The first time my plane dropped out of the clouds over Japan...my heart was in my throat, and I nearly wept at the sight of Mt. Fuji! What a simply gorgeous place, Japan! Hope you enjoyed it at least as much as I did. This is a nice car. You make it look fun to drive, too. I imagine the range is WELL over the range of Nissan's first-gen Leaf. Nothing to whinge about here...which is unusual, nowadays! Aloha and continued safe travels to you!

As an owner of a USA version specifically the Evolve + e-4orce which is the 87kw battery pack and as you said this is sufficient power for my city driving. For the regen braking on this particular version it does well but I still miss my full one pedal driving like my LEAF has. One thing I noticed is the brake pedal on the LEAF is firm and my Ariya is a little soft but that didn't have any effect when a large pickup truck ran a red light and I was forced to slam on the brakes stopping what I thought was very short distance avoiding an accident. Americans are such impatient drivers. One thing I also found out one day was that my brake pedal moves towards the floor when I backoff the accelerator pedal and go into regen braking. The more I back off the more it heads to the floor. I read there is some complicated reasons this is happening and the brakes are not being applied, I think.

So, the Nismo isn't really much different from my Platinum+ that I currently have.... I have the "space ship sound" in sport mode, and my hp isn't far off.... you are 100% correct about the tires. I was one of the first 4 Ariya owners in the U.S. having ordered mine and paid cash for it rather than financing. I was certainly the first in the U.S. desert southwest to have one. I got her about 5 months before the dealerships started selling them. Anyway, I love my Ariya and love the power and grip that it has. Thank you for posting a full video about the Ariya. All these "Reviewers" get the bare basic car and rate it compared to an all wheel (dual motor) or high end trim vehicle. Also, the breaking is because the brake pedal starts to engage instantly when the accelerator is at 5% or less pressure.

I own an Ariya Evolve+ E4orce AWD, 429 hp over 389hp is not big enough gain and it is not fast enough to compete with EV6 GT, Ioniq 5N, or Tesla performance anything. The handling improvements of the Nismo should have been made standard on all the Ariya.

Seen more Ariya's on the road lately - looks really nice. Love the 'on it' concentration face at the start of the video. I'm not sure we're missing out by not having the noise. I think the Ionic 5N has changed the game with respect to augmented car sounds.

As an Ioniq 5N owner I can assure you, I'm still not bored by that mental Hyundai. This Ariya Nismo seems like a half-baked cookie to me, I'm sure the Nismo engineers could have done so much more... given a bit more freedom by the accountants/management. P.S.: Those roads look awesome.

we own a standard awd Ioniq 5 (320hp 600nm) and we love that thing, would absolutely love the N. I tend to agree this Ariya isnt really doing anything for the nismo brand, 5 seconds to 60 is about the same as our car which is 100bhp down on power so i do think they could have done more to challenge the likes of the 5N... but that would come at the risk of dethroning their own flagship sports car which is obviously the nissan GTR currently.

If you really want fast home charging there is a company called Point Guard energy that sell home battery backup equipment. They have a DC home vehicle charging module that goes in their battery stack and it's available in 12.5kw and 25kw options. It will supposedly support DC V2X eventually but in NA it doesn't seem like they have any supported vehicles yet and in the EU only some Nio vehicles are listed on their support page. In NA it's point guard energy, in the EU I think it's called Sig Energy.

Hello Peter! now Japan…when you wake up each morning you must have to think where you are! Ths car is a nice EV but needs a set of Brembo’s to get it to slow better…or carbon ceramics. The looks are a tad lumpy and heavy and don’t disguise the weight but the detailing makes it better than the standard car. Clearly it goes well and you enjoyed it for its usability. I think I would go for a EV6GT or the I5N in preference but tests drives of each might give a better perspective. Enjoy Japan….i saw a film of the astonishing IHC hotel in Shanghai Wonderworld….that is place you need to take Tracey…a combined China and Japan Road Trip would be epic driving! Stay safe😃😃😃Richard.

Nice review. I just bought an Ariya Platinum+ AWD and like it so far. However, I have a general question. Since my daily commute is over 70 miles, will it be bad for the battery if I keep charging the car full every time? Or should I just charge it to 80% like other EVs recommend? But Ariya doesn't have the feature to set the charge limit like Tesla.
@PetrolPed2 ай бұрын
The advice to charge to 80% is mainly to optimise charge times when using public rapid chargers. Charge times slow after 80%. I did a video about this you may find useful 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGKlc4GAedOeirMsi=730tGafTIy2sViFN
@David_Polak2 ай бұрын
The battery is at its happiest when it's closest to 50%. As a reference. If you want to charge to 100%, start driving as soon as it reaches that percentage. It doesn't like to stay at high percentages without being used. Hopefully, the car has a preconditioning function/timer, which charges the car to the desired percentage, just before you leave in the morning. But if you don't need all the range, I would charge till a lower percentage. I hope that helps.

