5 Mistakes I made on the 'Dome of the Rock'! (#19)

Mueza Mueza, a Muslim commentator pointed out 5 Glaring Mistakes I made concerning the 'Dome of the Rock' video I put up. I've never been SO embarrassed.
1) He believed that I said that Abd al-Malik was the 2nd in the Umayyad line, but I really said that he was the 2nd in the Marwanid line. I also didn’t say that he created Muhammad, in fact I’m not even sure he wasreferring to Muhammad in his inscriptions. The prophet Muhammad we know today came along much later, in the 8th and 9th centuries.
2) Mueza Mueza thought that I believed Abd al-Malik created all 114 Surahs of the Qur'an, but I don't believe that at all. The fact that Muslims still can't even find 96% of the Qur'an by 721 AD, and that the 63 fragments they put forward for that time either haven't been studied, or are dated earlier, or there is mere speculation of their dates.
3) Mueza Mueza is correct in suggesting that the inscriptions on the Dome of the Rock are a reflection of Monophysite Christianity and other 7th century Christian sects debating on the nature of Jesus Christ. What Mueza Mueza forgets to mention is that while these make sense in a late 7th century environment, in that area, the notion that the Dome was built to commemorate Muhammad ascending the 7 heavens (known as the Mi'raj) do not, since there is nothing written about that event on any of those earlier inner ambulatory inscriptions.
4) Mueza Mueza assumed that I didn't know my Arabic scripts, attributing the script used on the inner ambulatory inscriptions to the Thuluth script, which was introduced by the Ottomans in the 15th century. He is correct, the Thuluth script is from the 15th century, but it has curved and oblique lines, unlike the Kufic script used on the inner ambulatories, which has straight and angular lines. He was confusing the outer 1876 AD inscriptions on the Dome, which do use the Thuluth script.
5) Mueza Mueza couldn't believe that the invading Crusaders would permit the inscriptions attacking Jesus Christ to remain in tact on the Dome of the Rock after they invaded in 1099 AD. But he is confusing the way Muslims act with how Christians act. Unlike Muslims, most (not all), Christian conquerors retained in tact what was already there, so that most scholars today believe the inner inscriptions are the original ones.
Therefore, I do believe I have been absolved of all the supposed Mistakes which were attributed to me. Whew!

Forgiving fragrance, We have the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Codex Sinaiticus both dated either before or during the time when Muhammed was alive. We know what they say and the modern day bibles are based off of them and the Cod x Vaticanus. Unlike with Islam, we don’t burn our manuscripts and have plenty of textual criticism and history to show that the Bible we have today matches what Muhammed would have had in his day. If he could have actually read it. Furthermore, your “Prophet” and Allah revealed in the Koran that no one can change Allah’s words and thus the New Testament and the Torah and the Koran cannot be changed by anyone. So stop falsely claiming that the Bible has been corrupted. Stop outright lying. Lastly, to call Christ just a simple prophet is blasphemy and an insult to Christ himself. Christians hold a Jesus in much high regard than Muslims and give him the worship he is due. He is the way, the truth and the life, and you will not reach heaven or see God except by going through Jesus Christ.

There are definitely still Jews and Gentiles, because only those saved in Christ become a new creation and are now neither Jew nor Gentile (Galatians 3:28-29). I also see modern Israel as not only prophetic but it’s reinstatement as perhaps the most important end times prophetic fulfillment of all, since restored Israel is the key on which all other end times prophecy revolves. Mighty YHWH has ordered their steps home, and will bring this beast system to judgment, and turn His attention on Israel during the 7 years of the tribulation to reconcile them again unto Himself (Daniel 9:24). @@redleaf4902 Your ancestors were obliged to hear Sunday mass in Latin because that was the language of the Western Roman Empire, and there were not sufficient resources to translate it into all the local vernaculars, or into all the shards which arose after the Empire fell. Anyone who received an education sufficient to allow them to read and write, did so in Latin. A Bible in the vernacular would have meant nothing to the vast majority of parishioners, who would have seen *any* form of lettering, vernacular or otherwise, as meaningless blobs. Nobody told people they should not read the Bible. The barriers to reading it were literacy and the extreme scarcity of written material, due to the extreme cost of making parchment or vellum, and the effort involved in copying every single word painstakingly by hand, and in checking and double checking it all, and the shortage of people who were sufficiently educated to undertake that task. All that changed with the invention of the printing press - nothing to do with ideology. Actually, people *were* told they should not read *one* *particular* Bible, but that was because the Tyndale version had a preface which dissed the nobility *and* the king *and* the church, thus antagonizing the entirety of the ruling class in one fell swoop. Obviously none of the ruling class were happy about that, but still you'd be OK if you tore out the preface and just kept the rest i.e. the actual Bible. The idea that there was ever an anti-Bible strand within the Church is a myth. And outside of Islam the idea that all cultures must follow blindly is primarily a modern phenomenon, which has only really taken off in the last few years. Your last point is entirely valid, however, and so I am happy to assume that you would never *knowingly* advance falsehoods, and are not doing so in this case.

