this is a live show in 1978. why do you think they'd have studio trickery or pitch-correction software that hadn't been invented yet on stage at a Californian megachurch full of hippies?

...and they had concerts like this every Saturday night at that church? Do these people have *any idea* how fortunate they were? In 1978, I never even heard of Petra, Phil Keaggy, DeGarmo & Key, Larry Norman, Randy Stonehill ... All I heard to that point was "O Happy Day" by the Edwin Hawkins singers, and "Amazing Grace" by Judy Collins!

I know right. All we had was Amy Grant 'Never Alone' from 1980 & an old Imperials LP. Then Michael W Smith came out with a couple a great albums - then we discovered Petra - 'Never Say Die' & 'More Power to Ya' and so so many more great Spirit filled bands. Not to forget the So Cal original 'Sweet Comfort Band' - which lacked Petra's legs - only an 11 year run 73-84, not 33 years, but those 11 years = 7 or 8 stellar Albums ! I still have a collection of 500+. Gospel Rock Jazz Pop Albums.... God used this music mightily in our lives...my 5 kids are fans of much of my 'old music' - Petra is their Favorite... PS the "Classic Petra - Back to the Rock - Album & LIVE Concert VIDEO from 2011 is GOLDEN. Greg X Volz & Bob H & band hadn't lost ANY of their ability.

The people at this are stunned to be hearing real all out rock n roll in the church!! I don't think they know how to react to it or if it's even ok to listening to it. lol. Back in 78 it was a big deal to have electric guitars or electric anything let alone drums. But God is bigger than the boxes people so often try to put Him in. I'm so glad he is too because we people so often get our flesh in the way. Even today many are wanting to put music in categories of what is Gods kind of music or not.

Praise the Lord ! 🏵️🌸🌼🙌🏼🏵️🌸🌼🙌🏼❤️‍🔥🙌🏼🌼🌸🏵️🙌🏼🌼🌸🏵️ Taste and see ! If all you got is a fancy car And a precious diamond ring When you stand before the Lord Will it really mean a thing? You've got to see how good your life can be You've got to feel what's really, really real How can you know until you taste and see How good it is to be set free? Taste and see that the Lord is good He's got milk and honey for you Come and dine at the Master's table, He'll serve bread and wine to you Well you tasted this and you tasted that But you still ain't satisfied You'll never find any peace of mind In those empty things you tried Don't be afraid of tasting something new Your soul is hungry, nothing else will do The bread of life will keep you satisfied You won't go hungry or ever be denied You've got to make up your mind And leave your old life behind you You know He'll take it away 🙌🏼🙌🏼🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🌸🕊️🌸🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🙌🏼🙌🏼 Teste et vois ! Why should the Father bother to call us His children? Why should the Spirit hear it when we pray? Why should the Father bother to be concerned with all our needs? It's all because of what the Son has done Once we were lost out on the ocean with no direction or devotion Tossed about by every wind and wave Now we are in the world not of it and we can surely rise above it Because the Lord has risen from the grave Why should the Father bother to call us His children? Why should the Spirit hear it when we pray? Why should the Father bother to be concerned with all our needs? It's all because of what the Son has done And we cry "Abba Father, Abba Father Abba Father, Abba Father" We cry "Abba Father, Abba Father Abba Father, Abba Father" Once we were strangers from the promise We were doubters worse than Thomas till the Spirit opened up our eyes Now he has offered us Adoption And we have taken up the option to be His family eternally Why should the Father bother to call us His children? Why should the Spirit hear it when we pray? Why should the Father bother to be concerned with all our needs? It's all because of what the Son has done It's all because of what the Son has done 🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🩵🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ Pourquoi le père devrait-il s'en soucier ? Incredible that you have a video even this far back!! Petra was a serious rock group right from the start. I know this line up isn't the absolute original as you have stated but the fantastic song writing and off the charts guitar playing of Bob was a big chuck of the foundation right from the start and just kept going through all the years. I don't know how you came to have this but thank you so very much for the blessing. Is there any footage that you know of that might exist of more? Great!!

Petra rocks. Back then you were Christian if you wore khaki. Later they switched to jeans. Crazy. I love how most folks in the seats can only move their head to the beat, smile, and maybe clap. Anything more than that, which resembles fans at a Woodstock festival is a sin. Crazy times.

I always liked the first 2 albums they did and when Washes Whiter Than I gave it away because I thought foolishly that it was going to rock like the first ones. I suspected someone in the business back then told Volz and Hartman that they weren't going anywhere if they kept rocking out for Jesus.
@gregrumpff5392

Washes Whiter Than is definitely disappointing musically but I see it as a necessary evil. That first radio hit ("Why Should the Father Bother?") kept the band financially solvent enabling them to continue on to record more artistically rewarding albums down the road.

I know, but the way that I actually see it is that so many managers in music do not realize that for to be a truly successful band you need to know that really Jesus really does rock, that's because in life at all Jesus is the Rock.
