I have the passion for Alfas, but not the money. That´s why my daily driver is a Alfa 156 Sportwagon 1.9 Jtd from 2000, one of the first 156 Spotwagon ever made and i love it, even with the front wheel drive and the diesel engine it is a pleasure to drive,. 2 turns of the steering from top to top makes for a very direct front, the direction is really something special in these underappreciated alfas, i feel everything that the front wheels are doing and the front suspension makes it feel not a front drive machine. I´m sorry for you guys in the United States that don't know these beautiful 156 cars, we call them "Bellas" here in Europe, with good reason. I wish that here where i do live, in Portugal by the way, we had the same level of monetary income as you guys, but even so we have very beautiful and rare examples of classic alfas, the Portuguese people have always loved Italian cars like Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat, but classic Alfas are alive and well here, for such a little country as we are i really think we are as real Alfisti as any, second only to the Italians.

As an italian I feel proud when I see this stuff being loved in far countries. My father has "teached" me to love Alfa Romeo since he has always possessed an Alfa as own car: first a Giulia 1600, then Alfetta 1800, Alfa 90 2000 6 cylinders, Alfa 164.. I love those cars and their sound. Of course the ones of this video is much more precious, but all of them have the same "soul".. Great car and great video.

Conrad not only spent time talking to me, he gave me advice on my car. I don't know if he remembers me but I remember him every time I fire up my Jr.

Alfas just have an essence to them, they're so special. I had a '77 GTV, that I bought for a few hundred dollars. It overheated half the time, had numerous electrical gremlins I could never track down, and it was half rust, but, on those days when it was running right, it made me feel like a hero behind the wheel!

Excellent show. Alphas are on the scene in some of my best memories. I fell in love with them at 17, 1969, in Rome, Milan and Turino. I bought a used 71 giulia 1750 in the early 80s and loved it, but I blew a seal and it seized up. Careless. I put a piece of plywood on my dining room floor and took the engine apart, put in new rings. Tried to get it back together, but I screwed up somewhere and it wouldn't turn over. Sold it for parts. Sad. But my best friend had a 72 GT Veloce 2 litre with dual Webers and I drove it often. Such a lovely exhaust note. Ah, me.

I come back to this video time and time again. This Alfa really got to me. Bertone's design was OK, but I didn't take to the Giulietta SS and Giulia SS. I preferred the coupes. But what you did with the original design was remarkable. In my view you improved on the shape and made it look incredibly dynamic even when the car is standing still. Very dramatic! Congratulations!

Question to ponder: Does a car dictate an era in time; or does an era in time dictate the car?
@blindassassin11110 жыл бұрын
Both. Some cars were the defining design of art, or engineering, and defined an era, while some eras defined what was created, but usually the prior lead to the later. But great question!
