Countries like India when there are less tax payers oil is the only way where they can collect money to run the country, during the time of covid people demanded everything for free , so what the petrol prices are high , I thing you can use public transport , I don't think the public transport is not much bad in India, people talk about to use public transportation to reduce pollution and to save money , I think there is no problem here.

How can government work in such a small amount of money? So at last they have to put more and more taxes on products and services. If people stop tax evasion (tax chori) and start paying taxes to government then only we’ll see changes in india. If the government will pay the bond from the proceeds of patrolling tax, then some such works or some sectors which are running on the basis of this income, how it works? Paise kamana bohot aasan hai govt ke liye. Yeh to kuch nhi. the taxes on Phones, Tablets, Laptops, PC Parts are so high that some phones cost 5000 more some Pc parts cost till 15000 when imported and the demand went high up in the sky like crazy, and thats evident as there's still shortage and many devices are discontinued because of the same. That caused price hike in phones, tabs, pc parts even cars as i bought 1 recently that was also having the shortage issue so i even couldnt get the model and color which i was looking for. This has also caused govt to earn more. But why only petrol then. I know this has a good impact on Environment but so has electric vehicles, but the taxes on cars imported from foriegn that are EV are also very high, shouldnt they reduce the taxes on them. Also States like Gujarat and Dehli which are giving 10-15k subsidies on buying EVs.This is also very good step, they should start this on a national level. And Obviously we need more money to spend in defense as we are in danger, Squeezing between Pak and China also some danger via Taliban as Pak is friends with them. So we need more on defense. And adressing the billion dollar point, thats nothing. Modi had promised to make india a 5 trillion dollar economy, so this is just the 0.005% of the promise. And i've just realised that i have spent minutes writing this so if u read the whole comment please reply in counter or supprt or just give a like. And also hope u've understood that govt earns massive but corruption even on a small level destroys that.

Dhruv Rathee is clown, he needs to do comparative analysis with other countries such as those in the West (where taxation is a key part of Govt revenue). Excise duty on petrol in India is Rs 32.9 per litre, or around 33% of Retail price of Rs. 100 per litre. In UK, excise duty is 57.9 pence per litre which is 41% of the Retail price of 140 pence per litre. Most of countries in EU are in the 35-40% ED per litre range. The bigger problem is Local State Sales tax of 20% ad valorem (on value). which has a logarithmic effect on price increase.

In any case, the correct way of comparing income between two countries in through PPP and Disposal income. PPP between West and India is around 3 and not 10. Then we have to consider taxes. Per capita tax on Income in the West is on an average 60% (income tax, VAT, council/locality tax), whereas in India it is not more than 15% on an average (considering tax free argi income, subsidies, freebies etc.). Therefore, £2,000 pm income in UK ends up with after tax disposable income of £800 pm. PPP ratio of 3:1 will reduce it to £267 pm (Rs. 27,000 pm). In India, Rs. 20,000 pm income will end up with after tax disposable income of Rs. 18,000 pm. Income Ratio 3:2 (UK vs India) Retail price of petrol in UK is £1.40 or Rs. 150 per litre, whereas in India it is Rs. 100 per litre. Petrol price Ratio 3:2 (UK vs India). Final ratio= 3/2 * 2/3 = 1 No difference. This is how Dhruv Rather needs to analyse.

Great content as always, Dhruv ! Keep up the good work. One point does to mind - oil bonds are not the only debt the government has to repay. Tax revenues from sale of petrol/oil is a big revenue stream for the government. And earnings from 2015-2016 might have been used to settle other debts that might have been due sooner. It's not necessary to use revenue generated from one stream to settle debts only pertaining to that stream. Also, with declining value of Indian rupee, it may be better to hold off paying debts until they are due (when value of the rupee is even lower than today) rather than paying everything now even though the cash is available to do so.
