I've really taken to this bloke, love that what you see is what you get. He's not trying to impress anyone, shoots his videos in his kitchen and he's got a lovely dry sense of humour, so you not quite sure if it's meant to be funny but it is. He's certainly a little off beat which makes his videos a pleasure to watch. Thanks for being real Peter.

The Muji rubber spot is intended for a sticker. Some Muji fountain pens come with dot stickers. I marked my Muji pen with a white dot sticker (not from Muji) that I colored in using the ink color I’m using. Easier to recognize especially if you have a few Muji fountain pens with different ink colors.

Peter I have three Lamy Safari fountain pens with broad nibs and I use Lamy ink. No problems with their writing or ink flow. Cost $55 Australian. Only problems were that two of the caps became loose after a few years and had to be replaced. The pen with a cartridge lasts about one week with a lot of writing and I use it when travelling-quick and easy to change ,no leaks and more compact than carrying a bottle. Lamy Safari are excellent pens. Bob Major Adelaide South Australia

TWSBI's name stands for the phrase "Hall of Three Cultures" or "San Wen Tong" in Chinese. The character "Wen" translates into language and culture. The phrase "San Wen Tong" also brings to mind the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the phrase "San Wen Tong" was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments". Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI. -from their website,

17:51 Hey Peter, I don't know if this is of interest to you, or indeed if it's the same material, but looking at your Waterman there, it looks like it might be made of vulcanite and suffering from oxidization. Pipe smokers get the same problem with their vulcanite stems, and they use Obsidian oil, which liberally applied and then buffed off a good time later, will bring everything back jet black and super shiny.

Waterman's 55! You LUCKY, LUCKY Dawg! There is nothing like the nib and feed union on a 1920's Waterman's. It is my favorite in my fountain pen stable, and even amongst my vintage pens. It's so good I compare every other new vintage acquisition to it, and found them all wanting. It's my everyday carry, everyday writer. I will never regret purchasing this pen. I have the Twsbi clear with clear cap. I think it's a good pen for the money and I like the clear and how people think the pen is the color of the ink. One day I'll have a red pen, then powder blue the next day. It has the med nib and the only issue I have is with the nib sliding out of the pen. I just noticed this 2 days ago, I just push it back in. The nib doesn't fall all the way out , just a little bit; it may be caused by the way I drag the pen when I write.
@PiersStudio

The waterman 55 is from 1920 and I’m wondering whether a pen made today will hold up after 100 years. I’m glad you like that pen and I think you should do more dra-wings with it. A slightly smaller waterman 52 pen is half, or a third the price of the larger 55. The nib, though smaller in size, still will write as well as the 55.

Peter Draws hey there Peter! I’m doing ok here in Boston. I think I’ll post a video of me showing the audience a selection of waterman pens with different nib sizes. The number on the nib refers only to the size of the pen not the type of line it can make or how it functions. Your 55 is a great size of pen. Sorta fat, but not too fat. There were two sizes bigger and 3 sizes smaller. Sort of. It gets complicated. I think you and your audience might like seeing me try to explain the system they used! Stay tuned!

Hello Peter - Platinum Carbon ink is pigment-based (as the name suggests) not dye-based though the pigment particles are finer than regular India ink. If you've been using it in the Lamy pens, they might have clogged for this reason. It is recommended that fountain pens with platinum carbon ink are flushed out properly every couple of weeks or so. Most fountain pen inks are dye-based for this reason. Really enjoyed the review, thanks

Thanks for sharing your smarts once more, and now I’m looking for something equally entertaining on top inks, specifically purple and turquoise blues. Not likely that’s as popular a thing, but you’ve got to have a dream! I’m already looking at an endlessly glowing lap from Noodlers bulletproof ghost ink USPS delivered which gooshed from a badly damaged cap and thinking this brand seems solid and lasting so far. Holds up to knit t-shirt fabric well. I also purchased a bottle of carbon ink for doodling around and watercolor works, but I really want a rich beautiful royal purple and a Caribbean blue that would make your eyes blush with envy.

Looking at the Muji pen -- it might be that the rubber stopper in the lid is there for the nib to press against, to ensure it doesn't scratch against an aluminum surface instead. As for showing the rubber on the outside of the lid, maybe just an aesthetic choice, and then they replicated it on the bottom just for symmetry's sake.

