As they don't make a set of rally mud flaps from a Mini F54 Clubman I decided to try and fit my own. I bought a set of generic Sparco flaps from Demon Tweeks and then got my mate Jack to fit them. If you live on the south coast and need a Mini specialist for you car then I highly recommend Jack. He does everything from a basic service to high level tuning.

Commenting on the latest mod, primarily because you requested feedback. And also because I have great appreciation for what you’ve done with the channel. I get what you were after with these rally flaps, but the end result just doesn’t suit the car. Rather than going into a list of reasons, will just leave it at that and hope that you reconsider. We can go on about an owner’s ability to make each car their own. In rare cases an intervention is needed and this is one of those times.

Since everyone else is being brutally blunt I feel compelled to chime in. I really don't think they look that bad but I would have painted them to match the red on the car or gotten black ones if possible. They have a much more orange hue than the stock red paint which gives them a very utilitarian vibe.

A large reason rear mud flaps are used in rallying is to reduce the risk of spectators being showered with fast moving rocks. Obviously front flaps would offer some protection to the sides of the car from mud & stones stotting off the windows & bodywork. I imagine a lot of rally fans just do it for the 'look' but I think a 4wd, nearly 300hp Mini with a loud exhaust can wear them well. They'd look a bit stupid on a Mercedes S Class (or suchlike).

Personally I would've gone with black, and that's what I'll be putting on Badger eventually. With regards to Carly, I prefer Bimmercode and use an OBDLinkMX+ adapter. The adapter allows for the scanning and clearing of faults on all vehicles, including Ford and GM proprietary canbus systems. But the coding options are limited only to BMW/Mini.

Best thing on this mod is reading the comments! I kinda like it but that's probably because it makes me think of the rally cars from back then. (I can hear those brutal roars again) Next up might be a big rear spoiler in GP3 style. Everyone will hate it but it stands out, doesn't it? Wait until these flaps get all dirty and worn out. Lovely! Just an idea Pete 🤔 I personly would have had them fitted with double-sided velcro fixing tape !!!!! The reason being you could easily remove them when you are not rallying or just popping down to your local shops 😊😊

Yh, the front mud flap may stop stones, but it will play havoc with the designers! Time, money, & effort put in to the R & D, then it all smashed away with a mud flap blocking the wheel well buffer, & brake cooling escape vents. Well that's it son. You'll have to slow down !! 🤣 Nice look tho 😁 👍

Flaps suit Charlie, but don't think they'd suit my GP. Bought a Carly at the end of last year to clear the occasional errors from the Akrapovic downpipe, and very impressed with it.

Imo - that is like an old USSR classic car Vaz 2106 with a fake sparco flaps that were very popular in the middle of 90s in Russia.. so, that is not for Mini ...IMO, but as we say in Russia - the taste of crayons is very individual:) if you like that - just have fun!!

I bought a used Focus ST last year that came with rally mud flaps. It did make me consider what sort of life the car had led prior to my ownership! I removed them two days after I bought it, I'm a big fan of WRC but I just felt a bit too old to be sporting mud flaps on a daily driver. I think yours might have looked better in black. The red isn't the right shade and are a bit too obvious. Thats just my opinion though!

I hadn't thought of using that type of mudflap. Mini doesn't make rear mudflaps for F55's, so mine looks a little out of balance with just the fronts.

Mainly on the back of your fantastic review, I've just gone a bought a Clubman JCW. Sight unseen, not even driven one and the dealers are closed so it's click and collect. There are some pretty good deals around at the mo in the 6 to 12m old ex dem market. Big chunk off of list. I think there might be a bit of pent up demand when the dealers open up again. I will NOT be putting mud flaps on it.

I shan't comment on the mudflaps other than to say I'm more aligned with the commenters than you - but it's your car (I did like your engine bay bling though). Tried downloading Carly (no 'e' by the way Ped) to see if I could use the Lite/Demo version with the OBD I already use with Bimmercode to compare, but sadly it wouldn't connect to it (kept pestering to buy 'their' OBD2 tool, which is $pendy). It looks like a nicer/friendlier interface than Bimmercode, but I don't like the continual subscription vs the one off $30 for Bimmercode.

Dear Peter, you asked for comments, well you certainly got them. I will not comment on the aesthetics since that is very personal and I personally think that "stylish" is a grossly overused word; and I am not sure of its meaning. I prefer to consider functionality and economics and on both counts mud flaps work. In the area of function I will just give two examples for properly sized, positioned and fitted flaps. Firstly, they protect the underside of the car, especially important with the current state of many British roads. Secondly, they reduce spray limiting visibility for following vehicles. As for economics they are relatively inexpensive and the enhanced protection and safety easily justifies the cost. Just one warning, beware if you are reversing into a parking bay with a kerb such as found in our local tip. Damage can occur!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello pal. I fitted Red rally flaps to Shogie bear, however, after a year, they faded to Pink. As you can imagine, I had the proverbial ripped out of me. I have now reverted to OEM on her. They looked lovely at the start and did the job. Suits your pal. Just beware in case they start. Either way, they will save your bodywork.

Not so sure about the mudflaps. But the first thing I did with my F54 was go to bimmercode.com , buy an OBD adapter and turn off ASD. That gets rid of the fake exhaust noise coming through your speakers. I see you have the same option with your Carly app. Highly recommended.

Will this last as long as those F54 stickers on the wheel arch I wonder? I can understand people wanting them if they drive on muddy country lanes a lot as they do keep the filth level down but the red is too much to my eyes and it's a different tone of red to the stripes and roof. If you'd gone for black it would be more of a subtle change with all the stock black plastic trim on the sills and arches. Still if you are happy with them that's the only person apart from Mrs Petrol Ped who matters. Your car your choice

Not sure about these unless you are screaming around off road. However, more serious mod, discussion. Have you any experience with Race Chips boxes or other mods to make F54s go faster. Unfortunately mine is only a 230 hp one so a bit more power would be good, maybe somthing to get it close to the new one without having to upgrade.

Don’t mod on the cheap. Get your engine tested first and then upgrade important stuff like intercooler and plugs 👍

As always, great content, especially when MINI, and again when Charlie. I’ll be fitting those resistors that aren’t needed tomorrow now too 😂, an intermittent issue when first used, but annoying as. Undecided on the mudflaps, I’m a fan of them generally, but I kind of like the clean lines of Charlie without. Whilst the fronts will prevent some debris from coming through the vents in the arches, I guess it will compromise air flow minimally. Charlie remains class IMHO. Your chariot at the end of the day and everyone will have a view. Enjoy mate.

Gotta go on Pedro's side here, had an r55 clubman s and after blasting along Welsh and local country roads, mudflaps were a definite mod, each to there own here so not something a city clubby would need but a lane blaster, definitely. Oh and Carly, had one for over 6 years and a brilliant way to mod for additional specs

On a different subject, are you aware of anyone fitting a dash cam in a Clubman? Just swapped from a JCW hatch to a JCW Clubman and having a problem working out how to fit the rear camera/cable due to the distance of the door from the body in the open position. Thanks in anticipation.

They look good. You need to get some stickers made now that say Sparco and you can swap out the "p" for your Petrol Ped symbol. Or just the petrol Ped symbol on each one. Not sure how long they would stay on for though...
