My husband Ron and I really enjoyed your reactions to Episode 3. As a senior (in our late 60's) married (8 yrs) gay couple (33 yrs), we'd like say " Yay and thank you " to the writers and HBO for the representation of an older gay couple in this beautiful and poignant episode.🥲 And thanks for all the positive comments from allies. 😘🏳‍🌈

I was losing my mind over her decision, especially since she will be leaving behind my 1 1/2 year old grandson. @@HooverDyson - Unfortunately, the characters in Brokeback Mountain were never able to live a happy life together. It was a torturous bond, for the both of them, from the beginning to the end. It did a good job of depicting a tragedy, a tragedy that was based on the lovers being gay. This? This was a truly beautiful romance, having nothing to do with the characters being men. That's what makes it a stellar representation of a same sex relationship. Every human deserves to know this type of love and see themselves being depicted in this manner. As a straight cis-gender woman, I was proud to see this type of depiction, and in a sad post-apocalyptic show, nonetheless. “Remember, when you're lost in the darkness.. Look for the light," indeed!

Its so hard to watch this as a gay man of a certain age. its our greatest fear to die alone. to think you'd actually meet another gay person in the apocalypse would be your last chance. @Ajit Adonis Manilal i'm a gay man in my late thirties and am also kind of accepting a life on my own. Everyone is tought that there is "someone for everyone" and that is just not true. I have my issues, and may be too much for anyone to deal with. I'm set in my ways and i do not deal with change very well, which is necessary for a relationship. Compromise is necessary in relationships and i am horrible at it. I am happy with my life and who i am. I know exactly what i like, and if i find someone, great, if not that's ok as well.

Crazy that Joel and Tess were already together in 2010, so they were Bill and Frank's friends for over 13 years of that 20 year timespan. They were pill smugglers in the present day. They might have gotten into it to help get Frank's medication. At the end of the episode, Joel really has no one left in his life except Tommy, and, unexpectedly, Ellie. It's incredible subtext that somehow makes everything EVEN sadder.

This episode could be it's own short film and stand on it's own legs. They really just write every character so well, it feels like we really get to know what people they are even if they are only with us for one episode. I have yet to watch this without crying. Bill and Frank won, they hade undoubtedly the best lives of anyone in this apocalyptic world. They grew old together and shared a love that not everyone in THIS world ever get to even feel.

I was ok until he said, “I’m satisfied.” That’s what we all want. You’re never really stoked to die, unless you are suffering horrible pain and then you’re just excited for the pain to end, not life. But we CAN have a moment of thinking, “Alright. That was good. I had enough and I’m satisfied with what I had.” There’s just such a beautifully complete feeling o that word. Not “grateful,” or “happy,” but “satisfied.” I’d take more if it was on offer, but I can accept that what I had was enough. I love love love that they took the time to show us humans winning a satisfying life in the middle of all this. That’s what the show is really about: humanity. I think it’s pretty obvious that’s what Joel’s journey is going to be. He was very human with Sarah, he lost that when she died to the point that he was able to toss a dead kid on the pyre without flinching, and now he’s got Ellie to look after and can stop just being a vessel surviving. He can reclaim his humanity. This episode succinctly showed that whole journey in one episode. Love it. Also, it does this middle aged hag’s heart so much good to see young LGBTQ people joking about the characters being gay and then getting to see that they actually ARE. I was your age in the 90s and 00s. My friends had Queer as Folk and Will and Grace for mainstream representation. And some overwrought films like Philadelphia or Brokeback Mountain. But the whole gimmick of those types of shows was “This is about them being gay!!!” (And that’s nothing against the shows; they paved the way and did what they could do at the time.) This episode wasn’t about gay people; it was about people. And on top of all that, it was gorgeously done.

The Bill and Frank storyline did not happen in the game, so this ep was just as much of a surprise for us gamers but a very beautiful expansion of this universe. The game is so much sadder for Bill as him and Frank had a fallout and as Bill's helping Joel and Ellie look for a truck they found Frank's dead body. Bill was a much sadder, grumpier and distant person in the game with no happy ending like in the show.

