Board 7: "What is he thinking? Every trick is his. Oh no, oh my god, he is doing it." You are awesome :)

Had same contracts everywhere except the last board where I was in 3NT making, and same results except making the overtrick on board 4. Appeared mostly to be a set of hands that played themselves

#8 I got cold feet and didn't want to force to game opposite a scattered 12-count (which turned out to be prescient) so I bid 1NT. East backed in with 2C which seemed very odd to me so I doubled, hoping that my CHO would do something intelligent. CHO passed and I had to defend against what turned out to be a 4-4 club fit that was cold for 8 tricks. I picked what felt like an obvious heart lead which gave up another trick for a smooth -280.

B5 - I ended up in a disastrous 3NT-2 contract because I bid the 5-5 hearts and spades the wrong way (should have bid the spades first). Lesson learned! Despite that, I ended up in 4th place behind a 3 way tie for first. A rare achievement for me.

did _exactly_ the same thing Jeff, although I always expected pd to pass even with only 3 clubs as my double apparently shows 3. Best-hand tournament, I expected to pick up 100/300 when lots of N/S going down. East's 2!C overcall is just crazy and didn't at all deserve the dummy it got.

board 4, why not lead 10S from table so you can repeat the finesse if it works? I did this and W covered with A dropping the singleton Q but don't know if it was the right play.

Leading the ten is fine but it shouldn't ever win the trick so you can repeat. If west had AQx a lot of times they will fly with the ace (not always) if they have AQxx they will probably fly ace and the 2nd time you probably want to lead the ten to repeat the finesse. In general when I expect to lose the first trick no matter what I don't often lead a card to retain the lead. Basically I didn't really consider it but the ten is completely fine. I don't think it should make west pop ace from Axx though.

thank you for your reply, that is really helpful. I love your videos and have been watching every week for years. Thank you.

Interesting, I led the 10 and West did not cover. I wonder what was different about our auctions or the first trick to cause the bot to behave differently.

On board 3, what if the KD is in east and you play Q diamond to the ace then ace of clubs queen of clubs, do you not lose a club, 2 diamonds and a heart, making it worse than anyone playing A Q clubs?
@endthisnonsense72022 жыл бұрын
I like your diamond Q on board 3. I finessed the J for the same result but you play sure is elegant and leaves the clubs option open indeed, I'm sure it will work for 10 tricks more often than just finessing the J, but you might end up with 400 too which will be poor. Board 7: I was sloppy, saw the NT opening and I've got no clue why, but opened 1 Diamond. That lead to 4 Spades in the other hand, for a 100% that was even better than 3NT+1 as East lead Heart Q and switched to a low club. After 2 trumps and east having to follow on the next 2 clubs and 4 diamonds I could discard all remaining hearts from dummy. Never had 100% following such an aberration before LOL. On all other boards I did same as you, it was a kind of boring straightforward set indeed.

Same contact and same result on every board. I've probably been watching too much of you :). I think on the last board I should've considered 3NT more.