I hate the kaweco sport. I had one in high school, got another later on, and then realized what I hated about it when I found the better version - the chinese delike alpha. That pen is exactly the same as the kaweco sport (but comes in brass, aluminum and acrylic for about $10-15) but is about 1cm longer, which lets it use a normal converter and lets it be used unposted. I've used one of those for years now as a paramedic, and I've even used it as a makeshift glass breaker with a rock (the brass model) and it still writes and opens just fine. For me, my top 5 lower priced pens are the faber castell loom ($35-40) the muji aluminum pen ($15) the delike alpha ($10-15) the wing sung 698 ($15) and the FPR himalaya ($20-40) If you've got $50-100, a platinum 3776 century, an osprey milano in ebonite, a pilot custom 74/91, a pelikan m205, or an 18k parker sonnet (routinely come around for $85-100) And if you've got $100-150, a lamy 2000, cross townsend, vintage pelikan 400 or 140 (these will have flexible 14k nibs,) a pilot custom 742 or pilot falcon, or some other nice vintage pen like a parker vacumatic or parker 51.

Be nice if you posted the names of the pens up as you talked about them so we could know which is which just a bit better. But, just a suggestion. Love your channel and I have a few of your recommendations on order!

From another fountain pen freak. Highlight of this video for me was when you were going over the vintage Waterman with the flex nib, noting that vintage pens were for the real fountain pen enthusiast..."you'll know when you get there." I peed myself I thought that was so funny and so right on.

When I first became interested in fountain pens, it took me years to realize I was using the wrong ink and caused my pens to dry and not write consistently. This led me to forget about them until I just got a twsbi eco and got the right type of ink. Now I'm hooked on them.

Peter! I think the rubber bits on the MUJI pen is for if they run dry - you can write on them to get the pen flowing again! At least for regular pens that are slightly dry can be reinstated by drawing on rubber surfaces, something something friction.

I also made the mistake of using india ink in my Safari and it got gummed up for a long time and I was frustrated. Got some really great ink and flushed the pen out really good, and now it's my favorite pen. So smooth. Kaweco Sport and Eco are in my want list, hopefully I'll get to try soon

With your incredible artistic talent, you may want to revisit Lamy again. The swappable nib feature means that you can have several pens inked up with different nibs, or just swap them out on an existing pen. I have been really impressed with the 1.5 mm, and the 1.1 mm on the Lamy Studio, LX, Al Star & the basic Safari. I don’t think that there is a better value/price comparison in the market. Like you, I have all sorts of pens, from a few dollars to hundreds. That said, the two nibs I mentioned are incredibly satisfying to work with. And for $12.00-$15.00 for these nibs, you can’t lose! The key is to experiment until you get the nib on a good working feed, and use the most free flowing ink that you can find. Love your videos! I find writing very therapeutic (wish I could draw!); so I rewrite my favorite quotations (among other things) in journals.

@Peter Draws the rubbery thing on the cap and the bottom of the Muji Pen are probably there to reduce vakuum when closing/posting the cap. Otherwise you would barely get it of the pen i think :) btw love your Vids, even tho i´m not using fountain pens or draw in any kind, just some relaxing content. keep it up!

I had a Waterman in high school. I'd come across several vintage, yet still in great shape lever fill pens in the barn, and I think that the Waterman was my favourite. Sadly, that was almost 40 years ago (I graduated in 1985), and they were lost during several moves.

Your channel reminds me of the taste of perfectly popped popcorn.... Left in the microwave a little longer. Just enough so that it's a little smokey but not burnt. And then eating the whole bag by yourself. I know very specific, but I'm currently enjoying that experience and I feel great.😂

TWSBI has a cool filling system using a unique ink pot. The ink pot has a metal cap and underneath that is docking tube to siphon up the ink when you dock their pen to the tube.

With soamy comments not sure you'll see this, but it's worth a shot. Is there any way you remember which template you used for your square space site? The choices are overwhelming so I just gave up. Thus after months....I still don't have a site yet. I love your work and style. Just discovered you recently and I'm so stoked that you exist in the world. One of your "draw with me videos (if you want)" saved me from mental melt down last night, and I'm truly grateful. You're helping get me back on the paper with a pen in hand. Hope you have a great day, --stephanie.

I've got a Kaweco Sport, Pilot Metropolitan, Lamy Safari, the Muji, and a couple of Jinhao's. I think I might get the TSBI Eco next. That's about the limit of what I'm willing to spend on a pen. I'm not sure what my favorite is right now. Probably a split between the Muji, Safari, and Sport. One of my Jinhao's works okay and the other one is a piece of garbage. It's a shame too because it looks pretty nice but I can't figure out how to get it to work consistently.
