Welcome to Vizcaya’s Orchid Care Workshop featuring the museum’s own orchid specialist, Axel Cahiz.
This class is broken up into four different episodes, each one covering various aspects of orchid care for the four most common types of orchids. These include Vandas, Cattleyas, Dendrobiums and Phalaenopsis.
The final, bonus episode features a recording of a live Q&A with Axel answering troubleshooting questions from viewers.

You are destroying the poor roots. Not acceptable my friend.

As part of cleaning out the old medium, it's normal for some of the weakened or dead roots to come off with it. But as you can see, there are ample healthy roots left after the process is over and the plant remains healthy. It's just part of the process. Axel has more than 25 years of experience working with orchids and his family has been growing and cross-polinating them for decades.