Next error is purgatory which is not in the Bible. Next is christening, which is not in the Bible because an infant cannot confess faith nor comprehend. Next error is indulgences, which are unbiblical... Much much more are still in error among the Catholic "church" but it's a long list which is just tedious. @@didierfavre2356 actually, the catholic church was very favorable to native Americans. As a native American myself, not living on a reservation, I'm familiar with much of the story of US indians. The Jesuits, and even orthodox monks, went to great lengths to educate and advance the natives. They created written languages for us, taught us road work, and much more. In fact, they wrote down many of our traditions and religious ideas. Before they were simply oral tradition. There are also a number of indians saints. Even a prophet, black elk, who died in I believe the 1940s, who is yet to be beatified. His story is amazing. It was actually somewhat easy, at times, for the Jesuits to convert indians since much of their theology matched up anyways. Not to be polemical, but it was often the protestant christians who were aggressive towards natives. Really, any church tied to nationalistic or regional ethnicities. Though, there were still some pretty good protestants.

@Forgiving Fragrance According to Christoph Luxenberg's Syro-Aramaic reading of the Koran, "For more than a millennium Aramaic was the lingua franca in the entire Middle Eastern region before being gradually displaced by Arabic beginning in the 7th century." (Page 10) This suggests that Aramaic was the language and culture of Christianize Arabs. Since Arabic was not a written language by this time, its stands to reason that the Koran is a collection of the liturgies and teachings of Christianize Arabs, which was later compiled and redacted to fit the political and religious agenda of early Arab rulers in the 8th -10th century. The Koran is nothing but a plagarized work from Aramaic Christian texts. End of story! JESUS IS LORD

As a very active catholic I have to tell you that most of the things you evoque are myths and no historical facts. If your believe is based on such things your believe is only based on curiosity and not on salvation. My faith is formulated in the creed of the apostles elaborated by the oecumenical councils. Only the magisterium of the church gives the authentic interpretation. THOSE things are relevant for salvation and who doesn't believe cannot be saved. The most important is that Jesus the Son of God has come on earth to save us by his cruxifiction and resurrection. Therefore there must be more than one person in the one and only God. This is also true for the Holy Spirit with Jesus has sent and which guides the Church. There are no other persons in God.

Some pretty simple answers about why the dome of the rock inscriptions were not taken off when the crusaders turned it into a Church: illiteracy. Most people both Christians and muslims were illiterate. Most muslims who may have memorized parts of the quran orally, would not have read that scripture. The only people who would have had actual written qurans would have been imams, who led congretations of muslim worshippers. The same goes for the Christians who re-captured Jerusalem, they would have barely been able to read greek or latin, let alone the new language of arabic that was developing. So it wouldn't matter to them. Only the christian clergy around jerusalem and some of the generals would have been literate (but only in greek and/or latin). Even if people found out what the words meant, the fact that the Dome of the Rock would have been blessed and consecrated by priests and bishops to our Lord would supercede any arabic writings in what makes the place holy for christianity.

Now, back to the context of the video, the question posed by the apologist is why the crusaders would not be bothered by the inscriptions? That's an understandable question and Jay's answer "we are not you" is a really good come back, but is it historically good? Maybe there's another good reason for the inscription to have survived: it's because it references Jesus, not Muhammad, despite being against the trinity, thus it survived, but it's also in Kufic script, so maybe they probably couldn't read it, and when they found someone that could, that someone was a Muslim, so they may have downplayed its significance, or simply lied in the translation.

I have a question: About the Crusader thing, would the crusaders who took Jerusalem have even been able to read the inscriptions on the Dome of the Rock? Could it be that they left the anti-Jesus inscriptions there because none of them could even read what it said?
