That forest is absolutely gorgeous! And it is amazing what a little fill light can do. Bec had the racoon eyes going with no fill. Then the light came on and she was glowing!

Wow!! I didn't know there was a redwood forest in NZ! I love 85 and 135 for portraits. But, in the right hands with the right model they all look fantastic!! I always love how Bec transforms from the Bec that introduces the video to Bec the model. It's interesting how in a forest like this the shorter DOF gives a bit of a horror movie vibe making you wonder what's coming out of that forest in the background to get the girl. The forest in general gives a feel of vulnerability too. Thanks for showing the use of that continuous light. That could be super useful for a low budget amatuer photographer!! LOL! Love this, thanks for the teaching!!!

Peter : Thank you , I am learning that a photographer does not need the most expensive or newest gear every 6 months , skill and use of tools are far more critical , and I have the M 90mm ASPH lens 6 bit ; I also have the SL-3 , no have not purchased SL-3 / S , I like that light too , small and in that dimmed environment superbly effective , Beck's features are so cleanly outlined and her beauty comes out. Nice job Bec . 💪🏻

Many thanks for this new video. This is an amazing place, plenty of silent witnesses observing the scene attentively; the gigant trees are holding their breath, while listening Bec's words and guiadance. Perfect images for a music video scene: "The Fairy Queen Among Their Own Kind". @Bec: Many thanks for posing in this outdoor photo session. I cannot believe you when you say you prefer indoor photography. I think those trees are lifting you to the hihgest they can, which is a lot. @Peter: If you keep on making BW images, it will be difficult for me to transition to color photography, you are making it very difficult for me. BTW: many thanks for the lens comparison and for the lighting equipment demo.

I am also aware that it makes a big difference if the model is among trees where humus lies or on a footpath. In the latter case, we still get some reflection of the sand under the eyes, which makes the shadows less harsh. The humus does not reflect as much and has a warmer tone, while the sandy footpath is neutral and quite a lot brighter. Another difference worth mentioning is the light in a redwood (with conifer type trees) or temperate forest with maples, hickories, oaks. The latter will have more greenish light due to the leaves, which is less prominent in a redwood forest. Although this might seem unimportant for black and white photography, it will have an effect on the skin tone. And, yes, that can be corrected in post. Still, I prefer photographing in RAW with the monochrome setting in camera. It will give me much more control in post to tweak every tint, while still having an idea of how the final photo will look like.

Fantastic images. I imagine tall, uniform, straight trees make composition a little easier (than, say, shorter gnarly trees) but there's nevertheless a tricky game of balancing composition
