No one in the current league is going to get it, especially with the current running back environment. It’s going to require a shift in the game, rare talent, and a near-perfect situation. Not only that guys just don't last as long. Gone are the days of RB lasting 8-10+ years with production. You now are amazed if someone lasts 5 years. It's too easy to just replace them with someone new who's gonna give you same amount of yards at a much lower cost.

@@_SayaNara Jim Brown played about 40 less games than Barry, led the league in rushing every season but one, never missed a game and played only 8 seasons ( Barry played 10 ) Both were spectacular but Brown was the pioneer for the rb position. Jim won a championship in 64 and was a runner up his rookie season in 57 and his last season 65... Brown compiled a little over 12 K yards in 8 years , averaged 104 per game and played almost 4 less games per season ( Nfl moved to 14 games in 1960 then 16 game season in 1978 ) Again, no slight to Barry but Brown in my opinion is the GOAT. BTW the NFL wasn't fully segregated and conditions were less favorable ( fields, travel, therapy etc ) . Barry was a beast and 2nd on my all time list.

Unless the NFL has a complete 180 of philosophy pretty much all rushing records are untouchable. Teams don't stick with 1 RB long enough anymore. Soon as production goes down or they're up for a new contract they dump them for fresh legs and when they go to a new team they usually aren't brought in to be the primary back. Then there's just the obvious that teams don't rush anymore. So unless they change that bubble and screen passes count as rushing yards instead of pass these rushing records are safe
@francmittelo6731 Жыл бұрын
Passing yards is one of the most BS stats in all sports. For example, if the QB throws the ball 10 yards in the end zone and WR/TE catches it, then it is 10 passing yards and a TD. But, if the QB throws the ball for 5 yards, and the WR/TE/RB runs another 5 yards for the TD, then it is still 10 passing yards and a TD. If I am wrong, then please correct me. LOL
@MD-px6oe Жыл бұрын
You're right. But just consider how young Manning was when he broke every passing record. Brady had to play into his 40s, as did Drew Brees to break his records. Manning retired at 38 which is insane. Manning and Brady entered the NFL 1 year apart (1998 for Manning, and 1999 for Brady)

The NFL is a passing league. QBs have so much protection nowadays (penalties and fines on defensive players) that defenses can’t get a good hit on them for intimidation anymore. There’s no incentive to run. Smith’s record is safe probably forever, like DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak.

Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record will probably get broken within the next 5-10 years. With the 17 game schedule, anyone who keeps pace for a 2000 yard season for a 16 game schedule will break it as they will have an extra game to do it... Emmitt Smith's rushing yards record, on the other hand, pretty untouchable. I love me some E.D. but the fact that OJ got 2003 yards in one season when they only played 14 during his time in the league tells you just how special he was. With how RBs are valued today & how more offenses are pass heavy I think both (ED & Emmitt) of their records are going to be safe for a very long time. Maybe Dickerson’s record could be touched if a VERY very very special back has a crazy season but if Derrick Henry of all people hasn’t been able to do it when they play 17 games now, it is extremely unlikely.
