The gap has been very stable around 10k since October 25 2018! There is no way both channels can get new subs (real subs), at the same exact rate, for that long.

As Indian people goes first time to Internet everywhere, of course Alphabet Inc wants to gain the users for KZbin and get to know what the Indian people do over the Internet. It is money and this bring a lot of attention to KZbin worldwide. Google wants always know whatever you do online. It is not about who started this, who the fuck cares about it? It is just about business. Of course, KZbin wants to take the money from this situation and the desires of both, PewDiePie and T-Series and keep it alive. It is on news, a lot of people in India and worldwide know about it, etc. Google would be stupid to not take the money from this publisher vs. corporation battle.

Hmm watching this again, it could also just be KZbin really IS controlling the sub gap, but only because they know a lot of Tseries subs are not legitimate. When they’re about to pass, they’re being purged at a rapid rate causing those up and down spikes you saw one time until it was corrected. That would also explain Pewdiepie being passed briefly as the automatic purges happened and then later returned as legitimate. But the consistent up and down does look to be controlled by an algorithm as it looks like instead of purging on a schedule it purged immediately after the gap almost reaches 0 and stays at that 900 until it passes at a natural rate with real subs.

Recommendation frequency is largely based on existing popularity of channels (with exceptions, like that language/geographically based channels are promoted more in their language region per se, which helped out PewDiePie a lot in his early days). Using this kind of self reinforcement in the system gives a power law distribution (roughly) in which the popular get more popular, and at a faster rate, than the less popular. They will push a video from a popular channel no matter what they content or title is. All the right wing numbnuts whining about censorship don't understand that it isn't the KZbin algorithm that censors things. It's when governments request it, e.g. from the Wikipedia article on the topic: "In April 2019, T-Series sought a court order from the Delhi High Court to remove PewDiePie's diss tracks from KZbin. Despite PewDiePie’s statement that these diss tracks were "done in good fun", the court issued a temporary injunction in favour of T-Series on 8 April 2019. The complaint against Kjellberg claimed that his songs were "defamatory, disparaging, insulting, and offensive," and noted that comments on the videos were "abusive, vulgar, and also racist in nature." They also have an awful recommendation system that doesn't understand that when you mark a video as not interesting and even fill out the part where you tell them why (which has a pathetic 2 options only, neither of which is very descriptive) they can't seem to figure out that you might not want to see more recommendations for the very same channel. They won't stop recommending me PewDiePie videos even though I mark every single one as disliked and not interesting. And it's because I watched this channel. "The algorithm," is a glorified correlation finder. It turns out that a lot of ElectroBOOM's watchers also watch PewDiePie, and this of course started as soon as I started watching ElectroBOOM. Once you get how it works you start to understand why you get the recommendations you do and how dumb the system is. E.g. I get recommendations for Forgotten Weapons... and it's because I recently watched Linus Tech Tips and it was the video where he plugged Forgotten Weapons because they have content on his platform (Floatplane). But nah, the algorithm thinks I must be into old weapons now because I watched a tech channel... so dumb. So as you can see, it's not anything insidious, it's not even sophisticated, it's just finding correlations. It's not always obvious to us what the correlation is, but it's always a stupidly simple correlation, always. It can't even distinguish between the super dumb correlations like the examples I gave vs. the ones where there is a shared audience because of a shared video topic.

Update 3/21: T series WON. Today Pewd sub bots were not triggered. T series just sailed through... as of now 30K gap in favour of T series. Thanks to all supporter. LOVE FROM an INDIAN to ALL. Comment as on 3/19: I was the one who posted this theory on social blade. But you the twisted some facts. Its not T series but Pewd fans doing the Sub bots! T series was growing at its normal pace of 120-150pm during 3pm IST time, and pewd was growing at subs 50pm. But when the subgap came below 1K around 4:30 pm, T series gained became 180pm (as indians were exicited to win), but all of sudden Pewd became 180pm too. There was no new video release, no promotion, no live stream at that time. Plan U was executed at 6am CST time to go for the kill... and it helped. T series gained subs and became #1... But human could not comete against bot... pewd sub bots and fans together overcame the gap within minutes. Pewd bots are triggered at 1K gap... it it keeps creating account and subbing to pewd till gap is not lower than 1K. The intresting thing that clearly shows sub bots are used by pewd is, sub bots are active when US is sleeping... it maintains the gap around 1K till US rises. Once gap has increased pewd bot stops, and growth decreases. T series want to be #1, but pewd fans bot is not letting it. If pewd fans can hack printer, creating sub bot is easier than that.

My theory is that people just try to keep the sub gap above 0. The closer it is to 0 the more people get active. This explains why the trend is always oscillating towards the 0 line. I suspect that some Pewdiepie supporters subscribe to T-Series to artificially get the gap closer to 0 to get more people active (making accounts and what not). When it actually does get really close to 0 they can just unsubscribe to T-Series with all their accounts, explaining the weird spikes in T-Series growth at 4:54. When the sub gap grows again, they slowly resubscribe to T-Series.
