What you needed was the RAC. They use airbag jack and will fit a magical, fits all cars, spare wheel to get you to the tyre place. Then you leave the wheel there for RAC to collect.

I don't know about these later Minis but on the Gen1 a piece of 20mm plywood with a bit of Yoga mat glued to one side on the top the jack allows you to lift the car on the sill. If you position it below the door shut line it will lift both front and rear wheels if you jack high enough. The plywood spreads the load and the yoga mat prevents damage.

Hi Ped Very interesting tale of adversity, but right solution in the end. Your experience does highlight disadvantage with any modern cars - no spare wheel & jack and useless tyre repair kit😬😬 Reminds me of sidewall puncture in France with my 911 Carrera 4 S on a national holiday weekend. Porsche Assistance recovered the car to dealer in Dijon and provided a hire car no charge. It took 7 days to complete tyre replacement, but Porsche insisted that I had to replace both rear tyres, on basis new tyre would have 8mm tread depth and the other rear tyre had depth of 4mm, incompatible on 4 wheel drive. Total cost for two 305/30/R20 Eu970. OUCH😥 No room for spare wheel, foam kit waste of time, answer have a good breakdown service.

Your video highlights the issues with modern cars perfectly regarding tyre problems. That’s why the majority of breakdown call outs these days are tyre related. I agree with the principle of changing 2 tyres on the same axle, but most people would baulk at that. Had many an argument with fleet companies about changing two tyres, when I was doing 40k plus a year before I retired. Fleet companies want tyres to be nearly bald before they change them!! Left my car at a Kwikfit centre for a week once to prove a point. Good video Ped 👍😎

Last Sunday I punctured my Mini Clubman JCW front left. I’ve bought the car new and first time I went to use the repair kit. Opened it up and no compressor for the filler! Next hassle was sourcing the 235/35 19 Run flats, as I needed two, almost impossible to find. Had to go through the dealer who had tyres available got stung $1k for the two with fitting…..:-(

Arch gap be damned I'd be more interested in the ride comfort. The JCW Clubman is pretty stiffly sprung on it's standard sport suspension. Unless you have lovely smooth tarmac you're going to have a rough ride on 30 profile tyres. So glad I went for 18" wheels and adaptive dampers on our Clubman. I don't do track days in it so happy to lose some ultimate track performance in exchange for a car I can still enjoy on our p poor Norfolk back roads. Maybe Mrs PetrolPed damaged the tyre on purpose in the pursuit of a better ride. Thought about that?

I’ve never seen streets as narrow! It’s a wonder the Sorento could fit! My first MINI had something similar happen. It was on 15” wheels and very few people stocked tyres that fitted (back in the day). She had to be carried away on a recovery truck and it took three days to get two tyres fitted. Like you, Pete, I always change them in pairs. I had three more MINIs after that, and kept them on runflats. The less comfortable ride was worth it for the peace of mind.

Replaced the 4 Bridgestone Potenza with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 s (Front 235/35 R19Y and rear 305/30 R19 Y). Because they are different sizes, the car came with compressor and sealant. However because of the ceramic discs, if I had a puncture, don't know what I would do? . These tyres are not Porsche approved for Erica(997) but they are approved for newer 911s. I got between 12,000 and 14,000 miles per set of Bridgestones and I am going to be interested to see what the Michelins do. They are quieter, smoother and grip better in the dry and wet. Interested to see how you find them on the Mini

My Cavalier V6 acquired a set of 17” Italian wheels years back. The wheels were beautiful for their £800 price! No, all Clubmans didn't come with run flat tyres. Only the 18's were run flat, the 19's weren't. That is why you have a compressor and tyre sealant, if you had run flats neither of these would have been supplied. A run flat tyre can be run for around 50 miles at speeds of up to 50mph giving plenty of time to get to a garage. If a run flat has lost pressure you wouldn't even know by looking/touching the tyre. It is ridiculous but manufacturers will go to extreme lengths to save weight!!

Pete, unless you are driving in Switzerland or Germany, the rest of the roads in the world are horrific for low profile tires. Yet car makers keep putting them on huge wheels on performance cars. I recently ditched my BMW 328i convertible for a VW Tiguan SUV. The roads in California are akin to Bangladesh. I had to relent and go with a SUV, which I still hate with a passion. Those roads in town in the video were certainly not designed for large SUVs however. LOL Barely can get by the buildings. New tires still look very low profile, not sure you have any additional safety from puncturing with those new ones?