I really enjoyed driving the fast leaf and I like the interior of the ariya. One thought though, does more corner speed make it more of a drivers car? I would have gone the other way, skinny tyres, less mass and played with the way the car turns. Less aero lift isn't going to be a big asset when stuck behind Margaret doing 40mph on the commute.

Brakes, yeah - upgrade needed. Acceleration noise? Well I guess that’s part of the sporty aspect isn’t it. Good that these kinds of car can be made, but I feel in UK a NISMO Ariya will have limited appeal, and is probably playing catch-up to the Ioniq5 N; don’t recall any mention of price? Perhaps £10k over 4WD version? And our roads of course! We won’t have such good surfaces that you tested on in Japan; how will that affect ride quality and steering at speed? I’ll watch the UK tests, but I wouldn’t pay the premium over a standard Ariya, just like the Ioniq5.

i suspect nissan probably kept the power down just to keep the car from being better all round than a nissan GTR which is seen as their flagship performance car, i mean the 2024 Nismo GTR is 4x the price, for them to say it handles as good as a GTR and then give it more power than a GTR while being more practical than a GTR... it just might not go down well. At this power it keeps it a firm step down in the order, while a brand like hyundai does not really have flagship petrol performance cars to dethrone unless you count the I20N/I30N but they are generally average new car money so they have no issue with placing the Ioniq 5N on top of the stack.

A little underwhelmed with what Nissan have done to the Ariya. A kind of luke warm makeover. The wife has the FWD version and as keen car man, I was interested to see what Nismo had done to the Ariya but its just a bit 'meh' with red highlights and some nice wheels. To be honest though, this kind of relative mild performance boost does suit the car. The standard Ariya is such a ponderous drive that it seemed to me, to be the last platform you would make a fast car out of. So possibly 430bhp, is a nice way to top off the Ariya model.
@blippie3 ай бұрын
Hyundai has the Ionic 5N and 6N, but don't offer a performance SUV yet. I like it that Nissan come with a less powerful car compared to the 650 hp Ionic which in my opinion would be rediculous in a SUV such as the Ariya. It's still a 100hp more than Cupra Born (more than enough power) & Tavascan VZ and VW offers in their 340pk ID GTX. In the end it's all about the performance. I hope this Ariya Nismo will be priced reasonably and a few grand under the pricetag of the Hyundai 5 and 6N, otherwise it will probably still become a hard seller.

Cost ? Most will be leased so wait 3 years and buy one half price or less. Tyres will not be cheap. Personally I would buy the Hyundai or a used Taycan. Speed in EV's isn't needed as you will eat tyres and get bored of looking like a knob racing people off the lights. Its range we need but they can't get much better than 100 kwh packs due to weight. Smaller pack with faster charging I think is what we need.

We’ve currently got an Ariya, only FWD, 87kw Evolve model. She’s certainly lovely to drive, however I find the seats rather lacking in support on the base (sides are not quite deep enough), so if the Nismo version has the same seats, albeit badges Nismo, then I’d be disappointed that they haven’t considered slightly better side thigh support. The rib side support is OK. I am however coming from a Stelvio Quadrifoglio as a second car and a Focus RS MK3 as a weekend car, so my seat preference is always for more side support on the base and on the rib cage!

Far too expensive lack of proper charge network and insufficient power grid to support full EV change in any case. I am waiting for the hydrogen from ammonia engines that provide hydrogen combustion from a less hazardous (still toxic as a gas but less explosive) and more energy dense pumpable liquid that does not require the extremely expensive high pressure storage.

What I really dont get is when manufacturers go to all the the trouble of spicing up a car's performance and do nothing with the stock brakes. Do they not consider that stopping the car without it ploughing into a hedge or going straight over the top of a roundabout is enough of a performance priority. Whats the point of being thrilled by acceleration and handling, only to be crapping your pants at the first few hard stops. Totally spoils the enjoyment of a car if you have no confidence in the brakes.

Well done not giving it stupid power, a great car that handles and overtakes with easy with good range. I’m on a 2004 build PC because I say every year I’ll get a new one then read up on what is coming next year and think oh that sound great - when I started thinking about a new rig GFX cards were expensive because they had 2GB of onboard ram and ran at X speed, now it’s at 24GB and you really can’t push them enough for them to stutter 😂. Next few years battery tech will march on again and by 2030 be unrecognisable to 2024 just like when we had Nissan leafs doing 89 miles max to a charge in 2012 and scary enough the same car with 120k miles is doing 68 miles and cost buttons to run and wipers and tyres 😂, I do road trips, just did Glasgow to Duxford a few weeks back and always think real world 350 miles without even trying and the cost of the Cars coming down due to battery prices decrease then I’m all in.
