What is the name of the software used to show the current measurements on the PC?

Hi Gabriel, here is the first video for this lab: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4PYmaaInaiGZqM The software is from the manufacturer of the Tough Sonic LVL-100 Ultrasonic Level Sensor: senix.com/chemical-liquid-level-sensors/toughsonic-chem-10/

Dear Proff. Thank you so much for your detailed and comprehensive explanation! Yet, I kindly have this question please, which has need running in my mind since ever! If we measure the current value on the other wire going out from the Analog module, Will we get 4 to 20 mA or not ? I do highly appreciate your answer

Hlo, why u didn't connect the + mA to Fluke's 400 mA terminal directly..Why you short it with other lead wire?
@PeteVree6 жыл бұрын
That jumper has a 250 ohm resistor that I use to demonstrate to the students how to change a 4 to 20 mA signal to a 1-5 Volt DC signal
@nvignesh598 жыл бұрын
Why the resistor needs to be connected? Sorry for the dumb question.
@PeteVree8 жыл бұрын
HI Vignesh, Thanks for the question. The resistor wasn't necessarily needed for this portion of the lab. However, in a later part of the lab, the resistor provides the specific load so that the 4 to 20 mA DC current can flow through the 250 ohm resistor and create a proportional voltage drop of 1 - 5 V DC, otherwise we have no means to change the current signal into a voltage signal.

Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate

@@PeteVree i don't get this part. Isn't the whole point of the video to measure 4-20mA current in the circuit? Connecting the multimeter in series would achieve this easily, considering the multimeter can precisely measure mA range. What has voltage amd resistor got to do now with attempted measurement of feedback from the sensor which is in mA?
@trade17132 жыл бұрын
@Sgt Brown sensor should regulate how much current flows through the circuit. Short is huge amount of current in short time. But sensor that measures a quantity of something should regulate mA.

Your fine teaching skills don't go without appreciation. FYI I have a mild learning disability and your high calibre presentations are going to help me pass my construction electrician IP Red Seal exam. ( Hopefully). I've passed the Alberta provincial journeyman exam recently, but the red seal will be icing on the cake. Thanks for all of the informative links on your website as well. Nice NASA t-shirt by the way Pete.

Good luck! Here in Ontario we just write once and if you get above 70% you get your Red Seal.

why is it that everytime i try to do troubleshoot sensors on site i get like 0.08ma reading but 90%RH (0%-100%) on a 4-20mA input

Is it possible to measure 4-20ma in parallel in ultrasonic transmitter
@PeteVree3 жыл бұрын
The measurement I have shown is in Series. Have a look at the video at the following link to see how you can use a Fluke 773 Multimeter to take a non-invasive measurement of the 4-20 mA current: www.fluke.com/en-ca/learn/blog/electrical/how-to-measure-a-4-20ma-loop-signal

If you add a resistor wouldn't that change the amps that you read at your meter?
@PeteVree7 жыл бұрын
The transmitter accounts for the increased resistance by increasing the applied voltage to the circuit to maintain a constant current that reflects the process value.

So is it possible to measure any 4-20 mAanalog output signal (such as positioner, transmitter) ?

Yes. Often an Instrumentation Tech. will be carrying a multimeter similar to this one: www.fluke.com/en-ca/product/calibration-tools/ma-loop-calibrators/fluke-789
