i can imagine whiskey drinkers smelled and drank so much pure alcohol that the smell of it kind of gets filtered out, and then you're left with what other aroma there is. typically if youre gonna smell an alcoholic beverage you sit a couple seconds with your nose in it so that you get used to the sting, and then you smell what it actually has to offer. im guessing Felix smelled the nuances while Marzia smelled the alcohol.

He correctly identified which one had better quality, he just assumed the $700 would obviously be the better whiskey. If he had known that it was a scam and it was made of rice, then he would've definitely gotten the actual one right.
