At the time, we didnt have the PCB version designed yet! ;) The PCB version is a tad warmer then the handwired though, which seems to have a hair more top end and clarity. I recommend the handwired for studio sessions or dark rigs.

Since it is a preamp, can i use it directly with a guitar power amp?

You can, but the standard PreDrive is designed to be the first pedal in the chain, so a PreAmp for your guitar, like a Studio Microphone preamp is for microphones. Its a bit confusing because amps use the same terminology but it applies a bit different. My background is as a studio engineer so this is basically a high end studio mic preamp re-designed for electric guitar and bass too. Really shines when it is used as the first circuit the guitar plugs into. Cheers! Stephen
