Hello! Thank you very much for your videos, they are very helpful. I bought pfaff expression 710 recently and this is my first modern sewing machine. I have a question about starting sewing after threading (main thread and bobbin): I used to work with old machines only and there was a need to have both threads (main and bobbin) on the needle plate before starting the sewing. On my previous sewing machine (Elna) I pulled the bobbin thread up by using a Handwheel. Here is my question regarding my new pfaff expression 710: Do I correctly understand, that I do not need to pull the bobbin thread up through the needle plate? That means: - I do not use a Handwheel to pull the bobbin thread up through the needle plate, - I can see only the main thread on the needle plate and I just start sewing. Does this logic correct? Thank you in advance! Regards Kristina

As I said in my video, you can start sewing without pulling up your bobbin thread. Also, after you use the thread cut button you will not see the bobbin thread, but you can just start sewing anyway. However, if you do want to pull up the bobbin thread before starting to sew, simply hold the top thread at an upward angle and push the needle up/down button twice the pull up the bobbin thread. I've watched this and other videos SEVERAL times. I am not a sewing newbie. I have three other machines and plenty of muscle memory. But I cannot thread this machine correctly. The top stitch comes out looking like dash, dot, dash, dot, etc. The back of the stitch is perfect. I am baffled.

Sounds like all you need is a simple tension adjustment. If your back looks perfect and you have a straight line on top, the knots formed are being pulled to the top and your top tension is to tight. When you have a stitch selected, you have three adjustments on the screen. from left to right, those are Stitch Width, Stitch Length, and Tension Adjustment. Use the minus button on the tension adjustment (far right option of the three) until it looks even on both sides. If adjusting that doesn't work, you may need to clean out your tension discs or tighten your bobbin case tension. Let me know if you need further assistance. Hope this Helps!

@@MontavillaSewing I'm sorry for being such a nuisance. But the Pfaff Expression 710 does not have a tension adjustment. The word 'tension' cannot be found in the index of the sewing manual because, I assume, that the IDT technology is supposed to overcome the need for manual adjustment. For some context: my first instance of using the machine was to sew a 9-patch block. That is when I discovered that the straight stitch is flawed. Understandably, my enthusiasm for my project has cooled. And I am so angry about that. I have obsessively gone over this issue in my mind to the point that it has interfered with sleep! I consider going back to my dealer as a humiliating prospect, like I am so stupid I can't thread a machine. All I want is a friggin' quarter-inch straight seam. That's all. Basic. Sheesh.

Hello again Sharon =) I reached out to one of our technicians who works on these machines just to double check, and I can assure you it does have a tension adjustment. The only other thing I would check on top of what I stated previously is that your bobbin is in the bobbin case tension spring. When you put you bobbin thread in make sure you hold onto the bobbin once it is in the case to prevent it from spinning and pull the thread to the left (clockwise) following the arrows in your bobbin case area to thread it into the spring. Here is the video showing how to adjust the top tension on your machine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmnUh4uhhMecq5Y The explanation is at the 6:40 mark.

Hi, super useful! Question for you, I’m sewing mostly clothes (99%) and looking to upgrade my machine. What’s the difference between the sewing and quilting versions? Which one would you recommend?
@MontavillaSewing Жыл бұрын
usually "quilting" machines have a larger throat space and come with more accessories, although it is worth noting that most machines can make a quilt, and the term quilting machine typically refers to machines that are more suited for quilting. the other version of a quilting machine would be a long arm machine, which is designed to do the actual step called quilting where three layers are bound together by decorative straight stitching. for garment sewing I would keep an eye out for machine with an intergrated dual feed system, and a mid sized throat space at the very least. the Bernette b77 is a great price point for it's features. I would also look at the pfaff ambition line of machines for something a little more compact but very capable.

When do you use the vertical spool holder vs horizontal?
@MontavillaSewing2 жыл бұрын
The vertical spool pin is mainly for twin needle sewing when you have two spools of thread. You use the horizontal spool pin for most regular sewing.
