I think that the nail in their proverbial coffin would be that their son turned up at their house without Gabby, /in her car./ They know that they're not married and so a courtesy call to say, "My son's here without your daughter driving in her car." Instead of that, they blocked them. They knew. What I want to know is how this doesn't qualify them for accessory after the fact. If they took proactive steps to hide their son from the consequences of his murdering gabby, how ISNT that accessory?

Roberta most likely enabled the behavior, which completely explains the "burn after reading" letter. She enabled his abuse, supported it in a way, and most likely defended his actions by making excuses. (Blaming Gabby for him getting abusive with her during their relationship) This was not new behavior. It is infuriating to consider she is lying about when that letter was written and why. The reason I doubt that she wrote it before instead of after is the simple fact if it had nothing to do with Gabby's murder, she would not have any reason to refuse to handling it over in discovery.

This case is a perfect example of the kind of Mommy enabling that ends in tragedy for daughters in law. Roberta Laundrie is exactly like Chris Watt's mother and Scott Peterson's mother and probably many others. They raise a son that is completely smothered and pampered, and when the son finds a girlfriend or wife, Mom vilifies them because they don't want anyone to come between them and their precious baby boy. I'm 100% convinced that Roberta knew exactly what happened and probably even encouraged Brian to do what he did, perhaps not openly, but certainly with her contempt. I hope this case goes forward and the Laundries lose everything they own. They deserve prison, IMO, but financial ruin might have to suffice.

I have a few questions: the first is-if someone is missing and the police are involved; is this not withholding information from law enforcement? Also, the van was not in his name; so technically he took the van without permission & did not tell police? Is that not against the law? Did he not use Gabby's credit cards or bank card? without permission? Thats theft. Right? They with held infomation about Gabby's location as well as her wellbeing & safety. The Laundries blocked Gabby's parents on social media/cell phones and refused to give any information to the police or Gabby's parents. This situation breaks my heart for Gabby & her family. I hope something can be done in the court of law! Thank you! for covering this case!

The 'burn after writing' thing is interesting because, in the mid-2000s, I was given the same advice by a therapist. I was advised to write my feelings down into a letter, go somewhere special to me, and then burn it. It actually helped at the time. 🖤

My brother and I have some "burn after reading" letters when we were going through some stuff - therapy, divorce, mental health & self medicating. We said so things similar to this letter about how we would stand by each other and bury bodies. It was hyperbole. And hopefully would never come back to haunt us like this. I don't know why RL wrote hers but I know my letters would look very incriminating in the right or wrong context. We also don't date ours either.

@@leogrrrl5876 I want to know why he made that trip home. The storage unit was a lie. His sister even said it was a storage locker. Cleaning out a locker takes 5 minutes, not 5 days. In the original long version of the Moab traffic stop, he admitted he wasn't on his meds but that's somehow deleted from the other versions. I bet he told mommy dearest about that and she ordered him home to see a doctor/psychiatrist to get back on his meds. There's a reason G wasn't allowed to travel back with him. Either the meds were the wrong dose, they weren't monitored or he failed to take them which resulted in him killing G 5 days later.

@@bettyir4302 I don't know the answers to those questions. I do know that Emily doesn't like us to speculate on people's personal medical matters, & that I myself have a lot of questions in regards to that period of time (& even the double murder in Moab that was deemed unrelated). Hopefully though some, if not all, of the questions about Brian's in-between return to Florida will be answered in the course of this trial & through discovery.

In the court of public opinion, what the Laundries did is not only immoral but can be seen as, at the very least, obstructing justice and possibly an accessory to murder. The letter is damning and if the letter was written prior to the murder, there are so many questions. Who writes a ride or die burn letter about murder and prison for their adult son before he goes on road trip with his fiancé? So suspicious. I can’t see a jury not finding in favor of Gabby’s parents in civil court if the letter is allowed as evidence.

How can he be an agent in FL without a FL license to practice law? Do all NY attorneys have the right to rep FL folks in FL cases? The Laundries refused to talk to anyone. At one point didn't they actually mislead police as to BL's whereabouts? I recall the police news conference. It is one thing to support or defend someone you love. And there are legal limitations when it comes to spouses. But there is no such law protecting parents from liability if they know their kid has committed a crime, is there?

@bubbles0216 Жыл бұрын
@aquariusmoon771 Did you watch this video? If the people who lived with your loved one cut off all contact when your loved one was missing (and knew or suspected foul play), would you feel empathy for them? What about after they let (or helped) their son hide/run from police and end his life after killing your kid? It's hard to have empathy for people who show no humanity. Human to human, what they did to Gabby's family is abhorrent. You don't block all contact when someone's child lived with you, and your child comes home from a trip with them alone, distraught. The Laundry family didn't lose Brian - they let (or helped) him leave. I'd have empathy for them if they actually did try to keep Brian safe - alive. The optics are horrible, and maybe people will come to know a reason to feel for them, but from what we know, even the most sensitive and reasonable people have a hard time finding a reason to care about how they may be feeling. It's like corruption. The silence of supposedly decent people compounds the violation and distress of any catastrophic event. The Laundry family had the power to alleviate some of the dread. Instead, not only did they block the fearful parents, which is TERRIFYING in that situation, but they appear to have actively helped Brian ensure they'd never have answers. I'm sure it sucks when your kid turns out to be a murderer. Their actions before his death aren't absolved by their loss. I can acknowledge it sucks, but I can't muster an emotional connection to it because of their known actions in the whole of the situation from the limited information we have. If we know their motives in the moment, maybe that will change. -From another person who doesn't have empathy for parents who lost their son - because that was AFTER he ended another life and they stonewalled people going through one of the worst things imaginable. Once Gabby was missing, their own actions made them horrible. The nuance matters a lot here.

Perhaps the Petito family will be able to use this case and any information they learn to set a precedent in any future cases similar to theirs. Brian returned in her van without her but wasn’t interrogated by police about Gabby’s whereabouts. I never understood why they were allowed to keep the van and all her belongings after he returned home no questions asked. I also believe had her body not been found he’d still be alive. Once she was found he was caught and saw no way out. Had the police and FBI been on him as soon as he returned home he may have been arrested. This case covered several states and he used her bank card, drove her van across state lines and used her cellphone. That makes it federal. Her family wants answers and have been denied by his sorry parents and law enforcement. This is the only way they’ll get any answers. I don’t blame them.

@@cindyliao2250 I don't believe there will ever be closure. The actions of the Laundries set in motion denied justice for Gabby's loved ones. I have often wondered who coined that word. CLOSURE and applied it to victims and their loved ones when a murder happens. No parent should have to bury their child and to lose their child in such a terrible way. It will forever haunt. I have wondered why there is no word for a parent who has lost a child? Does any society have one? When we lose a spouse Widow or Widower exists. We close doors/windows/legal cases. We don't close the loss of anything. We can compensate. There is no correction. There is no closure. The whole definition of victim needs some work. There is the victim of the actual murder/crime and then there are those victimized by the crime/loss of their loved one. I recall back 30+ years ago the victim of a crime was as far as our civil and criminal courts went. I see Gabby's case as a nexus. Do the effected victims have legal standing and rights in FL? How about other states?
