i'm so glad cab emulators and direct to PA system solutions are getting trendy. I'm at that stage of life where silent practicing and silent monitoring in live situations are key. I LOVE amps, but holy crap they only sound good when they're loud, or even when you still make a little bit of noise, they don't sounds as nice (and why would you pay $5000 for an amp you barely crank) and people still complain about the noise

I've said it before in another video but that SL68 is special amongst amps trying to produce the same sound. That is the best stock British-style tone I've heard from a modern-made amp.

I'm a big fan of the Ownhammer IRs (which I bought on your recommendation, Pete), and I am really surprised how great that thing sounds. I used to use H&K Redbox DIs back in the early 90's and they just never got that bite and bark you get from a mic'd cab. They always sounded dull (I know the newer Redbox tech they're selling these days sounds a lot better). But that Suhr ACE thing really nailed it. Great vid, Pete.

As always, awesome job! To me the point of buying a product like this would be eliminating the need for a cab. But being that I'd still need to use some other gear to unload the amp before using the ACE it's still too expensive (at least for my pockets). The reactive load is € 555 on thomann, and the ACE would be something more than € 300 I think. Of course we're talking about Suhr products, so no compromises on quality or sound. Still I would be more interested in a single piece of gear that could do both. Maybe sometime in a not so far future. Cheers

Do you need the Suhr reactive load box to make it silent recording from a tube amp? Or will the ACE work silently through a tube amp with no speaker hooked up? thank you

I use the poor man's version of this rig, amp into a Weber Mini Mass attenuator into a Behringer Ultra G DI. It does the job, especially if you've got a sound guy who can massage the EQ a bit.

i own a couple custom Suhr guitars and a killer Hedgehog amp. i know the ACE is great, but I didn't want to spend $300 to get DI into the PA. i picked up a H&K RedBox5, mounted it in the back of my 212 cab and installed an XLR-M panel jack. now i can just show up at the gig and snap an XLR cable right into the back of my cab instead of having to mic the front. the phantom power even powers the RB5. it doesn't sound quite as good as the ACE, but i have a QSC TouchMix 16 with very powerful parametric EQ and it's good enough for my modest needs. cheers

Wondering how this sounds when A/B'ed against a Greenback cab IR in the Torpedo CAB. Wondering if the analog signal path makes a noticeable improvement. While I love using my CAB with my Suhr RL I sometimes fear that it does sound "digital" compared to mic'ing a real cabinet. I'm certain some of the difference I hear is the difference between my room and cabinet vs the ones used to make the IR, but the CAB does sound a tad "digital" to me.

Pete, I have a little 1×12 combo amp (Boss Katana) that has a line out option. I image the line out signal will have a low enough output to where I could skip running it into a load box. To draw a picture of what I'm thinking, I should just be able to plug my guitar into the amp, run the amp signal from the line out, into the ACE, and then into my DAW without any problems, right? I'm looking for a way to record in my dorm quietly without the use of plugins that ultimately bog my computer down. Thanks in advance for any advice/answers you may have! Always love the demos

Hey Pete, Dean from Canada. Great demo video! I am wondering if this product will meet my needs and I would appreciate your input. I made a new small board for pick up and go jamming. I have guitar going to suhr eclipse, then Suhr RIot, then to a strymon Ola chorus, then to Strymon Elcapistan delay and then to my seymour duncan power stage power 170 solid state power amp with a 1x12 mesa widebody open back cab. Everything sounds great but when suhr pedals are off and I just want clean I would like to add some presence to the clean sound to brighten things up as well and I would also like to go direct to the PA if required. I am thinking this unit will do all that. Am I correct or do you have other suggestions? If i the ACE doesn't do what I think it would do,the main thing is to sparkle my cleans up with my les paul classic custom and SG. If I have to mic cab no big deal but it would be great to get the best of both worlds.

Pete, how does this sound with a Suhr SL68 with all on 10? Can you get that sizzle that the classic EVH tone gets with greenbacks? I hear your original SL68 clips and I am curious if this Cab Emulator can compare to that quality? Sounds good from the clip though man. You did a great job!

Hi Pete! Need your advise. Have some great pedals a nice strat and a basic Marshall MG15CF combo. Can not use it, so I purchased an AKG-K240 MKII semi open headphone. Although the Marshall has an emulated output the sound I hear through the headphone with Proco RAT and other dist is terrible. I came to a realization that I might need a CAB which could sound great using only headphone and plug in all my pedals, too. I narrowed it down to Two Notes Torpedo Cab. Is there another (maybe this Suhr) device you could recommend instead? BIG Thanks!!!!!!

I'm new to the reactive load approach - I understand the concept but had a question: if you're in the studio and want to track both a mic'ed cabinet AND reactive load>ACE, can you do that from the same amp? So for instance, if I have two 8 Ohm outputs on a head, one could drive the load>ACE and the other the cab...? It would be terrific to track both and blend to taste during final mix.
@johnmsuhr
@johnmsuhr 8 жыл бұрын
If you want to do both you can use our ISO line out. If you want to do it in silence use the Reactive Load as the load and that line out can feed the ACE If you use the Reactive load AND a cab you can do that too and it will lower volume by 3dB since it is behaving like an 8 ohm speaker

Hey Pete! Another great demo, tanks and congrats man! I need to ask, did you tried the ACE with pedals too? I think it's a great option to the GCS-2/3 (ADA) and the Iconoclast (Neunaber), but I don't know if it's really the same thing. Thank you again, cheers from Brazil!

When using the ACE cab simulator, what does the reactive load do? When would you need the reactive load? Thanks!
@davidsunhun
@davidsunhun 7 жыл бұрын
To my understanding, you need the reactive load to "dumb down" the power to a line signal, so you can connect it to your PC if you wish. The cab sim comes in between the two, so it doesn't sound sh*t.

Pete, is there a small piece of hardware to simply load an Impulse Response? I mean, it's a very simple process that an economic chip would easly handle, it would be great live and in home studios (latency stuff). All I see is very expensive hardware with tons of extra features that I don't really need, like the Torpedo.

11f This. NB only accepts line level (preamp) input. This is a proper spk sim that taps off the speaker output thus capturing the power amp sound/OD and and capturing the reactance between the speaker and amp, which is a big part of hearing the sound "breathe".