@GL Fer looks like someone either didn't play the game or is just delusional, either by choice or not (i can't tell). not only were there other notes you could pick up around the town heavily hinting towards their relationship, but Bill also just flat out says it. not long after referring to Tess as Joel's "partner" he says Frank was also his "partner", then gets emotional but pushes it back cause of their falling out. the only thing keeping people like you from coming to that conclusion is your unrationalized hatred, and for some reason thinking it's not normal with no real argument to back it up, using religion as a shield to justify your hatred. and if we wanna bring rape into the discussion i can find hundreds of cases of catholic priests committing the act but little to none about gay people :)

No this doesn't happen in the game. The game version is still good. But I much prefer what they did with Frank and Bill in this show. The story was beautiful Also your looks at the "I used to hate the world and was happy everyone died". Middle Aged closeted gay man in 2003 rural America. Who only became himself after the outbreak, and found someone to be open about himself with. His words, to a certain degree, are understandable. He had to live a large majority of his life not being who he truly was

If you think about the timing and their ages, these were two gay men who lived through and survived the aids crisis. Then they lived through and survived the end of the world. Then they found each other, and they found love with each other; and in the end, they got to go on their own terms. As sad as it is, this is not a tragedy, it's a happy story. I'm so glad they expanded on Bill and Frank like this; the game only hinted that they were a couple, but this was beautiful. I was doing ok till I realised their last meal was the same as their first, then I just broke.

I don’t think there was an aids crisis. People are very far from each other, and there is no gay community. out in the wild where there are zombies and there can’t be too many gay people in a safety zone quarantine zone. You need people in close quarters to spread it so I don’t think it happened just like many other things didn’t happen.

Straight dude here. Sometimes get annoyed when attempts at representation get put above script, acting, plot, etc. But not only was this is arguably the best representation of a gay couple, while I don’t know how how crucial this was to the plot of the show, it was absolutely amazing, and actually reminded me of my relationship with my fiancé. I’m a bit of a Bill and she’s a Frank. This is the first time I’ve seen such elements of my relationship in that of a same-sex couple. And that fukkin wrecked me.

I love that this episode subverts expectations. As lgbtq we have been “reading between the lines”, shipping, and fan fictioning queerness to shoehorn representation for DECADES AND DECADES of media. You both do that through the entire commentary up to the kiss. To see characters on screen actually do the thing they NEVER DO in was more then my heart could take. This also wasn’t a “kill your gays” - they died of old age after a full life together on their own terms in the zombie apocalypse. They lived better and more human then anyone on the entire planet for 2 decades. The decision not to show their physical end was as important as any other choice made here. The fact that they used “America’s cartoon man of masculinity” in a dude bro franchise to middle finger the most toxic fans is *chefs kiss* (Served on a golden charger plate and slightly turned for your pleasure)

Bill and Frank separated because of disagreement in surviving methods. Bill didnt own the whole town, just some areas of town and protect it with booby traps. Bill helped us to search for battery for a car in abandoned school and there boss fight which something that worse than clicker. turn out someone else stole the car battery, they escaped to nearest house and found Frank dead body hanged. turn out he got infected and hang himself and left farewell letter to Bill. in that hpuse they also found a working car and battery that stolen from the school. Joel and Bill pushed the car while Eliie in on driver seat trying to starting it while they were being chased by infecteds. They succeed and left Bill for good.

On the flip side though, I'm not one of the game players, but I had heard how Bill was such an epic character in the game. So based on that, this was so far from what I thought we were getting this episode. I was kind of in awe at first from the juxtaposition from the previous two episodes, but I completely got hooked on them. I thought we'd have more time with them so I was really sad when they flashed 10 years forward. I had completely forgotten about how long it had been from the start of the epidemic to now. Bill might have had the purpose of resupplying Joel and Elli in the game (truck, weapons…), but he was arguably even more important for Joel‘s character development: THE GAME - Bill is grumpy, bitter prepper hermit, who hates the world and everybody, and who is unwilling to open up, which has cost him his life partner Frank. He functions as WARNING EXAMPLE for Joel of what he would become, if he‘d follow the same path of „survival alone is enough“. Meeting Bill is the point from which Joel starts opening up to Elli. THE SHOW - Bill is a grumpy, bitter prepper hermit, who hates the world and everybody, but who manages to open up and connect, thanks to his life partner Frank. He functions as a GUIDING EXAMPLE for Joel of what he should become, if he‘d follow his path of „survival is fine, but you also need to live with/for someone“. Meeting Bill is the point from which Joel starts opening up to Elli. Same basic side characters - different story elements and character choices - same eventual influence on the main characters - BRILLIANT!!!

