Every time I hear that train whistle and the start of the song, I hear my dad say "TURN IT!! TURN IT!! Hate that @&$# show." It brings a tear.

The unforgettable theme song in TV history
@johnlafleur925111 ай бұрын
It never failed to make me laugh as a child when Kate would snap Uncle Joe's suspender. Fun Fact: Edgar Buchanan, who played Uncle Joe and his wife were both dentists in Oregon. They relocated their practice to Altadena, CA and Edgar joined the Pasadena Playhouse. He began working as an actor in film and the rest is history.

I love looking at this PJ opening, with Billie Jo ( Jeanine Riley) peering over the water tower blinking her eyes, looking pert and amazed when the Hooterville Cannonball comes down the tracks. Of course, with the cast changes came a different feel, although I always loved the Bradley Girls.

interesting to see how much changed on television changed in the seven years between this and 1970...when police dramas like hawaii five-o, the mod squad, and adam 12 dominated the airwaves....

It was drastic for sure! Most studios started what was called the "rural purge" in the early 70's and many shows were cancelled and replaced with shows that had nothing to do with rural life at all, even though a large amount of America was still rural at that time, they felt it was old fashioned and not sensational enough. Green Acres, Petticoat Junction and Beverley Hillbillies were all victims of this.

The only classic shows they have on there anymore are "I Love Lucy", "The Andy Griffith Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "Bonanza" and "Gunsmoke". The rest are either modern classics are new shows. I love "The Andy Griffith Show", but, they show it too much.

Petticoat Junction - still kinda girly and frilly. There are several other petticoats in TV shows, music videos, commercials and films. The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (A Prom Story), Wizards of Waverly Place (Quinceanera), Sonny with a Chance (Promises, Prom-Misses), The Lizzie McGuire Movie, The Princess Diaries (2001), Biology (Girls Aloud), Cinderella (1997), Austin & Ally (Club Owners & Quinceaneras), A Cinderella Story (2004), Little Women (1994), Strawberry Shortcake (Dress Up Days), Sophia Grace & Rosie's Royal Adventure (2014), Littlest Pet Shop (So You Skink You Can Dance - Karina Ivanov's strapless ballerina costume), The Super Mario Bros. Super Show (Princess Peach - puffy sleeved formal gown) and Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale (2010).

It's very rare to see the B/W episodes on TV, as they didn't make it into the syndication package, except for two episodes: "Spur Line to Shady Rest" (the pilot) and "Cannonball Christmas", which were both aired on TV Land many years ago. I wish I got MeTV. Maybe someday, DirecTV will add it.

There's a little hotel, that's dirty as hell, at the junction, Leroy locked the door, until his dealer scored, at the junction! There's Uncle Moe, his I.Q. is kinda low, at the junction! This was NOT the original theme song. I borrowed the first season on dvd from the library. The original theme song was Sittin' on Top of the World sung by Ferlin Husky.

@Celluloidwatcher8 жыл бұрын
I'm going to disagree with you. I remember when the show premiered in 1963 on CBS. It used the same theme song the entire time the program was on for seven years. Maybe the DVD used the Ferlin Husky song to sell the series, but that was different from the original network presentation.
