Shasta Daisies (aka Leucanthemum) are classic, white petaled, sunny yellow centered daisies with a variety of sizes, petal types, and habits Along with being a great deer-resistant perennial, Shasta daisies are also fantastic pollinator-attracting plants for sunny spots in the garden! Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist, and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about the benefits of growing Shasta daisies in your garden. Along with their classic charm, newer varieties are bred for outstanding weather tolerance, repeat, superior blooming performance, and all-around easy maintenance. As with most perennials, we recommend fertilizing with ‪@EspomaOrganic‬ Plant-tone® and Iron-tone® to provide nutrients for those showy blooms. For front borders in the landscape, try shorter varieties such as 'Snow Lady', 'Freak', 'Real Dream', 'Real Sunbeam', 'Snowcap', or 'Whoops-A-Daisy'. For medium-height varieties try 'Banana Cream', 'Goldfinch', 'Daisy May', 'Paladin', or 'White Mountain'. For tall varieties that also make great cutting flowers, try 'Brightside', 'Real Glory', or 'Becky'.

I have daisies in my garden in areas around the lamppost in front of our home. Cut them down and they do have buds but no blooming yet maybe soon. Planted in honor of my Mother who carried daisies the day she was married! Thank you, Noelle, for showing so many varieties of daisies, how they should be fed, divided and what growing conditions they like! As you are approaching autumn, I was thinking about the beauty of the season in Northeast Ohio. ENJOY!

There are so many nurseries, growers, and plantsmen on you tube presenting monthly tour videos or 'whats hot right now at....', but the best videos are from Noelle and Petitti. ❤Thank You. The Spotlight videos are my faves!!😊

I finally got my Shasta Daisies. I love that I can maintain it for medium height and that I can divide it. A plus is that they are perrenials.

Our Shasta daisies took over the garden in one season and crowded out other perennials and shrubs so we had to relocate as much of them as we could to a more controlled area. The ones we left are now starting to take over the area again so we can attest to how aggressive they are!

I have Becky. I live in Georgia, zone 8b, started with 5 small plants and now (10 years later) have a large bed full. I’ve never divided them and they bloom beautifully every year. Some seem to get brown and mushy in fall and naturally die back but each year in spring I have a thick carpet of flowers again.

I have 4 whoopsie daisies. They r huge! Maybe 30 inches tall. They almost never reflower for me and like another commenter in late summer/fall they brown up and look awful. But have come back each year. They r pretty when they bloom! I didn’t realize they needed divided. Thanks for the tip!

That was the best intro to Shasta Daisies I ever saw! Now I need to get me some but first I need to make beds for them. Wish I lived near your stores; I am in NY.☹️

I live in northern NJ where deer pressure is high so like almost all other so-called deer resistant plants, these are readily eaten by deer. So far, only foxglove escapes their hunger.

We've experienced this too, especially with young deer who are exploring for the first time. Have you ever tried spraying deterrent such as Plantskydd?

@@PetittiGardenCenters oh, I’ve tried everything and I’ve also come to the conclusion that the notion of deer not eating hairy/fuzzy plants is a fairly tail. Heck, they eat roses so why would some fuzzy flowers bother them. Anyway, they consumed many other hairy perennials I’ve tried as well. Fencing is the only sure fire way to stop them.

Kia ora from New Zealand. Great information on growing Shasta daisies. I have just purchased some seeds and I am about to start them in trays - just on my windowsill but am wondering if they can also be direct sown? It is winter here - but a lot of hardy annuals can be grown here over winter.

Thanks so much for watching, Jacinta! Since we're located in Northeast Ohio and aren't familiar with your climate, we recommend speaking to someone at your local, independent Garden Center for more information on direct sowing seeds in your area!

Daisy Trees are actually flowering tropical plants native to the Canary Islands that bear white or yellow flowers, depending on the variety, that look very similar to common garden daisies. In Northeast Ohio, we treat them like an annual flowering plant or a houseplant in the winter months.
