PGF Complete Lawn Fertilizer - Must Use
PGF Complete is the real deal. A greens grade fertilizer stacked with Macros, Micros and Iron. Gives your turf a very extended green-up that just keeps giving. It is one of my top two lawn fertilizers. Every time I come back to it, I just say wow!
There are many comparable products to the ones I'm currently using. Please make your own decision and ONLY apply in accordance with the manufactures instructions and local regulations. You are responsible for what you apply.

@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
Art: I think I'm going to roll with PGF-C the rest of the season. I am doing a fall overseed, so I may substitute one feeding with a starter fert, probably from Yard Mastery if in stock. With that said, I may skip the fall pre-emergent or put it down very late, maybe December. I feel that it stops germination of winter weeds in Jan/Feb when we sometimes get moderate temps in NJ. I know folks say no pre-emergent after seeding but I'll put it down late, same thing I did last year. I may take a break on overseeding next fall, if things are in good shape. Its a lot of work. Thanks for dropping a comment, feel free to share your plan.

@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
According to Andersons you can apply at the bag rate for Bermuda. They recommend 1/2 rate for Centipede and also 3/4 rate for cool season grasses in the summer. I don’t have Bermuda but understand it’s almost indestructible, just keep it watered. If you don’t irrigate you may want to apply at 1/2 rate because your Bermuda could go dormant in drought conditions and probably wouldn’t utilize the N.

@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
PGF-C is a straight up fertilizer. I feel there are benefits to these products over some of the blended big box store ferts. You can use PGF-C all season but would have to do separate distinct apps of weed and insect control if you feel you need. I prefer liquid weed killers, such as Speed Zone for weed control. amzn.to/3OwJOmX You can apply it from a hose end sprayer for blanket coverage (if you have a large weed infestation) or from a pump sprayer for targeted weed control (this is how I currently use it). Same applies to insect control. There are insect specific granular or liquid apps you can utilize. Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer for Lawns (read the label to make sure it targets your insect infestation. amzn.to/3xZiZAP amzn.to/3OMbfZH There are other products for insect "Prevention" such as GrubX but you need to apply at the proper time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4alXqqvqbCSp5o Hope this helps and thanks for watching the video.

Wow! Now, that’s what I call good color!!! I watched another video you did on Yard Mastery’s Double Dark, though. How do you like this blend of PGF compared to the Double Dark? I’ve heard great things about both of them. The most notable difference I see between the two is the recommended intervals between applications. With the PGF, I see it’s recommended that you wait 6 to 8 weeks between apps. With the DD, it’s okay to apply every month. I like the idea of spoon feeding, for more consistent color in my lawn, but if the PGF gives good, consistent color all the way up until the following application, 6 to 8 weeks later, I could definitely live with that. What are your thoughts on that?
@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Victor. I really like the color from PFG Complete and think it provides a longer lasting green. With that said I usually do an app every 5 weeks in season. Admittingly I only tried the YM DD once, will probably give it another shot this season coming, I Love trying different products. Lots of folks "spoon feed" at half the bag rate, applying every 2-3 weeks. So many ways to feed your turf. I don't necessarily do the same thing year to year because I like to see how may turf responds to various products and application rates. With that said, I do find myself coming back to PFG Compete often. Its not cheap but I feel it gives a deep green for a longer period, so maybe its cost effective in comparison. Sorry not a definitive answer for you. Be well and thanks for checking out my vid.

@@PCConditioning Yes it’s fine. If your using a sole crabgrass preventer, product with Zero N, and the also apply PGF-C, product with N. I did just that this season, see two recent videos fro m this season. Other option is you start with a combo product, Scott’s with Halts crabgrass control, doing a single combined app to get things started. You could then run PGF-C as your second N app of the season.

Thank you for this video. Frankly, I just Google search something that would show me the granule size. Do you think the size grade number is about a 100 on this fertilizer? I'm confused about the don't cut the grass or cut the grass or don't collect the clippings or mulch or after putting this product down. Can you go over that again for the simple-minded me? As one who is on and off trained about owning his own golf course the past 15 years, I would pay $10 a bag premium over a big-box brand just so I could know that I'm using a golf course quality. You get what you pay for. I got kind of a no-name brand from an independent garden-center years ago. Granule size was about the size of round peppers that are put in restaurant pepper shakers to be ground. The bag said 26% nitrogen but it just doesn't-maybe I don't have the microbes in the soil-but it appears on this video the 16% nitrogen in this bag does much better than the 26% nitrogen did in the bags I used. It's only been 5 days but I expected a bigger kick out sooner of the 3% anmonical nitrogen.
@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys Жыл бұрын
Michael: Thanks for the comment. I beieve the “SGN” (Size Guide Number) for PGF Complete is 150 (1 to 1.5 mm diameter). I'm not a greens professional and understand there are smalller prills out there. With that said, applications of PGF complete go through a dense turf canopy very easily. I fell that the application is distributed much more evenly than some of the larger prill size brands. My comment about cutting is personal preference since I bag. The prills are small and fertilizer is expensive these days. I'm trying not to suck any of it up which is why I cut first, then apply and irrigate (rain or irrigation) prior to next cut. There may be other comperable brands or better (you may know more than I) but I'm very satisfied with the response and longevity of an application. Let me know how your app went.

