question: if you bring them inside an unheated garage do they need to be by a window or is it okay to have the plant in a dark garage over winter?
@DanielleTanios Жыл бұрын
I wonder that too!
@PetittiGardenCenters Жыл бұрын
A dark garage overwinter is fine for any of the trees/plants that lose their leaves. If you are going to bring an evergreen plant in the garage, it helps to have artificial lighting or a window.

Great video! For the Hydrangea Tree, what size and type pot (ceramic vs plastic) would you use on the patio in NE Ohio? I would love to have a hydrangea tree on the patio with annuals planted below.
@PetittiGardenCenters Жыл бұрын
Pot size needs to be at least 2" wider & deeper than the root ball on the tree. If you want to plant annuals around the base, you will need a pot at least 6" deeper than the root ball so it sits about 4" below the top lip of the pot. Drainage holes are key, and so is propping up the pot over winter so it doesn't sit directly on your patio surface. Plastic vs. Ceramic is really a personal choice, there are pros & cons to both. Plastic is durable, lightweight, but will breakdown after a few years. Ceramics are heavier, frost resistant, but can be damaged if they freeze due to poor drainage.

I wish there was a tree type plant that will tolerate a northern exposure. early morning and after 4pm

The panicle hydrangea trees will work in that aspect, so will Redbuds, Dogwoods, and Japanese Maples!

What is the best way to protect a rose tree planted in the ground? I have 4 knock out roses grafted on a standard. I bought pool noodles to put around the trunks but what about the graft union?
@PetittiGardenCenters Жыл бұрын
Pool noodles are a great hack to protect the rose trunks. It's best to flair the top end of the noodle in order to try and have it surround the graft as best as possible or use an additional piece of foam insulation to wrap around the graft. Before you place the noodle on the rose tree, try spraying it with Wilt-Stop first, then the noodle/insulation. You can also try making a teepee out of supports/stakes and wrap burlap on it to reduce winter wind damage and keep off any heavy snow and ice.

@bellakim94042 ай бұрын
About 2 inches of additional space on all sides of the container from the original pot the plant came in

Don’t their root systems quickly outgrow the containers, then they die or must be repotted?

She addressed that in the latter part of the video.
