Win A BMW 👉 bit.ly/Win-A-BM...
When you've only driven a car on a track you just have to spend time with one on the road so you can fully get to understand it. This is definitely the case with the BMW M2 CS. Can this ultimate M Car really be £25,000 better that a standard M2 Competition and is it a car you could daily...if you wanted to. Well thanks to BMW UK I got to spend a week answering that question during which I covered over 600 miles.

It pains me because my first priority is a family hatch, and then a Porsche (Gt4 or Spyder) for something sporty. The M2 doesn't get a look in but really wish it did as this (and the comp) are truly special.

Great video and review as usual. I previously owned an original 2017 M2 with DCT that was also modified a little. 410bhp, coilovers and 763M wheels with Cup 2's. I sold that and was offered allocation of a M2 CS but I just could not justify the price of the M2 CS. I ended up buying a 981 GT4 with Clubsport pack for similar money to the M2 CS and I don't regret it all.

Hi, the plan? Buy the M2 Comp. Buy a set of Ohlins dampers, stage1, or 2 engine tune, & even new front seats also if u like. Still cheaper than the xtra £25,000 for the CS, yet it'd most likely handle betta, & be faster also, for a lot less ! That'd be my plan anyway. 😁

Totally agree with your preferred spec on manual and M brakes. After one month of ownership The improvements to me come in both the precision feedback today steering and the confidence inspiring ride which allows turn in at higher speeds. The setup without the adaptive suspension would often allow the back to skip around corners.

Good review, new subscriber here! Love the CS it’s a fantastic looking car. Even as a track car I’m not sure I’d opt for carbon ceramics as although they last a long time they are hugely expensive to replace, steel brakes with some more track focussed pads, braided lines etc more than adequate.

sorry but i don't agree on the brakes. i would NEVER go back to the regular ones. had the ceramics on my m4 and missed them ever since i sold that car. Glad to have em back on the CS now. I never track my cars but even on a backroad, you will feel the difference. with the ceramics, the breaking is as much fun for me as accelerating. also, they dont wear out remotely as much so i can brake as much and as hard as I want and dont need to feel bad about it

If I was 30 to 35 years younger, I'd have loved the M2 CS. Looks really nice and I bet it goes like a dream? However. As I near the big six, zero, it's too hard core for me now :-((... Though the auto DTC 'box is tempting :-))... But that £83k price tag has just lost me back into a new M550i ;-))... And I'm not normally keen on light blue cars, but this M2 with those black wheels looks stunning. Great video though Mr. G :-))...

The cheesy school boy grin when you get in the car :D BMW - have deliberately priced the CS to force "classic status", whereas the 1M was made a classic by the public. I think you basically summed up what they should have done, made a modern day CSL. Carbon Brakes for the road if not tracking it, steels for the track. If you're gonna nurse it the Carbons will probably last the life of the car JWW did a vid on his GT3 which summed it up pretty well.

Wondering, do cars need to look angry, mean, aggressive? What designs are universally admired by most people, Aston V8 Vantage, some of the older Ferraris and early Lambos, E Type, Citroen DS, going back earlier Delage made some beautiful cars. These have all stood the test of time, the M2 will look out of date in 2 years time. Aggressive looks, you can keep them. All IMO obvs. Best D.

Like you would love one for some of the reasons you mentioned (Says the man who "dailyed" an E46 CSL for 18 months but installed a flip screen sat nav in it ! )Like you I would not have the ceramic brakes but for me I would have the DCT. And somehow retrofit the wireless charger. And have gold wheels on the exclusive blue colour. But because I am not in a position to finance the £78k I am going to be happy with my recently arrived ex-demo Competition. Especially as , overtime, with the right OEM modifications I hope to have as good a car. One downside of my choice ? As @Joe Achilles said in his road test the CS in the spec I would want (actually the car he drove on the test) is probably a better road car because of the adaptive ride modes.

The E46 M3 CSL is in no way comparable to this. That was a bespoke classic, this is just a ///Marketing special like the F80 M3/M4 CS. Should have been more powerful and lighter. Just eye candy bits and heavier suspension on an M2 Competition and speculative price tag.

Could not agree with you more all the CS models are just run out specs as the new M2/3/4 models will be quicker, a real CS needs to lose 100kg and maybe pick up an extra 30-40 bhp.. then its special. But these as you say are just road cars dialled into their tyres more.

I personally feel the CS makes the better daily driver if you can afford the cost, specifically because of the adaptive suspension. As you stated, the issue is that BMW sent you the optioned out car that makes it worse for daily driving. The carbon ceramics, and the optional cup 2's are awful for a daily, and I honestly don't feel the DCT is any better for daily driving. It's not as smooth as automatic is, so why not just save the money and get the stick which will be more interesting long term anyways.

