Have you considered building your own aquariums? I’ve built two so far, only a five and 15 gallon. I used acrylic from the hardware store and aquarium silicone. If you start with small ones it’s pretty fool proof.

I was able to use a treat trail coupon a couple times for equipment, but I have a hard time supporting them for fish stuff. I’ll grab food for our dog, but the two stores near me (just south of Seattle) always make me sick seeing the condition of their live fish. Half the time their air systems aren’t working and fish are gravely gasping for air at the top, if not already dead. It’s truly a shame. Thanks for the video Bentley!

I learned from you, when I was today years old, that PetSmart kicked Treat Trail off the app. Do you remember when the coupons were for 15, 20, then 25%? That wasn't very long ago, pre-COVID. I'm sure this is simply another example of retailers taking away all the fun stuff in this post-pandemic-recovery world. I do wonder, though, if it was removed because it wasn't accessible to people with disabilities. It wasn't really fair, in my opinion. A fair discount shouldn't be based on a customer's ability to play a game (though I thought the game was fun and played it, even if usually the coupons went to waste because I forgot to use them). At the moment, my pets consist of dogs and a cat, so I shop elsewhere, but I did get some deals on cat supplies at PetSmart yesterday -- the old-fashioned way (cashback and sales). Thank you for the informative video confirming my suspicion that the good ol' days are even deader.

Yeah, safe to assume too many People trying to stack coupons + abuse the system led to its demise. While not flashy or fish related, I used the coupons (every 45 days) for dog food. Which, in the last few years, has gotten so expensive!

@@joeburkhart7871 the abuse was when people would ask the associate to stack all 3 treat trail coupons on one purchase. That was not allowed, but the associate would sometimes override and give it anyways.

So I did the petsmart trick thing and what I have found is that to get that 20% coupon you basically had to not be good at the game but game needed to be good to you. I found that there was functionally no correlation between how long your chain was vs how many points you got for that long chain. It was a product of diminishing returns with no discernable pattern as to how to actually beat it. I won coupon like 4-5 times over the year and used it for things I was otherwise too hesitant to buy. In my view petsmart have screwed the pooch really. They have no competition for petco's 50% off sale and their 50% in rare moments it comes... its umm... ok you have to be really lazy not to want to drive to petco or there was no petco nearby. That being said... what they should have done was allow people who join some sort of membership program reward points that are in alignment with encouraging us to actually go to the store. I have pet perks and every time I go it adds a little more to the thing and then they are like... "would you like to use pet perks bucks" sure... ok you got 3 dollars off. waaaaat... I mean... huh? Ok you know what whatever. And so for longest time I would just say no until one day I have like 30 dollars to buy a plant or a fish that I otherwise would not buy. I used to have a local (not to me) fish store called Nolan's aquarium in Lakeland FL and their point system was awesome. You go in... (I never had coupons nor do I know if they ever had them)... I would spend like $300 and next time I go I always had like 30 to buy extra fish. One year I spent close to $4000 in the store (don't judge) and I had $400 to buy a dc pump, bio balls (that was a fail), A fish tank that I still use. Whatever petsmart does next... I hope its based on skill and not some funky algorythm.

Treat Trail been removed about 1 month ago when the app was updated. That treat trail helped me go to sleep at night.

In the past few months, I've only gotten fish tanks at Petco. I typically get my crickets for my salamanders from Petsmart since they're cheaper than Petco.

Hey Bentley I went to a Greg Sage talk yesterday where he specifically said mulm is not inert and it's bad for your tank/fish even in a planted setting. Is this maybe bc he was talking specifically about the livebearers he breeds, which come from high-flow, very clean waters?

I was just gonna buy a new Fluval filter and saw the games were gone. I know it was an exploit but they could have just revamped it instead of removing it. So now, we will buy online and take business away from local retailers. It is sad to say, but retailers are consistently pushing us to shop online versus get in the car. Sad but what are you gonna do? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ok. I am a new hobbyist and I am eager to learn a bit more in depth into plant types, care and the fundamentals of fresh water fish and plant keeping. Where I live there isn’t any courses available so I thought about learning online. Of course I learn from the great content that you and other hobbyist put out. But there is always a different kind of experience to a school/class type setting. Anyway thanks for replying and please keep up the great content.
