Was a great audience. Clapping after every shot Isn't one of my things, As I expect these pros to make difficult shots routinely, But it was all tastefully done.
@MissBlennerhassett8764 күн бұрын
Snooker commentary is about the least intrusive of any sport you could ever watch, often down to a whisper. It's also one of the most useful. It can be an education having former professionals explaining position and spin and the like, not to mention obscure rules. What was intrusive was the easily-pleased audience who apparently clap at anything.
@stuartleslie542115 күн бұрын
Great to see Neil back in form. When he is on his cue ball control is precision itself, maybe the best in the game. Ronnie once said something to that effect. He is so clean and simple in his positioning he makes the game look easy as Hendry once remarked in commentary. Beautiful to watch.
@Jackaljkljkl3 күн бұрын
The irony is that when he first emerged as a pro, he never even considered break-building beyond the next shot (unless it was right over the pocket, or something). He literally just went for everything and was a potting machine. IIRC from the interview on Hendry's channel, he left the pros, rebuilt his game and came back

Yep. I miss the various camera angles, and the CGI hawk-eye POV representations especially. Chinese paid a lot of money years ago, to ensure these technologies remained China-exclusive. To give their coverage an edge. And it's certainly working, so far.

@maxington2614 күн бұрын
@@formulaic78 I mean, that's a different thing. But it's linked, yeah. Snooker is so popular in China that advertising is at a premium, and they do tend to tastelessly maximise those charges by increasing the advertising on-screen real-estate as you noted the the detriment to the viewing of the actual game. Leading to the big bucks though, which they can spend on things like hawkeye exclusivity. I wonder what the patents are like on the hawkeye tech? Seems reproducible to me - when it was first around the recognition of the ball positions etc. was cutting edge but the advancements in AI over the last few years make this seem more trivial.

The Star tables, with the cloth that they’re using will accept the balls like this. The cushions slide a little more when the cloth is brand new. A few days into a tournament and the result may have been very different. Neil lost cue ball a couple of times, the second last red was being played to the left side pocket, however he underplayed the shot, got a small rub on the red and gave a wry smile at his own fortune. Absolutely my favourite player, may he have an awesome 2025.

Technically the maximum break you can get is 155. If the opposition fouls and snookers you and you are allowed a free ball you can pot a colour instead of a red to start your break which gives you 16 reds not 15. And if that foul is using the black then that means the maximum total score you can get on one trip to the table is 162 which include the 7 points. Now you know
