Mark Selby became the first player to make a 147 in a World Championship final as he knocked in a maximum break against Luca Brecel in the penultimate frame of Sunday night’s session. Selby is the 10th player to make a 147 at the Crucible and it also put him just two frames behind Brecel.

Mark Selby is an unbelievable player. The hate towards him started from 2014 when he beat Ronnie in that WC final. He would ve been loved like no other (except Ronnie O Sullivan ) if he hasn t denied him that title.I m a Ronnie fan,and a huge one, like many many others, and we feel devasted every time he loses. There is a saying..."there are no epic matches without formidable opponents" ,and this is true.Mark Selby is a formidable opponent.Hats off to him and we should give him the respect that he deserves: He s one of the greatest players that play the game.He s the ultimate snooker challenge.I hope he wins it cause if there s one player that should win at least 5 ,it s him.I don t hate u any more ,Mark.I forgive u.

I've been bowled over by some of the Snooker being played over the last fortnight but this was just awesome 😮 Well done Mark and hope you get over the line tomorrow 😊 No offence to Lucca (he's been amazing tbh) but I'd love to see Mark win it again...

Was a brilliant final with both players playing their part. Shelby with a 147 and Luca with the trophy 🎉

Was talking to my dad earlier about Selby. He said that he started off in Willie Thorne’s snooker club. As an aside, he said that Thorne was well known for knocking in maximums for fun. I was surprised. And I’m surprised by this too!

Funnily enough Willie was the person who told mark he wasn’t good enough to play professionally. It was mark’s dad who told him to just go for it. Willie said (possibly quite rightly) that mark didn’t have a natural talent and he would need to put in twice the hours his contempories were to keep up. Willie didn’t however know that mark’s gritty resolve would mean he would do just that, train for the double the hours anyone else was, and establish himself as one of the greats. Big respect to mark’s dad. RIP

Dont know why Selby gets negative press regarding slow play etc , the guy seems a class act, tough as nails and refuses to be beaten , Who says snooker should be played at 100mph , it works for some people , I prefer to see someone top of his trade and this guy is...

I think Luca has blown it .He needed to keep that lead to exert pressure on Selby tomorrow.I fully expect a fully rested Mark Selby to draw level quickly and start the final session with a 3 or 4 frame lead.

I think the opposite - Selby had momentum after his maximum but that means little after Brecel gets a full rest.

Luca is now famous too for his frame streaks in the second half of a match, so they will both try
