Phantasy Star III - 'Town' EWI Cover

I really enjoyed the counterpoint in the original version of this track, so I played up the density even more with some spacious sounding patches, delay and reverb. Hope you enjoy the result!
This track uses patches 10, 15, 16, and 21 of the default soundset of the Akai EWI 4000s.

Phantasy Star III was one of my favorite games on my Genesis - in large part due to the soundtrack. Everything in that game had layers and layers, and I loved how the overland theme changed and added parts as more characters joined your party. The Town music though, I'd just fire up the game and sit in town and listen to it. You've done more than re-create a favorite of my childhood, you've improved upon it. Thank you!

Now I need to know. This instrument, is it more akin to a Clarinet or a Recorder flute in terms of handling? Because I've played the recorder flute extensively for years and what you have there looks like amazing fun to use. Would you be willing to guide me in picking an appropriate model? The prices are so all over the place, hard to know what's good and what's not.

@@Aeroprism It's pretty comparable to a lot of wind instruments, while being something unique. The keywork is adjustable, you can make it resemble flute, sax, or other instruments, but it's most flexible in its default mode because there's a billion options for trill fingerings. The mouthpiece is similar to a recorder in shape, but flexible, allowing lip vibrato. I'd recommend watching insaneintherain's introduction to the instrument for a quick overview! I'm using an Akai EWI 4000s, but I recommend looking into the specs of the 5000 to see if it's something you're interested in!

I played these games only briefly, but I did enjoy them. I think this is the best way to hear this town theme, all the layers you added and the patches you chose for the EWI complimented the song perfectly. This was gorgeous :)

Very cool! I love how locked in all your attacks/decays are on the pad. Also really enjoying how you are handling those high notes on the EWI lately! They always come out nice and clear without sounding the least bit harsh, which I understand can be a huge challenge with acoustic instruments.

I really appreciate your feedback :) I think controlling those highs comes down to patch choice and not pushing it - I've got a pretty nice set of patches that come into their own in that register - the same one I used in Secret of the Forest is used in 2 of 8 parts here.

The only city theme song that rivals this is from Final Fantasy 6. You need to do the cover of Kids Run Through The City. In fact, the Final Fantasy 6 songs are a masterpiece.
