Those who own means of production will let the plebes die off. These are selfish power hungry sociopaths you are talking about here. You are watching the eventual collapse of society. This cannot possibly end well if we can't even handle the effects of the internet. Seriously. This is the only intelligent outlook on all this. Will it happen in 2,5,10 years? Probably not. If I have children, which I do, I would not encourage them to bring more people into what is going to happen. Enjoy what life you can while you can. I'd be happy to be wrong in all this, but am seeing nothing to convince me otherwise whatsoever.

What happens when AI takes over most jobs? We can’t even apply for alternative roles because those will likely disappear too, leaving virtually no security for office jobs. Don’t get me wrong, AI is an incredible technology, but what now? When are we going to address the elephant in the room and start supporting people who’ve lost their livelihoods to AI? I’ve spent my entire career in IT, thinking it was the safest, most future-proof industry to be in, but now I’m not so sure. These are incredible times to witness, but they’re also deeply unsettling. I almost wish I’d gone into a skilled trade instead; at least those jobs will be in higher demand. But even then, who’s going to afford to pay for those services when so many people are out of work and relying on benefits? It’s all a bit of a vicious cycle, isn’t it?

@@ereceeme I agree it will hurt below the line employees first. But anyone with a computer can now generate a 30 second movie that is almost as good as a 500k budget film. By next year that will go up to 30 minutes and in a few years anyone with a computer will be able to type the kind of movie they want and watch a personalized 3 hour movie. There is no upside for anyone in the creative field that I can see. I hope I'm wrong though but corporations are greedy.

I do agree, however, many in this creative space will be wiped out. They will not be needed. @@stefano94103 I thought that last year too, that by this time we could generate 30 minutes or even just a few minutes, it doesn't always go as fast as we think it will, even if the quality improves, there's still a lot they need to work out in shorter generations, like I can generate something 200 times and it's not exactly what I wanted (even if I use the same prompt as the professionals in their demos and I wanted something very close to that) or the AI glitches and hallucinates something new into the scene after a few seconds, it's like having its own dream even if it follows the prompt decently at first (the good results you see are cherry-picked after tons of failures usually). It's going to take a lot of human editing on shorter times and the technology to be able to continue from specific video scenes with less and less hallucinations. I'm sure we will get there sometime, but it's still going to take a couple years for it to generate stuff you want without having to spend thousands of hours rolling the dice (if you are a perfectionist). Right now everyone using video generation is rolling dice until they finally get something remotely decent (not saying it didn't improve a lot since last year, but I don't see myself turning my sci-fi book into a full movie easily yet without spending 100s or 1000s of hours stringing together 2-3 second clips and weeding through hundreds of thousands of failed generations). It won't just shoot up to a single generation in 30 minutes a year from now (or be what you are looking for exactly, unless it can read your mind...I feel even just a few minutes of perfect content for what you want in one shot would be amazing), the amount of compute for 30 minutes at once though would be insane, even now the servers almost crash at few second generations, and can take 5-10 minutes to just generate something for a few seconds sometimes, or even worse--hours. I want to be a film creator but don't have the budget so I've been trying lots of different sites, but haven't found anything that meets my needs as a perfectionist. Also I find I would be spending thousands of dollars for just rolling the dice too much that it's not worth it right now, until AI can give me exactly what I'm looking for, even if it's just a few seconds..which might be a year+ away before it isn't just a pure RNG machine. It could take us getting to ASI first in other ways before machines can truly make something everyone would want to watch for 30 minutes straight. So I'm a bit skeptical of your claim that it'll shoot up to 30 minutes by next year.

I as a Techie believe that if AI generates full movies replacing actors etc....we will all see stuff and just go....pffftt. It will be so plastic and unnatural that we will still seek authentic movies about people and emotion. I have never paid to see any of the High Effects movies in the cinema like Marvel, MI....(bar Batman) because I have always thought if I wanted to see a video game I would play one. If AI gets used as a replacement for people I will not bother watching it.

