I had to change insurance companies because I fitted an AEM induction kit to my R56. Unreal. However I can say it was the best engineered and quality aftermarket piece of kit I've ever fitted to my cars. The bonnet scoop is now functional after opening the holes out. Increase of 14bhp on paper. Panel filters generally don't give much of a difference to performance (or intake noise). Keep up the good work.

First thing I did to Penelope: K&N Filter, then the dealer installed Dinan Elite Tune, and that does not void warranty. Yields about another 50 hp, and about 60 ft pounds of torque. For the stock F56 these made a significant difference.

I was hooked until the pooches arrived on camera ! It's funny all the stuff we used to do , cone filters , webber carbs , hi output coils , plugs , updated leads. Now in 10 minutes you plug a tuning box to the fuel rail sensor and on the turbo boost , ta da 15 -20 % power boost! Think you might get more noise at the higher revs. Some ideas. Modern driving aids. Active lane assist driving the car , self park , front assist, Adaptice cruise. I know you cannot be out in the car to explain these things but many drivers never use them as it's a dark art! Give an explanation or discus. Remember my first experience of front assist with scooters diving in front of my car in San Tropez causing it to slam on the brakes! Another DIY mod could be interior panel gap trim. Just pushes into dash or door trims to liven up interior. I have some chrome red for Ateca , just no time. Keep safe.

Thanks for the videos....and stay safe!

They designed that induction path to keep water out of the airbox. If you do get a kit to open up the bonnet scoop make sure it has a path to reduce water ingress. 30% more airflow from 50% thinner filter and 80% less filtration sounds about right. Air filters tend to be one of the least cost effective upgrades. The filter may flow a little more air at high revs but how often are you doing that. The rest of the time the standard filter will provide all the air the car needs.

If you get a Felt Tip Marker Pen, and write "K&N" on the filter, will net you 10 more horse power. US stores are now controlling the number of customers in a store at one time, but they are also increasing deliveries and grocery pickup (collect and go).

Just a bit of fun changing an airfilter but no-one else has done that so as the Americans are fond of saying "Good Job". I fitted a washable air filter to my Volvo a couple of years ago, because the paper ones are utter rubbish and don`t last long before they are clogged up, not good, much better air flow, so there!!!

30 years ago I fitted a pancake filter to my Mk1 Fiesta Ghia (with turquoise seats and a brown tinted sunroof, nice!). It had twin webber carbs and could out drag my mates '86 Astra GL. Had a great brraaaahp sound to it. Performance filters should in theory make more power with modern engines due to the MAF monitoring the air flow and making adjustments to fuel pressure, so engines won't burn lean. Otherwise the performance will be worse. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, its been 28 years since college and I ended up being a carpenter not a mechanic!

Ive had no problems with my K&N panel filter on my 120d after 65k.120k miles now no smoke of any sort or no dreaded timing chain rattle lol.Although i ignore the ridiculous service interval of around 20k miles gone to 8-10k max.Mobil one only,also only shell/esso/bp fuel.Every 3rd tank superdiesel,well now every other seeing as its so cheap lol. Swapped to pipercross couple months ago.Then changed back to K@N within 3 days as I could feel the difference,not really in sound but in pickup at low revs.Great vid as usual 👍👍😁

Panel filters always best - all the benefits of cone filters (the full expensive inclosed cold feed induction systems maybe more benefit) but without the hot air heat sock halfords DIY cone systems give. Believe that bonnet scoop was purely for the first generation Cooper S and extra cooling for the supercharger that sat directly behind it, now as you say fake does nothing as turbocharged - BMW just see fit not to remove it from a style point of view.

It's not an Allen key, it is a Torx screw and they also make a tamper proof version, who says you can't go the long way to the shops, I have to go to two different shops to get my weekly shop, they are 500m apart on the same road. They are smaller shops and therefore less people and my one store is also Waitrose, (there are also different shops available). @dj_paultuk70524 жыл бұрын
That is NOT going to increase airflow into the engine by 30%. Sorry but they are having you on there. At best it will be 5% improvement over a paper filter, with maybe 1 or 2bhp max improvement. Dont forget to wash it every 6000 miles also. Oh and take it out before you put it in for its dealer service. Otherwise they will void your engine warranty.
@dj_paultuk70524 жыл бұрын
One of the guys on the A class forums had his A45 engine warranty made void just by an air filter. So i take mine out just before every service and put the paper one back in. I do not notice any power improvement what so ever. But you do get a little more induction noise that is normally silenced by the paper filter.

It's a shame they only have roof bars specced on the 19-20MY. You mentioned in your other video that you can carry your bike inside the car (although in my case, it's a 29er large enduro bike), have you investigated as to whether the rear subframe can take the OEM Mini Cycle Carrier? The only reason I ask is that the missus has an R60 Clubman Cooper D, and all you need to do is whip off the 2 plastic tabs on the towbar eyelets, slide in the carrier and torque it up and then connect the 7 pin light bar onto the included wiring loom. Does the clubman have this feature (even if it means having to retrofit a 7 pin connection) because it will elevate the JCW Clubman to being my next car - I'm mostly going to be using it for b road bruising and shuttling bikes in and around Forest of Dean, Wales and occasionally jaunts into the Cotswolds. Cheers for your feedback though! +1 sub (I was also watching your Macan videos, since a used Macan is also in contention - AWD (because I always end up parking in a boggy field/layby) and sporty handling and 350 litre+ boot space are my key requirements)
@PetrolPed4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. Actually done a video on carrying bikes for next Friday. But with the roof rails and bars. Didn’t know about rear mounted carrier. Will look into it 👍
@Titot1824 жыл бұрын
@@PetrolPed - I've been trying to dig around the forums to see if the F54 came specc'd with the cycle carry prep. Certainly on the R60, if you remove the circular tabs, it should reveal threads on the subframe for you to mount the cycle carrier. However, this is often done in unison with the 7 pin light bar connector - I'm presuming that there's nothing in and around the rear diffuser/exhaust assembly for this? Otherwise, you may be in luck! I'm really keen on the clubman, but if there isn't a practical way of accommodating this, I might have to consider the F60 JCW instead since I know my thule roof bars will fit onto the open rails of the countryman; also content with the R60's handling, so I can only imagine the F60 JCW would be more precise/engaging. Looking forward to seeing that vid of your load lugging!

