Heya Linus, that current spike issue is actually very very easy to fix. A 24v capacitor (you always leave tolerance headroom) across the 12v rail that gate controller occupies will effectively increase the available "spike cushion" for those types of load, which will keep the power supply from panicking when the gate switch is actuated! Please upvote in the hopes they see this before sending it out! :D

Those relay latches have a back current which might kill entire system. Just add a diode in reverse bias accross the power line of relay it will fix it.

Quick fix: add a capacitor to the head mechanism so it doesnt current spike

If he really connected the boost converter after the relay, the capacitors are the problem. The relay is now switching in the empty input caps from the converter that will draw a huge current spike. The converter should be before the relay.

@@smak201 Good point that's what I was thinking as well. I would normally worry a bit about the small continuous current draw of the boost converter but seeing as it's a freakin' gaming PC I don't think it'll make much of a difference XD

@@smak201 You are correct, the boost converter should be feeded with live power from the moment, the computer is turned on. Like any supply, it needs a short moment to regulate the output. But I don't think it will matter much for the power it draws, the moment it gets power. The solenoid or whatever they used, will draw far more current.
