In this video I head to Blyton Park to test a car on ‪@CamberandCombustion‬'s trackday. The car I turned up to drive was not available, but fortunately some trusting folk handed me to the keys to some other whips.

Loved my GTi6, I had a few 306s back in the day and the lighter 1.8 alloy block XS was a nicer handling thing with less weight over the front axle, but it had only a lowly 112bhp, it was all about maintaining momentum. I remember refurbishing a GTi6 rear axle in the kitchen of our first rented home, the Mrs put up with me doing that which turned out to be a solid foundation for marriage! 😂

@@dannyDC2Definitely. A 6 speed box in a hatch back then was unheard of. Currently dailying a 306 cab; this makes me want a 6 even more now. Great piloting as ever sir 👊

16's are normally a cheat code for 306's but they are more "fun" on 15's. Solid mounts calm them down alot...

Always wanted to drive one of these cars as I've got a soft spot for em. From what I understand the standard bushes on the rear axle are designed for passive rear steering which is why theyre known for being tail happy so the solid axle on this might have taken that characteristic away.

I had a Xsara VTS with same engine back in the day. Great car and handled really well. Torquey engine to be fair.

Having had 306 Dturbowith some Suspension mods, I find the Lack of Oversteer strange. If anything mine stuck to the road like sh@t to a blanket in the dry and in the wet, it was a Proper Handful😮 I'm guessing geo setup was set to understeer🤷

*Now then Dan! Always enjoy hearing your thoughts on cars like this and the whole 'patreons cars' thing even more so. Have you ever driven a 325ti Compact? I know I'm biased but they're about the best handling of the E46 platform next to the M3. I hear you've been trying some of Bruno's cars at BDS? I know he's a fan of the 325ti as well. Anyway, if you fancy trying one give me the nod and I'll bring it up. Meanwhile, thanks for the uploads. Mark*

Brought back fond memories did this one. I had a gti6 converted 306 xsi totally stripped out, half dash, buckets, harnesses, half cage, coilovers etc etc maybe 20 years ago now. Absolute weapon of a car in its day.

just had a quick look on autotrader for a 306 Gti 6 as it was the first car i seen with a 6 speed box strong money a 1997 with 60k miles for £9,995😮

Hehe I'm in this video, in the boggo stock orange Mini that let off to swap places and have a chase. Had to borrow the girlfriend's car for the day since my engine had lost oil pressure a month earlier. Cool to see footage of it from an outside perspective!

The 306 is the only fwd car that allows you to choose if you want under or oversteer

I had a Nile blue P reg GTI 6 briefly sadly snapped its cambelt, repaired sold it and day of test drive the radiator pissed itself when new owner was about to give me the cash................ repaired the car and they still took it a week later. That car hated me with a passion was driving home after a nightshift over 30 miles commute and went over a pot hole in Edinburgh and the passenger window fell down had to drive home with it down and was about -5 outside dumped car on the street and straight to bed pissing thing. was a flying machine though lol

I had 4 306s (and a 205) back in the day and they wasnt as bad as the 205 for oversteer, that was much snappier. My 1.8 xs was the only one lowered and that didnt step out as much, but when it did it was a bit more sudden. Wish I had got a gti6 but ended up with a diesel civic after my last 306.