if it's like my BMW the screws actually don't come out the top cover unless you screw them out as they are retained in place, when you unscrew them they go loose when they are out of the lower part of the box then they go tight again when you try and unscrew them out of the upper part.
@David-bl1bt4 жыл бұрын
Ditto, I did the same on a 3 litre V6 Capri. Unfortunately the engine was running as the screw disappeared into the carbs. Major panic .Removed the manifold between the 'V' to look for it... hey presto water flooded out into the valve ports! Failed to realise it had waterways in it doh! Didn't know which side of the 'V' it went.... So eeny meeny time. Obviously I chose the wrong bank as no screw to be seen, so both heads had to come off. So... head gasket x2, water manifold gasket, carburettor gasket required before reassembly.. .Late Sunday by now so no chance! Had to get public transport to work all the following week whilst waiting for the parts. Took the whole of the following weekend to reassemble, refill with water & antifreeze and sort out the air lock. After all this, the screw was nowhere to be seen. Very baffling....until I reversed the car out of the garage...where it was observed lying on the floor 😮😥😖😠🥴. Either it didn't fall into the engine in the first place, or it was flushed out of the manifold in the torrent of coolant. So... never underestimate a 20 minute job!

You should never be afraid of trying to do things yourself, I was changing 2.0 litre pinto engines for mates when I was as young as 15 years old using just a rope around my neck and standing on the strut tops, probably explains why I've had 6 major ops on my lower back and neck and over 30 minor procedures under sedation lol. I can't moan about it now. Thought I was invincible at that age. I have fitted an ITG race filter in my R53 and it did make some improvement, but the MSD ignition coil and leads and Iridium Spark plugs are definitely the best gains I've had on my car, and the larger Airtec intercooler! It’s great with me getting my Black Panther so close to you getting Charley Clubman as I’m looking to you as my mentor for easy DIY jobs which won’t affect my warranty. Firstly the belt line and now this. I have asked my husband about opening up the bonnet scoop and he ummed and ahhed about it. He doesn’t seem keen. You say there’s a company does a kit to open up the scoop ?... would you please be able to tell me who so I can look to it for consideration. As I’m so new to my Mini, I’m not aware of all the main companies making Mini modifications & gadgets so I would always be grateful to you name dropping during your videos featuring Charley and Ruby. The last ‘hottish hatch’ I owned was a Peugeot 309GRi back in the 90’s. I had wanted a 309GTi but I couldn’t find a four door at the time I was looking, but I had two children and I never put my kids in the rear of two door cars. The GTi I wanted had the 1.9i engine whereas the GRi had the 1.6i engine usually in the 205GTi. I stripped lots out and put a k&n induction kit w/ cone filter. The induction noise on that was amazing. Back in those days I was a proper petrol head and got most of my stuff from Demon Tweeks although I worked in a motor factors at the time. The Puglet itself was understated with being a GRi... it had the ‘luxury’ features rather than looking like it wanted a race and I removed the ridiculous red badge saying INJECTION as it looked out of place. I had uprated suspension and brakes for it too and my Dad used to take it to the nearby rolling road to be tweaked; he was well into his kit cars although he never had a Caterham like you , although he was very impressed when one effortlessly passed him on his way to work. I planned to do much more with my Puglet but it was a terrible starter. I became quite the expert at bump starting when it was hardly moving. I always had to park in such a way that I had space to roll it. I had everything done several times to try and trace the fault but when taken to the garage for fault finding out of sheer frustration, the Puglet would start EVERY fricking time, so they’d ring me up and say they couldn’t find anything wrong whilst it was ‘behaving’ itself so I’d collect it and drive home... then I’d decide to go out, turn the key and... NOTHING! Aaarrrggghh! Crikey I do waffle on. Sorry 😳 Gena x

You worry me when you go near that car with a tool or knife 😲 reminds me of a serial killer series I used to watch 🤔 .... Dexter . If you appear with black bags I definitely know you’ve got a boat in Chichester harbour for dumping car parts 😉 thanks for sharing

I heard that air filter change can be a scam. KZbinrs (or someone else) have tested diffrent filters and sometimes in some cars the OEM filter is better then "tuning filters" It is better to remove the box and add another filter but that require more job to clean and so on 😊

Torx head bolts, o btw stock paper filters are the best at capturing dirt. Get yourself some decent tool.. Wera are my favourite for screwdriver.

Hi Ped Good laugh on a Friday evening.😂😂 Not sure about your aversion to DIY🤔 Looking back when mortgage rates peaked @ 17% DIY was the only answer for our 400 year old cottage, built an extension in stone, constructed roof frame, then did the slating.(I hate heights!) Still have the Readers Digest DIY books which proved invaluable. You can do anything if you really want to✌️

Changing Air Filters is not always a good idea as a Dyno might discover a loss in power, in addition, if it allows an additional 30% air flow, then it also adds 30% more risk of particles into the combustion and that long term causes damage to the engine - think about this, BMW-MINI spend millions on developing a performance engine, why would they fit it with an unsuitable air filter?

Sad times when replacing the airfilter on my alfa means jacking the car up, taking off the front bumper and removing the under tray 😢
