@ 40, a new 2008 KTM 990 was my first "dirt bike" and I spent then next 15 years riding it in every place imaginable. From single track to tarmac, the bike constantly demonstrated why so many people around the world love them, and why you are spot on regarding how easy they are to ride. Mine saved my a$$ more times than I can remember. I'm still on it, but the 1290 is on the radar. However, I'm old school and there are just too many computers for my liking.....and those pesky camshafts.
@C_R_O_M________3 ай бұрын
The 1290 has no camshaft problems and it's been around for quite a long time. Having said that I'm on my second 2009 990 and no I don't need the electronics. ABS is all I ever needed on road and nothing else off it.

Greetings from Romania, Timisoara. My favorite model (and 1290 SAS), I watched a lot of reviews on KZbin. Like the first bike, it scares me a bit. Now I get my license, for category A, in a month and then I want to go to a KTM dealership to test or just sit on it. Anyway she's impressed in reality, I passed by the dealership and it was on display in the window. Although I'm not exactly a beginner, I have experience behind ATVs, Can-Am Riker and Spyder, it would still be my first motorcycle. That said, I think I'm biting off more than I can swallow with it. Anyway, I still love her. Only for touring would I be interested, I've done off-road with ATVs and I'm not passionate about it. Thank you for the review.

Go for a light, low-powered bike first. Get a dirt bike like a DRZ400 and learn how to ride. ATVs and bikes have very little in common. Practice, practice and then practice some more on the basics. Don't get this bike as a beginner.

You are beginner. Ryker have more common with cars and ATVs then motorcycles.

How do you find getting your feet on the ground with this bike versus a T7? I'm considering upgrading from my T7.

Ooh. Good question. I'm not sure off the top of my head. I feel like this one is a little wider in the seat, but I honestly don't remember off the top of my head. This one IS more comfortable for me.

Nice. Did you test the bike in slow city riding and weather there is a lot of radiator or engine heat?

The 790 felt much hotter to me than the 1290.

The non LED turnsignals on motorcycles in USA/Canada must also be some local regulatory or marketing thing? They all have LED stock turnsignals in Europe. Anyone know the story behind this?
@PeterLoweOne5 ай бұрын
Kawasaki does the same thing with some of its larger displacement bikes while their lower displacement bikes have LED signals. I haven't figured out why Kawasaki does that as the big bikes are also LED in Europe. Strange, for sure.
@anderslund35485 ай бұрын
@@PeterLoweOne Strange. Gut feeling - It must be something regulatory in USA. No other reasons to keep dual spareparts or designs etc. Found this rather old quote doing a powergoogling: "the LED OEM euro lights don't comply in one form or another to US regs. It was explained that it had more to to do with shape then the filament/bulb"

Incandescent lightbulbs available at any petroleum station, worldwide. I think it’s just for that reason, considering where that bike can take you, there might be no means of civilization.

I like the fact that KTM provides storage on the bike specifically for the keyless FOB....much better than forcing me to pack it somewhere else on the bike.
@luz60283 ай бұрын
It's not storage for key fob. It's for phone. If you forgot about key phone someone can steal your bike and you will not get money from insurance. You should have key fob always with you, not in motorbike storage.

I own a 2023. The stock seat is too low for a 6 foot rider and also cramped at the knees. The power parts rally seat is much better and taller , but still not a great seat for comfort. Why do they slope the seat to the tank? The Stock wheels are made of cheesium. The softest rims I have ever seen on an adventure bike. You will dent them riding gravel and rocks. The stock skid plate may as well be made from plastic saran wrap. So flimsy they may as well not ship it with the bike. It's pathetic. But aside from these few short comings it's a great bike and it is incredibly easy to ride for a bike with 160 horse power. . The motor is very smooth and passing cars is a joke with this kind of power on tap.

@@betapeterr8657 you are both right. I believe the American continent gets to be behind one year in terms of model year. So they get the 2023 model as 2024 whereas we get the actual 2024 one which has indeed different graphics (and perhaps some slight upgrades).
