Why Is No One Else Making An Electric Motorcycle as Good as this Surron Ultra Bee?

The Surron Ultra Bee isn't a perfect electric motorcycle, but it is better than what a lot of mainstream bike manufacturers are putting out these days. Does it hold the key to a successful blueprint for electric motorcycles?

Have you seen the upcoming Dust Moto Hightail? It's roughly the size of an Ultra Bee but comes from the factory with all the premium parts that people spends tons of money to upgrade their Ultras with. 32kW/42hp, 4.4kWh battery, 21"-18"/19" wheels, quality suspension, etc. Price is not cheap at $10,950 MSRP**, but to upgrade an Ultra Bee to the same specs and performance, you'd easily exceed that price by thousands of dollars. Even though dollar-for-dollar, electric is more expensive than a gas dirt bike, I think the time and money saved in maintenance (or lack thereof) is super valuable. No oil changes, no air filter cleaning/replacements, no top-end rebuilds, etc... ** edit: just wanted to mention the bike will be Made in the USA

I think dust moto too expensive for smaller bike. Not many kids can afford the stiff price. Nice it's made in USA but there are a lot more options for thousands less for a mid size bike. I think the altis is priced right for what u get. 5k difference between dust moto and altis is a lot. U can get 2 altis for price of dust moto.

@@derald614 Altis and Dust Moto are in different categories. Altis is more Surron Light Bee-sized, whereas the Dust Moto is closer to a full size dirt bike (longer 55.1" wheelbase, taller 35.4" seat), and is anything but a kid's bike. Dust Moto has premium components from the factory, like Sirris Suspension with more travel: 260mm front, 285 rear. Altis is a good value for what it is... but again, they are not the same class of bike. The Dust Moto is more for people who want a super capable dirt bike for either trails or motocross, but don't want the full heft of a Stark Varg.

I'm a decent fan of these. Hopefully the market becomes a bit easier to access but these small lightweight E-Bikes which the road legal gear is a great alternative than some of these which try to be Motorbikes instead. In Australia where I'm at one of these road legal with plates, lights etc would be perfect for a daily use where you can safely take it inside and charge at home or at work. I'd got for one if they can be a bit cheaper and honestly with road tires on 17" wheels and better brakes.

You don't. Or you don't go far, or you get a campsite that has electricity. It's not meant to replace an adventure bike, but it does capably replace a trail bike.

And your intro you act as if this is the only bike around that's electric that can compete with a full size dirt bike. Have you not heard of the Stark Varg? It competes with every gas bike in every class. The only compromise is range.

Electric bikes sound like a good idea. Can they charge using EV charge points? More conflict for the motorist though. 'Granny' chargers are too slow.

I think some of the smaller surrons u can buy street legal. The ultra bee is supposed to be a dirt bike. I think u can buy a kit to make it street legal I'm not sure though

It's all relative my friend. You may be right if someone is looking for a full sized bike. If range is your goal the Stark quickly loses ground.

@@JustinBleeder wrong my buddies and I just clocked 4 hours on both our bikes this weekend both ending at around 27% left starting at 100%. Using the 80hp here and there too just to mess around but mostly between 40-60hp throughout the entire ride. we could probably push them to 5-6 hours if we keep it at one hp range like 45 hp the whole time. Stark is superior.

Price aside, this bike could be just as good depending on how you use it. I'm not here to make the case that electric is better. I'm saying that this bike is a lot closer to an XT250 than several other electric bikes are to (especially) road going bikes. This bike also has some things that are better than an XT or XR such as adjustable suspension, and a number of electronic modes that make the bike easier to ride in complicated conditions. I'm not saying that's what people want, but this bike is interesting within the segment, where other manufacturers can't even reach that level with their electric motorcycles.

It's perfect for most people doing single track especially in areas with a lot congestion where you will annoy people with a gas bike. It's not great for everything, but for a lot of people it's amazing compared to a gas bike.

Any deviation of brake and clutch lever position from DOT standards is gonna get someone killed ! Motorcycle riding is very unforgiving of "oops, I forgot" !
