@RomanoLemm Eli did raise his game playoff time, but THIS was NOT 1 of those times! I hate to use luck as an explanation for anything, but when you get lucky 6 times on the same drive, then thats where I'll use it! He could/should have been picked off on the drive 4 times, the Asante Samuel drop being the closest. And this Tyree play has the luck of him escaping the rush-not 1 of Mannings strengths - and then the improbable catch (do give some credit to Tyree for holding on , but hes not catching that 8 out of 10 times ) If you want to point to Eli raising his game playoff time, Super Bowl 46 is a better example. (and I like both Mannings- both are credits to the game, and are fun to listen to)

I was in a sports book when that play happened. That place literally EXPLODED with cheers. Great memory. Watching the replays here, if Tyree had tried to catch it with just his hands, the defender likely would have knocked it loose. I hadn't realized he was able to get a hand on the ball. Man, im telling you. Growing up as a Pats/Brady fan and HATING the mannings, has made me appreciate the sport and moments like this so much. I get to come back almost 15 years later to watch this moment in pure awe rather than the disgust I felt in the moment. Peyton and Eli were such great players. Also seeing the hits they took and how fast they play even though it looks so slow sometimes. I just really appreciate what the Manning's were and are still able to contribute to this sport. The fact that I have to constantly hang my hat on "yeah but we got two SB's against Brady" whenever I get together with family and friends (who are either Cowboys, Eagles, Packers or 49ers fans) is one of many things that speak to Brady's greatness. As much as I want to deny it, Brady is the GOAT......even though we're 2-0 against him in Super Bowls 😉

I just remember feeling bad for Junior Seau. He was the heart and soul of the chargers for so long. He retired, came back out of retirement to play with the pats and reunite with Rodney Harrison, a Former Charger and fan favorite for his hard hits. For chargers fans, the saving grace of losing the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP game vs the Patriots prior to this game… was that Junior would FINALLY get his ring after 20 years. But in one play…the game changed and it was on nine other than Rodney Harrison himself. It stung because they were great friends. And to make it worse, Junior was the one who decided to stay with the Call in man defense with no coverage over the top on the final TD. Rodney wanted to audible out and Junior…who’s known for going with instincts like Troy Polamalu…decided to stay with the play that coach called. In the End the Chargers lost. The Patriots lost. Rodney Lost. Junior lost. And then we lost Junior (RIP) 😢 and eventually even the Chargers themselves (To La).

Look, Eli's escape was miraculous, and Tyree's catch was unspeakably incredible. Even as a Patriots fan, I deeply appreciated the play in the moment. The determination, the grit--that Giants team was special, and they deserved the win. But the O-line absolutely mugged the Patriots defenders on that play. There are at least four flagrant holding calls; they were actually choking out defenders as they pursued Eli. I get letting the players play in the SB and most people will just call this bellyaching, but that absolutely should have been called back. Just look at 2:13; #60 is actually choking Richard Seymour, #69 manhandles Green from behind, #96 (I think that's Adalius Thomas but not sure) is clearly getting held...in that second, I think the only Pats defender who isn't held is Vrabel (#50). Then look at 2:16. Seymour is getting choked out and facemasked (#93). At 2:19, the same is true for Thomas. It's an amazing play by Eli and Tyree, but as much as people complain about the Tuck Rule--that was a correct interpretation of the rule at the time, even if the rule was BS (I agree that it was). This was a bad no-call on the same order as the non-interference calls against the Saints in recent years.

@@donsolos Of course everyone knows it by helmet catch now because it's been used for 15 years. I just dislike it because it lacks imagination. Most of the time, the sports press likes to use alliteration or irony to coin a new term for a play or drive, and like the Immaculate Reception, it's often a play on words. Hat Trick works in the same vein: in the context of the Super Bowl no one is going to think of hockey any more than Immaculate Reception is going to make anyone think of the Bible.

It was a great play, but the Giants being the only team all season to hold the Patriots to under 20 points was the real difference.

That front 7 was nasty for the giants. They came ready to play and put the team on their backs. Brady got hit all game long

"throws it down field, wide open Tyree who.. Makes the catch!" David Tyree was anything but wide open, I always found that call funny. Harrison was essentially inside of Tyree's body, that's how not open he was.

0:56 Whether it’s sports, music, acting etc... anything that involves structured practice each week. If you completely suck and have the worst practice session ever right before showtime ... you almost always have one of the best performances of your life. It’s practically a universal law of nature

Imagine if Brady finished with 8 SBs, 1 with a brand new team and 1 after a perfect regular season. Eli shut the door on Brady's ascension into another realm of sports deity.
