a problem with their treat, or something in their finishing process is causing it. I lean more toward the latter, because I haven't had performance issues. Could just be that there's some contamination with other metals after stonewashing, or the stonewashing itself is just exposing more surface area for oxidation. Mine wiped right off with barkeeps friend and hasn't been a real issue since.

Manly Patriot is a better choice. It's the knife I've used the most in my life, my hand always reach for that and I own Lionsteel M4, TRC M1 and a ton of other GREAT custom and semi-custom knives... This is a hunting style knife and probably made in China. Manly Patriot is made in Europe and is a better design for utility/general use and easily can be used for skining too.

@greekveteran27153 ай бұрын
@@SusanRoberts-m9y It has perfect heat treatment and perfect main and edge bevel geometries. Handle is also perfect for the general use it was meant for and it's sheath still holds up like new, after 7 years of everyday use. What on earth did that knife disapoint you about? Even the G10 handle is perfectly made and of high quality G10 with really good finish.Not to mention the price, which makes this knife literaly a "steal". Even most my custom knives, aren't made that good. It makes Lionsteel knives (in terms of heat treatment and bevel geometries) look like junk compared to it. PS I'm a Chemist Metallurgist who also sharpenes knives profesionaly for almost 30 years. I had way to many knives in my life, to know what a good knife is.
