I've got an '03 VTR and paying 800 a year (no mods declared) with one year no claims. Such fun little cars to drive especially around country lanes and backroads. Put a few mods on them and they're an absolute blast! Nice to see you doing reviews of older and cheaper cars like this. 👍🏻

One of my mates used to own a Saxo VTS, very funny memories in that car. The alarm or central locking never worked and I used to break into it very easily and move it around the car park or up the street lol with a few of us pushing. They do rolling burnouts very well in the wet also. Ahhhh childhood

More than happy in my 1993 Peugeot 106 XR 5 door. I'm currently 19yrs old and had it since 17, my insurance is now at 650 (2yr no claims). Having bought it for 400, I've also had the luxury of respraying the roof and bonnet myself (original colours) to fix up the sun-damaged red. True classic, just like a little go-kart.

My first legal car on the road was a 1.1 granny spec 5door saxo forte. Paid £150 for the car and it was such a fun little car to tear about in. I paid a smudge under £1200 for the pleasure of insuring my £150 motor and I was 25 when i finally passed my test (unfortunately was banned from driving from 15 but being young and stupid, continued to drive and get cought until I finally grew up and behaved long enough to actually get off my ban and drive legally) I was shocked at how much it cost me at 25 to insure a saxo but the 106 and saxo's were so good to drive, it was worth paying instead of finding a boring, cheaper car. Mine was modified with filler in the arches and masking tape holding bits to the car, it looked a a mess but flew through 2 mot's and never missed a beat in all the time I owned it, regardless of how much abuse I threw at it :). Loving the variety of content, keep up the good work :) 👍 😃

Brings back memories of my dad's peugeot 106. was a 1.5 diesel naturally aspirated, silver, 5 door. My dad says it was little in power but thinking about it diesels nowadays are turbocharged. feels funny as my current car is a peugeot 107, the replacement to the 106. My dad had a bit of work done to it the biggest one being a gearbox change and clutch. ive forgotten the issues he'd had but it put him off french cars. the reason he let me get the peugeot 107 is because it has a toyota engine

I live on the island and have owned 3 of these Frenchies - I paid £1500 insurance for a 1.1 106 when I was 19 so £1300 for a 1.4 at 17 is unbelievable! My Furio was doing 52mpg average so yes, it's doable - was seeing less from my 1.1 spi which only did 38mpg average. All three are scrapped now though - 2 from head gasket failure and 1 was a write off from a dented wing.. Very common problems are the head gasket, driveshafts, and rust!! I've moved on to a Ford now though - it's a whole different scene.

I have a 2001 ford KA 1.3 as my first car, unfortunately, but the car was free and insurance is £1100 blackbox. A good friend used to have a nice pug 106 1.1, he paid around £1800 with no blackbox, even the 1.1 was bloody rapid for a first car, much quicker off the mark and around the bends than a 1.4 mini one. One day pug 106's will be so nostalgic and worth a good few ££££

would have liked one of these or a saxo as a first car tbh i can remember being abou 10 and seeing them racing around cannock. Instead I had my mom's old 1.5dci 65 clio it's by no means fast and will get left behind by almost any modern car but when you get the chance to thrash it down a clear open B road it suddenly becomes such a fun car to drive.

Had the car for 3 and a half years before it failed the mot and was gona cost to much to put right, but I absolutely loved the car to bits. Always would have loved to have a quicksilver, xs, rallye or gti one with a bit more power. Always regretted selling my one off and not fixing it up and putting it through the mot.... even half tempted to buy one again for a cheap run around.... if it wasnt for your knees being the only crumple zone....

Quite funny as I've actually been looking at one of these for my next car. 90s hatches are proper fun, would prefer the Rallye but that's a difference price category ;)

For little economy hatchback, secondary town car, better than a Saxo? I have to say I see much more Saxos around

first car was a quiksilver, went in to a wall a couple of weeks after owning it, still kept it, eventually the water coming in to the passenger footwell got to me.

Nice video Jamie! Not sure on the 106 as a first car, my brother had one as his first car and he wrote it off. Not the cars fault but it wasn't a fast crash and the car didn't fair too well :/

Hi Jamie I had a 106 at 17, I paid £800 for the year with mods declared, no black box, mine had a remap so produced 90bhp and 92 torques, they were terrible for the pedals being too close and the boots weren't that big

IceFIsh the 1.2 tce is a baby beast. Here in italy we have a man with a t03 under the bonnet and he's making about 160/170 hp. Faster than a clio rs 197!

My opinion on Saxos and 106s is DO NOT BUY AN OLDER DIESEL 106!! (ones without power steering, electric windows and a rev counter) I had one briefly as a cheap runaround so I could save up to buy something better but it ended up costing me more money because it went wrong all the time. The head gasket went after it had just been done and the wheel baring kept going after it had been done multiple times. My best mate also had one and the clutch cable went as well as it have other problems of which there were so many I can't remember. If you are going to buy a diesel 106, buy the later models as they seem to be okay. My best mate bought one from a scrapyard a few years ago and it's never let him down and he goes up and down the country in it. As for Saxo's, my VTR was a good little car and was surprisingly reliable despite all the horror stories. I used to go all over the country in it and it never let me down. I only things I didn't like about it really was how cheaply made it was and how uncomfortable the seats were

Got a 1.1 Saxo and it costs £2150 to insure without a box, done 10,000 miles in two months and hasn't broke down. Yet.

My mate had a 106 quicksilver back in the day at uni, was awesome! Still got my VTR after owning for 7+ years I can't bring myself to sell it even though I'm running a 172. You can't beat a cheap French hot hatch for shits and giggles, though they are flimsy and unreliable as fuck.
