I love the song (Apple in a tree) that Norman Curtis sang at the picnic & then later sang by the girls. Kate saw the good in Norman but Uncle Joe kept calling him a hobo & bad-mouthing Norman. I wonder if it's because Norman Curtis could out-eat Uncle Joe. Maybe Joe was afraid he would run out of food for his own non-stop eating. Kate is such a loving, kind woman to family, friends & other people. But watch out anyone who attacks her hotel, the cannonball or her family. She is a smart, strong-willed woman & very protective of all she loves.... No one is a match to Kate & will never win coming against her. One will think Bedloe would learn that after all his failed attempts at ruining the cannonball & her hotel. Anyway, another great episode.

It IS a cute catchy little tune, isn't it? You forgot one thing. When Kate DID need to step in and protect her family or anyone she loves, she did it like a LADY with class and style. Not at all like todays' hateful foul mouthed women who go on the attack like some rabid animal!
@@Kim-bp1kb I'm glad you like it! LOL Well, in MY state, 'rabid animal' perfectly describes your average karen on the warpath!

Quite a good episode..really enjoyed it..simple, friendly, family oriented. I am actually thinking about modeling Petticoat Junction on my train layout. I saw these shows growing up in WV but somehow I think that they didn’t last that long...early 70s. I’m not sure when they aired...anyone know?

I am just wondering, does anyone know why they keep hiding Uncle Joe's Indian?? Does Kate not like it at all & trying to keep it out of the lobby? Because of his obsession with it? Or with all the trouble he causes for Kate are they hiding it to mess with him, pay him back by hiding it and screwing with his mind? Anyway, I was just wondering as I don't think I ever heard the reason for always hiding it. I like the scene with Kate listening for the train & the girls ran telling her not to do it. I still like how she saw the good in Norman Curtis & the song he sang 'Apple in a tree'.
@retroguy94944 жыл бұрын
Yes I can tell you why. Its really simple. They think its ugly. Its stated in an episode or two. And it makes for a good running gag.
@lindamoklak86194 жыл бұрын
@@retroguy9494 'Thank You' for the reply. As I said, I don't think I ever heard the reason & I was just wondering. I do love Joe's reactions & comments every time he discovers it's been hidden again. Messing with Joe & hiding his Indian is good payback for all the trouble & headaches he causes Kate.
@retroguy94944 жыл бұрын
@@lindamoklak8619 Well, the Indian is one of Uncle Joe's prized possessions and he loved to make up stories about it. But Kate and the girls think its ugly and does not fit in with the décor of the hotel and don't want it around. They want to get rid of it but Uncle Joe won't let them, so they keep hiding it on him instead. Its kind of like Uncle Joe's curse for being a man and having to live with 4 women! LOL! Personally, I don't think the Indian is that bad looking!

Am I the only one that often wondered why all three daughters look so different from one another . One has red hair and a nose that is small and cute. The other ones one blond with still a different shaped nose and a brunette with still a different nose. I guess back then they didn't trouble themselves to find kids that all looked at least similar.

Once again lazy Joe gets out of doing his chores.... All he did was grip & complain about Norman Curtis & about all the food he eats (Joe was probably worried that he wouldn't have any for his own non-stop eating), until Kate said the Norman could work off his room & board...be Joe's helper. However Joe didn't let him be a 'helper', Joe turned him into his own personal slave & do all his chores/work while he just lazed around doing nothing.... Joe is so lazy even in the episode "Last Chance Farm" Joe had 2 women doing all his work. Joe refuses to do anything to help Kate run the hotel unless he thinks he can make money or gain something for his own selfish purpose.

Norman has fallen in love with Kate. "To the loveliest lady I've ever known." "You know Kate, I think these have been the happiest days of my whole life." At the end of the full-length movie when he and Kate are sitting on a bench, he puts his hand on hers, and as Uncle Joe walks by, she looks up at him and he down at her as Norman takes his hand off, signifying shyness at being caught showing his feelings. Was there any idea from the writers of having Norman actually retire here, or as part of the plot where maybe Edgar Buchanon wanted to leave so he would be the new man in the show? The theme of the movie reminds me of many of the Andy Griffith episodes, such as Man in a Hurry. The well-educated city slicker is just passing through, and though he has more money, more education, more everything, slowly starts to realize he's not as happy as these simple folks.

Unfortunately, Archie Bunker is far more important because he shows the ASS of American Society and rubs our face between its cheeks! Petticoat is a sweet fantasy. What America has accomplished in 400 years is, at the least, something we need to change. Not that we're rotten but the eggs have been turning for a long while. Trump and Pence reflect this 'turning " as does their unfortunate BASE!
