Pete, as a British expat long transplanted to Florida, I can tell you that a PBJ is quite satisfying. I know we don’t eat much peanut butter in the UK, but its quite nutritious. And yes, jelly is more common in the US than jam and has a slightly different texture. You gotta have a PBJ with a glass of milk, its a rule.