It's no track toy or no better than a Competition. Remap an M2 Competition as an M4 Competition, put stickier tyres and they're equals. The adaptive suspension adds a digital dimension and weight that makes this CS contradictory. Engine-wise, the models mentioned differ only in power, otherwise same hardware and torque.

@eddb2994
@eddb2994 3 жыл бұрын
@@nicholasscallan5291 true! you may end up losing more... 45% depreciation on an m2c is about 25% depreciation on a cs... but what if the cs depreciates more than 25%? I think everyone thinks that these are going to be ‘future classics’ or something... if that were true then why is everyone concerned about whether it’s worth the money? Because it isn’t! The difference isn’t worth the extra cash! Hence why they’re still available and not sold out! If they were highly sought after their values would be through the roof... They’re also ~ £1000pm, which regardless of residual values, is a big jump from an m2 comp which is 5-600... so the overall cost is less for a comp...

Someone in the BMW steering wheel team decided to wrapped a regular M2C wheel with Alcantara? It does look like the steering wheel has a Halford's off the shelf steering wheel protective wrap of some kind, spoils a great simple cabin. Early M2's are becoming affordable in the US, very tempting.

On the brakes and not covered as a benefit outwith the braking capability I would suggest the weight saving and more the saving in unsprung mass will most certainly improve the driving dynamics and if you were in the fortunate position of having this track monster as your daily would be more forging as a result in our pot holed roads here in the UK. @@PetrolPed ultimately the interior of the M2 comp put me off, 8 year old style and technology now, and it certainly didn't feel like a £50k car when you where sat behind the wheel. But you can't fault the drive, it handled fantastically.

Hi Ped. really enjoyed your review. Shame though couldn't of let you have it in the summer! Lovely looking car but it has a very silly price. I would also ditch the carbon brakes and paddle shift box. Most important question for everyday use: could you get a bike in the boot? :-)

Well that’s a revue to remember! I watched Joe’s review of the blue CS and I compared it to how special it must feel in a similar way to how my new 1986 325i Sport felt...it was a delight but quite focussed. The CS is clearly special...it is a better car than the Competition but worth £25,000 more?....if money is not a concern then ŷes, it is. I would have to have the automatic because the manual gets my foot after a time (old DVT injury) but delete those brakes and tyres and go for a set of P4S perhaps. These days I’m not a huge fan of BMW but I would buy that car, it would be a Second car but it would take me back to my old 325i and I would recreate my trip up to and through the Artic Circle via Sweden and returning through Finland but then divert across to Northern Europe and back through Denmark, Holland, Germany and Belgium...back then I had just one tape cassette with me that I learnt by heart...10 tracks by Nat King Cole! If my numbers come up, it’s a CS plus an AMG GTR, a Porsche Turbo S, a Yaris GR for the Mendips and P400e Range Rover Sport for the daily. For town, that new Renault 5 is a car to watch for...so where did I put those winning Numbers??? Peter...good work again...save up for an M2 Competition to replace Ruby and to enjoy alongside that new “Y” job!! Stay safe! Richard 😃😃😃😎😎😎

@@PetrolPed it was Peter...and a LONG way...there is no shortage of trees up there...I drove through 800 miles of endless forest! It was a Charity Run raising money for a Minibus for the Care Home my father was staying at. We bought a new Ford Transit via and with the help of Hendy Ford in Portsmouth and then I took around ten residents out every week and we did 11,000 miles mostly around the Cotswolds and Somerset in the first two years whilst Dad was still a resident. The van survived to give 20 years service and did something around 130,000 miles so it did well! 🙂🙂🙂

Hi Sir Pete! So I agree the bmw looks aggressive and like a little beast! Very cool 😎. But for that price point I could buy a used 3 or 4th gen viper and I’d rather do that lol! Wow oh wow those snowy Mountain View’s were amazing what a bit of road to be able to drive! Great living with video Sir Pete!

The M2 CS is, objectively, a ///Marketing special. Want proof? Look at the F80 M3/M4 CS - equally overpriced and flopped. It's no E46 M3 CSL bespoke collectible or skunk works special like the 1M.

its alot of money more than a m2 comp but its not the car to be comparing against as the engine is completely different as its taken from the m3/m4 rather than the upgraded b58 that's in the m240i.
@nessuno5403
@nessuno5403 3 жыл бұрын
What? The original M2 had an evolved M235i N55-engine. The M2 Competition and CS have an S55 from the F80 M3/M4 - their hardware and torque is the same regardless of model. B58 (like N55) is not an M S spec engine and it's single turbo instead of twin turbo like the S55.
