It's wonderful to hear that Alexandrov was THE instrumental coach of hers through her career as a younger elite. I am interested to hear about her training with Luminita Miscenko who I believe was also a fantastic coach through her 1998 "comeback". Her '98 routines were even much more refined and artistic.

In ussr it was quite common to leave babies born sick or with deformities in the hospital, to be sent to an orphanage later. I very much doubt that her parents were motivated by the hope of better life for their baby. In ussr you were just considered less human if you had a disability and not worth the effort.

yes, they had a special needs baby and they just didn't want to deal with her for the rest of their lives.

Exactly, because how can you be an athlete without legs * rolls eyes at them * so sad they could not see their daughters potential. She's amazing.

Wow! She is amazing! Although half way through listening, I really want to hear what it was like to grow up in gymnastics and what happened with her coaches!!!!

I remember the dark times, I couldn't sleep. That time she was on the run I had NO way of knowing if she was ok or not. Today I can send her a FB message (she'll scream at me for breaking the rules) BUT I was just horrified about her.

I'm glad she forgave the old man. She wouldn't be able to function now if she didn't.
