Been listening to Lee Ritenour for decades. This performance did not disappoint. Lee must be very proud of his son Wes! His drumming really drew me in. Very creative, physical, and melodic. Great sound!

Because his music are so versatile, from classic to rock, I began to understand and love another genre. Thanks Lee. Also many thanks to digital era, now I can listening to all of his album again after all my Lee's cassette & cd/dvd albums are ruined due to overplay and decayed.

His son has been working on getting over the nerves and manic hitting of the skins for about 5 years now. Lee was able to use great session percussionists until taking on his son. It's taken about 5 years for the kid's drumming to get up to snuff.

I was waiting for my luggage in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl several years ago and there was a group of guys standing around, obviously musicians waiting on their gear. I started idle chitchat with one of them. I asked what band and where they were playing. He said "Lee Ritenour. We are playing at the Hard Rock." At the time I had no idea who he was. Here I am taking to this amazing player and had no clue. He was very kind and didn't seem to mind the chat.

Mr Peter Gontha, sir, please resume leadership of Java Jazz. Your love for and appreciation of jazz has made Java Jazz Festival one of the premier events in the world. Unfortunately your successor, the current management, has not been able to carry on your tradition and legacy; as the result the Festival's quality has diminished. My comment is no reflection on the superb performance herein of Lee Ritenour and his musicians - they were the exception to the otherwise mundane fare at the festival.

He's great, the bass player is too, but did you, by any chance, catch Lee Ritenour's outfit around the 2000s? I had the luck to see him and his "twin-cousin", Larry Carlton, one after the other (naturally touring together) 2 nights in a row at Disney Village Paris around 2001. He had a blond female drummer that was really amazing, at least 1 (or 2) orders of intensity, strength and playfulness above this very good drummer. :)

@@tonytrabort4939 what do you mean?
@johnmaer2 жыл бұрын
@@vicestyle The offspring's drum work isn't as polished and fitting with the music as the percussion technique of so many of Ritenour's drummers he has had with him on stage over the last 35 years. Wes' main claim to musical notoriety is that he shares the first name of the Black octave chord innovator of the 50's who Lee was paying homage to in naming his son after......one Wes Montgomery. I'm not the only commentator about the disappointment in hearing Wes Jr. occupy the drum seat with Ritenour Sr. More to the point, the kid can grow and learn the trade over time, but he's taken the job away from a number of gifted drummers who've played with Lee. What this is often referred to is "nepotism". It runs fast and deep in Hollywood, the sports entertainment industry, etc. Offspring share a name and not much more, but dad bends over backwards to offer charity to the wannabe kid or kids. It's a pathetic part of our culture, but very ingrained. It is the opposite of a meritocracy.....bad values.