@@LawnJourneys Thank you for the quick and more than just 20 words reply. The last oil test I had performed was in August of 2021. 10 years prior to this or so I dumped a ton of gypsum on the lawn to try and break up the clay. The soil test said this was the wrong answer as I have just over 5200 parts per million or 90% calcium in the base saturation. The tester did not test for nitrogen. While he claimed I was low on potassium, the soil test that I had 116 parts-per-million which is ample on the research I've been doing online lately the phosphorous was 87 parts-per-million which tester said was high. Therefore, I've been kind of using specialty not sold and big-box stores or even medium box stores fertilizers. I'm also going a little more organic since I'm only taking care of about 850 square feet. I'm using down-to-earth products such as langbeinite, it's blood meal, and it's humic acid. What does Doc push: Humichar? Bio Char? I might get some of that as well. It's been pretty much a drought since April. I've had to water water water until we finally got to rain in about forty-eight hours ago. I was proven right as the northern and neighbor lawns that dominating mine are now looking a little peaked while I'm starting to get a medium green color. I have some chelated iron spray which I believe I'll throw on there for Father's Day party on Sunday to see if I can get a Chicago White Sox guaranteed rate field dark green. I did buy a $60 pH meter which proves that where I spell extra sulfur and fertilizer that grass is dark green and growing 33% faster than the rest of the lawn which kind of tipped-me-off that I did not have enough nitrogen working. I put some on last weekend and today I sprayed some out of a tank sprayer to try and push it while the weather is below 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I think some of the fertilizer I was using in the spraying was where all the urea nitrogen six-year-old fertilizers probably volatilized out despite my wrapping the bags. That's the only way unless I just didn't put enough product on that I starved the grass. I'll do another soil test this August as I don't apply nitrogen and July and August typically cuz the weather's too hot here in Chicago. If I can get more bass saturation with potassium and I think the Megan needs was 302 parts-per-million so that should be okay push a little zinc and copper or boron to try and get that calcium percentage down to around 80 ppm. I'll probably take me a few years. I'm about five years into trying to drop the soil from 7.5 and I got it down to a 7.2-7.1 and my meter tear last week. Limestone quarries all around me and calcium and the tap water really makes it tough if I don't get any rain water to drop the pH. Talk to you later and continued gmmsuccess with your lawn.

@@LawnJourneys From what I recall reading online as pertains to golf course grounds maintenance: A "150 SGN" is definitely a fairways and maybe a tee-box size granule. I applied nearly 2 weeks ago. There was rain almost immediately after spreading. Actually sprinkling as I put the equipment in the garage. My neighbor stayed with the company and his lawn was treated a month ago and looks AMAZING! I also treated for insects a week ago haven't treated for fungus yet.

Hey Russ , when is the best time to start spring or fall?
@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 10 ай бұрын
No joke literally put PGF-C down today. I’ll probably do one more in November. If you haven’t fed your lawn I’d do the same, now and November (where are you located?). If you have weeds I’d hit it with a liquid lawn safe weed killer. If your in super hot weather and can’t irrigate, then I’d hold up a few weeks, your lawn may be dormant. In any case, anything you start now or this fall will show benefits now and put you ahead next spring.

@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys 2 жыл бұрын
@@rogerhanyip6118 I like to go every 5-6 max. PGF does maintain color long, in my experience. 8 weeks is a bit of a stretch even though the bag says 6-8. It’s a slow release fert so throw it down and watch the color response. If it stays green past 6, then run it out to 8 and re-apply. It’s a great product.

You can but you may do better with a starter fert, higher P and K. Best time to versed cool season lawns is in the fall. Much better success rate. Not saying it won’t work in spring but new grass can suffer in summer heat.

I'm new to law csre. Can I combine milorganite and pgf complete in one application ?
@LawnJourneys
@LawnJourneys Жыл бұрын
Milo is a 6-4-0 PGF is a 16-4-8 If you apply both at the bag rate you’d be applying 22% Nitrogen which could be a little heavy pushing growth. I personally would start the season with PGF and then follow with the Milo in 4-6 weeks. The organic sun the milo will probably have a better impact when the ground is warmer. You can run this combo all year but I’d separate the apps for reasons noted.

How over did you go? Ie. How much do you think you applied per 1000ft2? In any case is a mix of fast and slow release. Watering will help push the fast release through the soil. If you don’t see much yellowing or browning then your probably ok. Also I know some folks will refrain from cutting, longer blades will participate in more photosynthesis wherein growing grass should utilize more nutrients . Let me know how you make out.
