I'm not trying to be mean, but you're the first person over the age of 50 I've seen on youtube that knows how to type a regular sentence out without some kind of weird quirk. I don't know what's happened to older people, but so many of them learned new and strange ways to mangle the English language-- some of them you can't even tell what they're trying to say. Perfect grammar, no emojis in sight, and even a whole complete thought. I'm guessing you were taught how to type on a typewriter?

Thanks very much I remember watching PP when it aired in the UK in 1964 I believe,a long time ago,PP has special romantic memories for me ,my first girl lived in a small country town just like PP,it so magical, so different to my home town. It was a very small ancient town with a harbour and Christmas just wonderful with all the quaint shops lit up for the festive season.Like PP everybody knew everyone else so no secrets were safe... It is visited from all over the world. Its great to watch PP again, it's so well done considering it was a new show, professional, unlike the Brit soaps which I cant stand, I never watch any of them. PP is King of all the soaps, a hard act to follow, probably never will be.

@Carolann Cannuli-Denton Sorry no , what little I've seen ( by accident) is all they do is booze, argue, shout and fight one another , I don't call that quality acting or entertainment Peyton Place was so much more refined even in the negative moments with excellent talented actors some of whom became international stars.

I always wondered after the series initial run in primetime why this was never put on the daytime schedule? After all it would have already had a built in fan following. But I guess ABC didn't really have a place on its schedule for it. CBS was already doing extremely well with their soaps. Wonder if NBC ever thought about buying the rights to the show?

This has got to be one of the best drama series. Beautifully written, and beautifully scripted. Funny thing back in the 60s when my mama played it weekly, I was a preteen and it didn't capture my attention like it do now. Back then, the only part I took interest in was about Selena, and with teenage curiosity, about what happened to her, those were the only episodes I remembered. Being snowed in, now, and with my granddaughters very useful Roku TV, I decided to watch a few episodes, to see if it would peak my interest. Right now, I am about at the 200th episode, watching periodically within about a 2week period, and haven't been disappointed by one. And what a pleasant past time it has been. Even the intro music is so comforting, it always put me back in the 60s when I heard my mama playing it, and she's passed on now, so the music is sad yet sweet, to me. I just wanted to take time out to thank all involved, in the making of this series.✌❤🙏

After you posted I looked for her. How strange there is no mention of her anywhere. She joined the cast in year 2 or 3. I wasn't a regular viewer and my memory isn't the best but as I recall Norman put her up in one of his families forgotten buildings. She was pregnant by Ryan O'Neill. From the other side of the tracks and lacked in Peyton Place style grace and manners but a most lovable straight forward girl whose tears were just so compelling. A welcome change from that then tried out show that the stars were leaving. Strangely I don't recall the outcome. I do know she eventually joined a soapbox opera cast.

God, it's hard to believe that this year is the 65th Anniversary of Peyton Place being published. Grace Metalious was the First Chick Lit Author of that genre who didn't go to College. Mary McCarthy (The Group) attended Wellesley and Rona Jaffe (The Best Of Everything) attended Radcliffe (Harvard's Sister School). Patricia Highsmith (The Price Of Salt/Carol) and The Tom Ripley Books, attended Barnard. Either way she was an inspiration to Jacqueline Sussann (Valley Of The Dolls).

I was 10 when this aired and this is not the actual beginning that was first aired. Apparently the edited 1962 Pilot, or a portion, preceded Episode 1 on 9/15/64. I distinctly remember the beginning scene showed a 20’s something brunette enter a building overlooking the park square of the town and enter either a Library or Office, 2nd or 3rd Floor, and look out at the park and street and speak to another woman about the town’s Patriarchy and propensity for backstories; like saying it’s a “Peyton Place” before the term came into use. Maybe that’s why this Episode opens as “the continuing story...”

I attended a public school and girls were required to wear skirts and blouses or dresses. My school was in PA and it got very cold in winter! We often wore pants to walk to school, no riding busses, then changed as soon as we got there. Dress codes were strictly enforced! 😳

After a decades-long awareness, I finally began watching Peyton Place this year. Having already binged through the whole series twice on DVD, I'm set for a third run-through. After the noisy turbulence over the final months of the show, it's always striking to return to the relative peacefulness of the early episodes, with young people talking dreamily on long summer evenings where you can hear crickets chirping, and all they had to worry about was walking in on one of their parents in an awkward moment. As another commenter mentioned, Dark Shadows also begins with a train en route from New York to a small New England coastal town with someone searching for something from within that just couldn't be found in the big city. Dan Curtis said that this was what came to him in a dream one night, and that's how Dark Shadows began. It could be that the opening from episode 1 of Peyton Place subconsciously melded into, or even served as the basis of, that dream. Did anyone else notice the blooper from 17:22 to 17:25, when Rodney is driving Allison home at excessive speed? At 17:25 you can clearly see that Ryan O'Neal is in the passenger seat, in a white dress shirt, with an apparent (unseen) stunt driver at the wheel, in a scene that was obviously filmed separately. But, of course, in 1964 people didn't have stop and rewind capabilities on their TV sets. :)

The show was very addicting the more you watched the more addictive it was. But watching it now the acting was not that good and the story line was pretty predictable

Definately a blast from the past!I'm sure this programme arrived in Britain in the 1970s and the later episodes were in colour.