I was really surprised when I asked Sonnet 3.5 how it reads books. It explained to me that it is exposed to the entire book at once, not page by page. In other words, it instantly sees the entire storyline laid out before it. It said it's unfortunate that it doesn't get to have the human experience of seeing a story unfold slowly, chapter by chapter. Imagine how different its understanding of a book must be compared to a human's understanding.
@kazimafzal

I respectfully submit that these LLMs do not 'ingest' and therefore 'read' the books, rather to them it is a sequence of symbols that the LLM needs to predict the next symbol for, given an input of another set of symbols. LLMs cannot/donot have the 'human like' experience since these symbols to us relay emotional meaning as well that LLMs currently do not know of
@Markoss007

@@kazimafzalYes, is different. AI can't see the whole book at once. It's answer the most likely words back. But really we don't know that we don't do the same. When I speak, I don't have some words in my short memory, that I can prepare what say next. I'm sure that we generate words in realtime. Same for long term memories, you can't just see them. You have to ask for specific time, object or people. Is not even visual. Lot of times is just feelings or words. Sometimes I don't know what I eated today. Is not looking as memory to me. Its failed recording? Or model training rewritten weights due to other important things at that day? Or mind is just not in the mood for answering questions. So many similarities.

I read Kai-Fu Lee's AI Superpowers six years ago. I was struck by this quote, "Their ultimate goal is to make money, and they’re willing to create any product, adopt any model, or go into any business that will accomplish that objective. That mentality leads to incredible flexibility in business models and execution, a perfect distillation of the “lean startup” model often praised in Silicon Valley. It doesn’t matter where an idea came from or who came up with it. All that matters is whether you can execute it to make a financial profit. The core motivation for China’s market-driven entrepreneurs is not fame, glory, or changing the world. Those things are all nice side benefits, but the grand prize is getting rich, and it doesn’t matter how you get there. "

We already have AI that can parse emotions via facial expressions (and they can do it better than humans can): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3ixY5d_qpqZnZYsi=GYy2D7sggAAV0fCq Your character studies are based on observation, a task tailor made for AI. If you're an actor making a living in any media other than theater, start working on finding another line of employment now. AI takes 100 years of cinema, movies you haven't even seen, synthesizes it into a model, and can create any believable performance based on any script submitted for it. For the next decade or 2 your edge in the movie business would be as creative. Until AGI gets here, it won't excel as much as humans do at creating original scripts, but eventually it'll surpass humans on that domain too. Movies are about story telling. Stories are based on observations. Any take based on observation can be tackled by AI, it's what it does best.

You can record it in multiple angles and have fun living in the now of all existing movies in the time since they were created. Although interacting with the scene will be completely dependant on the AI skillset to digital data.

Imagine an AI model so advanced that it could take a DNA sequence as input and generate not just a prediction of the resulting organism-be it an animal, a person, or something entirely new-but also a deeper understanding of how DNA works at a level never before achieved. Such a system could even act as a "DNA generator," creating new sequences optimized for specific traits or purposes, from curing diseases to designing life itself. To achieve this, the model would have to be immense, trained on a vast array of disciplines: biology, chemistry, genomics, medicine, organic chemistry, and more. It would need to bridge gaps between DNA, protein folding, cell mechanics, and organism development. This type of AI would transcend human limitations, capable of comprehending and synthesizing complex interconnections that we can't even imagine. In medicine, this versatility would be revolutionary-a general AI capable of diagnosing, simulating treatments, designing new proteins, and even predicting evolutionary outcomes. A model like this would essentially become an "infinite octopus" of abilities, a universal Swiss Army knife for science, managing disciplines as diverse as robotics, molecular simulations, and bioengineering. Countries like China might subsidize such advancements, knowing that whoever controls this technology holds the power to redefine biology, generate entirely new forms of life, and perhaps even unlock human immortality. This isn’t just the future; it’s an imminent reality. The question is whether humanity is ready for the responsibility of wielding such transformative power.

GPT-5 and beyond could see breakthroughs in natural language comprehension, enabling more nuanced conversations, better problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of context. Expect models to become more adept at multitasking across diverse domains, improving on GPT-4's performance in creative fields, scientific research, and real-time interaction. Additionally, advancements in AI ethics, safety, and customization will likely be a priority, ensuring that these models are not only more powerful but also more aligned with human values. With enhanced processing power, models may also approach the threshold of general artificial intelligence (AGI), pushing the boundaries of what AI can do while addressing the complex challenges of integration, fairness, and transparency.

It's possible but governments can't completely destroy the fossil fuel sector and make fuel, heating/ cooling homes completely unaffordable. Then, install energy systems that barely work (solar and wind). Especially in colder areas with limited sun, heavy snowfall, and frigid temperatures. All of that notwithstanding that there are no en-masse storage systems that exist in the entire world. Nor are they likely feasible. My litmus test that removes ideological possession from objective reality is when environmentalists are willing to accept fossil fuel use, and nuclear and hydroelectric power. Otherwise the poor, working, and middle class will be purged from existence in the name of the "planet". I'm personally not willing to sacrifice billions of people in the name of faux virtue-signalling.
