I was a little boy when this aired. All Christmas shows when you're a small child has a way of warming you heart even the smell of a fresh cut Christmas tree has a way of sending a warm happy feeling through you're very soul. My mother and father are dead but boy does it make a person yearn to go back to a happy care free day. I had very loving hard working parents that made Christmas veery special . These happy tv shows were wonderful setting around watching with you're family. I am happy to be able to watch them again thank you for posting them.

Thanks for putting this on here to see. TV today has so much foul language and it is nice to remember when it was okay to let kids watch whatever was on. When watching these old classic sitcoms Christmas episodes, I often wonder what it was like for the actors to make a traditional Christmas show complete with cold and snow, etc. in Hollywood where it was a balmy 70 degrees and sunny! I mean, it makes US feel all good inside but for them, it must have felt SO fake!
@rotunda5725 күн бұрын
@@retroguy9494 The Cannonball was actually located in the middle of the state, so those RR scenes could have been shot during the winter where there were actual freezing temps. Looking at the steam exhausting from the loco, it was fairly cold there.
@retroguy949424 күн бұрын
@@rotunda57 Well, yes, that's very true. The actual train itself was filmed in Jamestown California and it DOES get cold there in winter. However, was it just the long shots for the train that were filmed on location there? The closeups and scenes inside the rail car could have been filmed on the back lot or on a sound stage with a mock train because a lot of the show was filmed at General Service Studios in Hollywood.

I grew up watching this show, learning the customs of American life in the early 60's ♥ BOY, don't I miss it - even knowing now it was a well-made fantasy.
@jamesw16594 жыл бұрын
It was not a fantasy, it was an idealized version of our lives then. People dressed that way, spoke that way, and behaved with a courtesy that young people today cannot even imagine. Find some pictures of ordinary people from the late 1950s or early 1960s on the street in any city. Notice how well-dressed they were. The average person had a lot more self-respect. People didn't swear out loud in public (well, not much...it wasn't acceptable). Men held doors for women and removed their hats when a lady entered an elevator with them, and they had enough manners to never wear those hats (or any hat) at the table. We have become incredibly sloppy and lazy in our manners toward others.

When I first watched this series on tv in the mid-60s as a lad, it was paired (here on UK television) with another series which our whole family enjoyed: 'My Three Sons' (the *original* series - in black and white (like this one) - in that case, with the character BUB the granfather as the housekeeper). The two - 'Petticoat Junction' and 'My Three Sons' (also available for free viewing here on youtube): these made a nice neat little early evening hour of tv light comedy then. I recommend them both - for 're-watching'.. and perhaps reminiscing?

Ok I’ll admit I am a rank sentimentalist when it comes to Christmas episodes and specials. It’s even more true now since many of my relatives and parents have passed. Christmas is still one of my favorite times of the year, but now it means so much more without a ton of presents. Good TV like this is so hard to find these days. Corporate brains think violence and cussing are the only ways to have television on but it’s not true. You just have to know where to look for the good stuff. As far as this episode of PJ it was a hoot because it shows what happens when certain people twist others arms to get them to change their ways. Homer Bedloe was a meanie, but when his boss said you will, he did. And Uncle Joe never did get it that Norman (Bedloe’s boss) was a higher authority than Homer was. But in the end it was always Kate that saved the day.