Forget gay romance, this is a great representation of any romance story. It's not in the games, but I'm fine with it. It fits in with the purpose and overall theme of The Last of Us Part 1 perfectly. They won, if you think about it. They lived a normal life in the apocalypse. Love won. They ended it on their terms.

this episode might be one of the most tragically beautiful ive seen of any tv series. what a beautiful story to tell that in the aftermath of such atrocities, at the end of the world, the chances of them running into each other, finding each other like this. to see that even in the midst of horror, this pure love can sprout up. and on top of that, that they 17 years together, and both went out in a beautiful and tragic way, but to be able to fall asleep in each others arms, knowing they lived an incredible life together. im gonna start crying again, omg this episode felt like a movie.

My brother looks so much like Pedro Pascal that all this TLoU content has got me missing him something awful. So I texted him about it the other day, and he said that it's not the first time he's been told that. Apparently he had a girlfriend once that dated him solely because he reminded her so much of Oberyn Martell 🤣

I know so many people are still moronically h0m0ph0bic nowadays and can’t understand why they’d introduced two gay characters into a backstory that has ‘nothing to do with the game” but those same people also fail to understand how even if there was an apocalypse GAY PEOPLE WOULD STILL BE PART OF IT REGARDLESS and not to mention just as much as people complain about homosexual scenes I can do just as much and MORE complaining about boring heterosexual scenes so idk why this episode got so much hate. However, THANK YOU GUYS for being so open as USUAL and to share some more light and personal opinion, I really loved how this episode focused on an emotional love story between two OLDER GAY men which we don not see much depiction of as much as younger generations of LGBTQ+ rep when it comes to television. So, this was a TYPE of divine love story we do not get to see much as. I loved this episode and I’m gonna keep defending it by every thread on my sweater. I even read that Bill was already gay in the game anyways so idk why people are so mad when Ellie even found a GAY P0RN magazine in Bill’s house and took it with her …. Bill was obviously a CLOSETED GAY MAN and even referred to Frank as his “PARTNER” which is also used at times for gay people to refer to their lovers …the show didn’t change anything but ADDED A MORE VIVID storyline to Bill and Frank’s own backstory. Thanks for reacting to it and not being so biased or hateful because truly it’s astonishing how people think we’re supposed to care if they "dropped this show' after ONE episode displaying affection and compassion between two people in an apocalypse for crying out loud. It was a MOVING story of showing how not everything in an apocalypse show has to be so intense ALL THE TIME because there are some people who WILL and HAVE lived their last days only loving each other away from everyone else bc no one else matters at that moment.

I've started my reaction tour for this episode and so far yours is definitely my favourite. You two are so funny and adorable (and thirsty af but I mean who wouldn't with these actors lol). I was so emotional during this episode, fully sobbed and you are the only ones that I've seen that were as invested in this beautiful love story. Love you guys, see you next time 💕

Last of us has good amount of lgbt stuff in it 'specially for the time it was made. That was a big deal for a lot of jerks in the gaming scene, once they did a dlc about Ellie and her gf(they couldn't just ignore it outright). No idea if they will touch on it in the series, but they did refer to her in the first episode. Second game did more of it in a very nice way as well, which made the queerphobes super salty. But this episode was very nice to see a couple that wasn't just there for the trauma, it was about their life together. Probably my favorite adaptation change, so far it's been pretty good, but this one was the best.

I think it’s beautiful that Bill & Frank were able to live a long, fruitful life together free of any of those infected. They were able to die on their own terms peacefully, together in each others arms while so many others didn’t have a choice and were either infected or shot by someone else

Actually loved this little story. Refreshing to see actual gay people that don’t feel like they need to “act gay” or wear a gay T-shirt for all to see. Just being themselves

I think even more important than getting the truck was the note Bill left for Joel. I won't spoil anything for new viewers, but you're definitely going to remember that note later on, and it's incredibly important to Joel's development and his decision to finally accept the full responsibility of bringing Ellie to the Fireflies

This doesn´t happen in the game. We do know that Bill is gay because the game hint it at us with some dialogues and exposition. And we do know Frank existis but he doesn't make an appareance in the game. So they giving this character all this backstory makes me really happy.
