I see other comments along these lines but it bears repeating: you are FANTASTIC at explaining things. Other youtubers will lazily pull up one of their replays and just point out how godlike they are without actually ever offering solid and concrete advice or zooming out and explaining big-picture context. You do all those things and I massively appreciate you for it.

Idk if you mentioned this, but you can also use offensive sidestep to realign with an opponent who is trying to apply defensive stepping. I think characters like Lili rely heavily on things like this at range 0. I guess that segues into sidestep-block and sidestep-duck, and a discussion about how trying to realign factors into the "timing" aspect of the game. Btw, thanks for making stuff like this! Went through all your guides.

This is a great tutorial, but I think you should stress the fact that sidesteps must be buffered up close. For example I never understood why I couldn't step jabs even after watching countless tutorials but then yesterday, while testing it thoroughly in practice mode, I finally figured out the reason why it never worked. I tried to time my sidestep with the end of the block stun, when I should have done it during the block stun. I think there might be many people like me that were not aware of this!
@PeterYMao3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct, you gotta buffer the sidestep. However, I expect people to go into practice mode and test this out and at least figure out some of the stuff themselves. I try to give people the information they need, the other aspect of it is learning on their own. None the less thank you for your input :) and thanks for watching ^_^

Great video! I'll try to mess around with movement more next time playing. But I have a very specific question. I play armor king, and on my plus frames people are very often mash some low hitbox mids or lows. So can you recomend me some mid for this? Df1 doesn't feel like adequate punish for the read, and hopekicks are scary to just throw out.
@PeterYMao3 жыл бұрын
If players are mashing dickjabs or low, definitely hopkick. Call the opponent out for their tendencies. Another thing is d/f+1 is used to check ducking opponents and gives you crazy frames which allows you to keep doing d/f+1 if the opponent keeps mashing.

@jfry32762 жыл бұрын
I’ve played Tekken for a long time and I always had issues side stepping. I only play online and from a country with almost no fan base. 99% of the matches are from other countries and have 3-4 connection quality. So, considering the lag/delay I probably have, it can be so frustrating… This guide have sharpened some stuff but I already know this and still can’t sidestep properly. I just can’t figure out the right timing. Is it like a parry (super tight frame execution. Almost predictive) or something I can/should do after seeing the move?
@PeterYMao2 жыл бұрын
You can buffer a sidestep after your attacks and your opponent's attacks on block. There isn't a huge window to buffer but a slight window. The main thing about sidestepping is that it's used as a defensive or offensive option against a very specific set of options your opponent might do. If you don't know what your opponent might do, then I wouldn't suggest sidestepping until you do know.

As a new player (3 days into the game), I tried practicing this like I did with blocking a throw and I have to say I get hurt a lot more when sidestepping than standing still because they keep hitting me anyway. Is this an issue of knowing "what" to sidestep "when"? Like, how much you know about opponents or how well you can predict their move? I'm not sure why it's so diffuclt, because the way it's explained it looks brilliant!
