Petropavlovsk - Random Battle Monster

The new Soviet T10 Cruiser certainly brings a whole new meaning to the concept of a heavy cruiser. Those 220mm guns can punch through the thickest armor while the ship itself sits impossibly low in the water and is heavily armored. However the poor long range dispersion, lower DPM and poor turning circle help keep it from being completely ridiculous.

WG are going in the same direction with Wows as they with WoT I stopped playing WoT a while back before 2 years and moved to WoWS but now I'm not having much fun anymore. It's not a problem they add non constructed ships with most of them existed only on papers. For example the German BB line had to be stopped at Bismarck because FDG and GK never existed, only on papers. The problem is in balance department because they add more OP ships. WOWS with only constructed ships it will be very boring because of the few ships.

Actually the reduced freeboard only reduces the ships reserve buoyancy. Heavy waves make little difference with all hatches secured. You must be thinking of open boats like a dinghy or a small fishing boat ... or the Vasa. Ships I was on would "submarine" through heavy waves without taking on water. If anything, the lowered freeboard would produce less roll from my experience.

Ludicrous AP, improved pen angles, amazing shell velocity, great accuracy at any *relevant* range, 360 degree turrets, better reload than much worse guns at same tier, good range with ridiculous pen out to max, great concealment, great armour, layered citadel. Russia was not even prepared for this. And what happend at the french coast was at the end a big loose for the allies, if you remember that the german defense line not even was finished. I had the misfortune of sharing the same flank with an enemy triple Petro division in my GK. I had 3 other cruisers with me and they had a Montana. My cruisers evaporated around me and I pretty much single handedly dealt with the Montana. When I was inevitably killed by them I had 2.8 million potential damage, and they had a combined 6 million. 'Strong' i think is an understatement for the Petro.

I would love to see someone in real life make a 8.7 inch gun that can punch through BB armor at normal battle ranges. This gun caliber is designed to defeat cruiser armor in real life. Even the exceptional 12 inch guns on the Alaska with the Super Heavy AP only had the punching power of a 14 inch dreadnought gun. And the KGVs (historically best protected ship) would be able to bounce that gun at long to medium ranges.

I usually check in about once a month to see what's new with WOWS and whether or not this game actually deserves to be reinstalled. In the last year I've seen everything from the Pay2Rico to WeeGee silencing the CCs on upcoming test ships, to fun policing most of the German premiums, the new US BBs look like a joke, and PetroBismol is still a complete floating pile of biased bullshit. At this rate I'm thinking I should cut my losses and try to sell my account to some whale before WeeGee kills the game entirely.

Can we all just see this game as what it is? A retired Soviet admiral's wet dream. How can they take features out of other nations' lines and add them to the already stacked Russian line? It's an all you can eat buffet of broken mechanics. It has all the features that matter when it comes to getting credits and winning. Des Moines has a statistically higher DMP but that doesn't matter when effectively most of the shells are missing or still in the air when you can see them coming from miles away.

What gets me is all the subtle ways that Russian bias gets into the game. For instance the shooting angles, the profile of the ship, the absent superstructure, etc. Things that aren't apparent in the stats but are still key factors to a ship that like all Russian ships get to exploit.

The Petropavlosk is so low in the water cause the ship never got into bodies of water, hence its could be as low as they want it to be and still "float"

I was on the Budyonny when those containers dropped for the unsinkable sam camo. I ended up getting chappy for free from it. But now I’ll have to grind Budyonny a bit to try and grab Petro. But at least that I means I have something lower tier to play in for a bit.

With a freeboard this low, this ship would have been hilariously poor at seakeeping in anything but a calm sea state, oh wait...WoWs doesn't take into account such intricacies. Considering that the Royal Navy, US Navy & German navy had to take into consideration of operation in the Atlantic ocean where storms and rough waves can topple ships in bad sea conditions, this is giving the "paper" Soviet ships way too many advantages with little to no drawbacks.

I now follow the strategy of firing on Russian ships at any range, even if i'm point blank to another nation's ships (secondaries on close until a Russian gets in range). I feel they are the equivalent of 2 tiers higher than shown, so more of a threat. Maybe the dev's would be sent, by Putin, to Siberia if russian ships weren't the best. My 16" BB put 23 hits on a Stalingrad at various angles and ranges and it still wasn't halfway killed ( 9 shell bounces ?), a bunch of over pens and few in between. Again, the game looks good but realism is just not there.

I love how wargamming ignores the fact that layered armor in reality is horrible and bad at protecting the ship. And why historically Russians designed for it was because of their inability to manufacture it. I also like how wargamming ignores the historical poor metallurgy of the Soviets that further made thier designs under protected.

Good points here. For most of the other countries, they've designed fun party pieces for each line. They feel fun and add believable variety. But Soviet ships... it's just a fiction and everyone knows it. I wonder if there is some element of ... the p-word here. Is their government hoping to use WoWs as a recruitment tool for their navy? It really makes me wonder. I know for a fact the USN views it as a way to get Zoomers to carry the torch.

I straight up murdered one in my conqueror. he kept trying to push up and i kept lighting him on fire with 7k salvos then he tried to retreat and my carrier kept kim spotted. he was the first kill of the game.

i think people are exaggerating the strength of this ship, its strong and things should probably be addressed. stealth radar and either nerf the 50mm armor or raise the freeboard. this ship really only does good when shooting broadsides, the HE is ass and long range dispsersion is ass

I have it and it is fine, and is very good at its specific role, but compared to the Moskva or the Nevsky I would put this one at the bottom of the list. Both ships are far more versatile than the Petro, as they both have really good HE (unlike the horrid stuff on the Petro), long lasting radar, AP that punishes cruisers even at range, the ability to play at range due to their dispersion/innate range (especially with Moskva Leg Mod), and Moskva is still the tankiest cruiser at Tier X other than maybe Stalingrad. Petro is really good if you know how to position, as the ship needs to get closer to fully utilize its advantages, cries if a BB angles against it, and you still need to account for your own angling as while it has the best protection of any Soviet CA broadside it isn't something like the Kremlin where you are mostly unpunishable. Petro is a fun ship but I honestly find her contemporaries within the same tech tree to be more comfortable and impactful on a match.

Every time there is a thunderstorm, snowstorm or cyclone the forward turrets should flood and be disabled for the rest of that game. Scharnhorst had that problem with the original bow on sea trials and they had to make the bow higher. A cyclone would sink this physics defying ship every time. Does it take 3 Petros to match the freeboard on a single Vermont??? I just can't imagine why anyone would ever suggest possible Soviet bias from WG...

Freeboard = they should make the game more realistic by making it simply sink in any situation which isn't a calm day in the pacific. I don't know if this was even a paper ship but I'm pretty sure the paper would have had better seaworthiness. It should sink if anyone scores a hit on the water within 5km since the wave would flood the thing.
