Korda, a strict flat-ball hitter, was as renowned for his onslaught of unforced errors, as he was for his incredible lasers in all directions: when he was on, he was incredible, but when off ...

He played some phenomenal 5 set matches against Pete (grand slam cup : won, Wimbledon :lost , Us Open : won). Brilliant one handed backhand, one of the very best.

@@teerowel Yes: whether you believe the allegations against P.Korda or not, poor Marcelo Rios choked away the '98 AOpen final HARD (Rios did beat Korda solidly and easily later that year in '98 Indian Wells, winning 6-4, 6-2: their overall H2H was 4-4).

I always liked Korda....great player...thats the thing...Pete had to compete with Korda, Ivanisevic, Stich, Becker, Edberg, Muster, Rios, Krajicek, Rafter, Henman, Lendl, McEnroe, Connors, Kuerten, Rusedski, Norman, Bjorkman, Chang, Philipoussis, Larson, Santoro, Enquist, Bruguera, Corretja, Agassi, Martin, Kafelnikov....all diferent style players.....now you have Federer competeing with the same style push players, from the baseline, I mean Nadal, Djokovic and the rest all play the SAME!

@joeterfqdwgvqwgw I mean, that's kinda what we have right now with Sebi Korda (Petr's son, who has a 2HBH), but this age is a baseline one (with lots of spin), and it's not too easy (after a great start to this year, Sebi got stalled with a number of injuries and false starts, but still ended the year at a career-high, and played well in the last quarter of this year).

Maybe if Rios could keep a ball in play it would have been different? You prob don’t know that was Korda’s SECOND appearance in a Major final? Rios played like a little bi tch could have put anyone on the other side his play wasn’t deserving of a Major. Korda didn’t test positive at the AusO either.
