Ye are right on that on that one. Hurdy-Gurdy really was "Rock'n'Roll" of 1500's, 1600's and 1700's. In some version was convertable coverhatch, so you could open it and vibrate the strings with your fingers, clap the hatch, or play pizzigato as well (plucking the strings, without rolling the wheel. If ye didn't believe, check out Guilhem Desq - Cicatrices - Hurdy Gurdy, kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5WmhmprerKknpY

Well both a bagpipe and Hurdy Gurdy both heavily rely upon the Drone bassline. So they have that deeply in common. So I would say his statement is not entirely incorrect. Plus as mentioned, he meant they sound similar not that they operate remotely the same lol.

@@trymidsalarthun9915 i suppose.. but please, believe me when i say that a gurdy would not last very long in a salty environment whatsoever. It's not something you can compensate for changes in the instrument in the way you can with violins, guitars and stuff like that. it was chosen as a pirate instrument in some games and shows because 1. the name is slightly piratey to some people, i guess and 2. because "it's weird rustic and funny and makes squeaks and creaks! that's piratey right?"

This was the easiest way for a single person to make something like a whole musical band sound in medieval times and it didn't take that much mastery
@lynxlightning95057 жыл бұрын
Actually, it takes quite a bit of mastery to play a hurdy gurdy. The buzzing sound is produced by a special drone string that rests on a moving bridge. The player uses minute flicks of the wrist and fingers of the cranking hand to flick the string against the special bridge thereby causing the bridge to vibrate against the soundboard creating the buzz. it is quite complicated and various rhythms can be created to compliment the melody being played. Check out Oscar Fernandez.

Not to mention that minstrels we’re adept at making additional noisemakers like jingles sewn on a band to tie just under the knee for added percussion. Many good modern acoustic guitar players have begun using slaps, slides, thumps, and taps on different parts of the instrument during performances, using their fingers hands elbows and wrists.

Wheeled Lyre I saw this musical instrument for the first time while watching a video. It is a very difficult and skillful tool to make. In the program called "Keeping Tradition Alive" on TRT Documentary, they show perhaps the last representatives of centuries-old traditions all over the world, especially handicrafts and sustaining life. In the video I watched, one of the last masters making a Wheeled Lyre was told. The video was shot in Ukraine. The master who made this musical instrument tells. "In the past, only the blind played this instrument. I don't know why only the blind played it. These artists used to sing the songs of our ancestors and tell history while playing the Wheeled Lyre. Then our country was invaded. The invaders killed all the artists who played the Wheeled Lyre, because they were telling our history." While searching for the Wheeled Lyre video, I saw a video of a busker playing this instrument. Strangely enough, this street artist was also visually impaired.
