Interesting video. I hope that you enjoyed your walk. Petoskey was "discovered" possibly, in part, to the redevelopment of the old Penn-Dixie Cement property into Bay Harbor. Petoskey had long been a tourist mecca due to the summer influx at Bay View for many years before that, but the Petoskey, where I grew up, is not the town that I left in 1972. There were only a few places downtown that I recognized in your video; the store fronts yes, but not the businesses. On Howard St, the old First National Bank is now a Chase branch. Kilwin's and Murdick's are still there but not much else that I recognize. Lake Street is not the same. Hopefully Symons General Store is still there. The shops that wintered in Ft Lauderdale are gone, but a shout out to McLean and Eakin book store which is located in the old Hollywood Theater building. The waterfront is totally different, gentile, with nice landscaping ...and yachts. I used to fish off the dock and breakwater. The Bear River is "improved" with the park like walkways. I don't need to be in Petoskey to go to all the national chain stores ( e.g. Walmart's) that now have outlets there on the outskirts and drove out many local businesses. Look at the empty store fronts on Mitchell Street, even JC Penney, which had been there forever on the corner of Mitchell and Howard, pulled out. Those Fudgies who moved to Petoskey for the local ambience wanted their amenities that they had in the cities they moved from, which permanently changed the local ambience. The locals that work at the stores, hospital etc who keep things running can't afford to live there anymore. There is a shortage of local affordable housing. Fudgie money is what changed this town. I'm not sure it has been for the better overall. It is not a town where I could return and reestablish permanent residency as much as I would like to.

I appreciate you taking the time to inform the current generation on the changes in the city. So typical across the country small towns are being changed to suit the new money moving in. We have lost a lot of cool places. Sad.

Thar little shop that you showed in the back and that home to the left there on Michigan Street across from the Catholic church was my grandmother's. That little shop was the home of my mom and dad when they got married .

@@apilotsperspective Thanks for your reply and wonderful video. I have visited the upper NE side of MI and several times and it is absolutely beautiful, but I found the people insular and not very welcoming, even as with you saying hello to passers-by. Maybe it was because Covid was still a thing, but it was very real. I really wanted to make a retirement move to the area, but my experience is hindering that plan... Maybe this area is the ticket, and I have a friend visiting Petoskey tomorrow and am very interested in hearing their experience.

Did you stop the traffic. I lived there for 17 years never seen that little of traffic and humans . Lol
